Ditherer and Son Prospecting: Turon River Day Trip
The Ditherer and I took a day trip to the Turon River to test out some new modifications the Ditherer had made to the Hogwash
We only had about 4 hours on the river between 6 hour drives. Not a lot of gold in the few hours we were there, but gold is also the time spent with my old dad.

Ditherer and Son Prospecting: Gold prospecting with homemade highbanker at Ophir NSW - June 2013
Просмотров 5 тыс.10 лет назад
This is the footage captured in June 2013 when Ditherer and Son made another trip to Ophir and stayed at Wildwood Cottage. It features a cameo by Don Johnson! and has been edited for the pure fun of it all and for the amusement of small children and men. Ditherer had made a number of changes to the Hogwash and we hadn't yet had a chance to try them out. The Ditherer always manages to complete c...

This edition of The Builds Series looks at the Ditherer's newly constructed Miller Table as well as youtube user Vegetoast's amazing Ophir drone video. Segment 1: The Miller Table Project Here we test out the new miller table and learn about how it performs and how to set it up. We use some leftover cleaned black sands from our last concentrates to test it. We thought we'd got pretty much all o...

    Great video guy's, just letting you know Edward Hargraves was not the person to find the four and half ounces of gold that started the gold rush, it was his friends William and James Tom and John Lister Jr. They found it and Edward Hargraves took the glory. It took the Tom Boys and John Lister Jr 41 years to get that changed to their name. Here's a link with extracts from 1852 Editor of Bathurst Free Press and mining journal....Regards to you both Glenn Brealey trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/60127173?searchTerm=John%20lister%201852&searchLimits=l-australian=y

      Thanks Bip Bop, I can't take the credit for that music though. That section of the video was created by another RUclips user Vegetoast. It just happens to be of the area where the Ditherer and I prospect. Glad you found something of interest anyway. We find fossicking a great way to spend some time together, and it's not so hard that you have to think all the time. Nothing much more strenuous than shovelling dirt. Hope to see you out there having a fossick one day. Good Luck!

    Thank's for itemizing your 'table materials; helpful. At the moment I just use drying and magnet for a large portion of the cons. but the Miller Table looks more efficient for a total job. What a fabulous "toy" those drones are. Thanks for the look-around.

    • @dithererandson2972
      @dithererandson2972 10 лет назад

      The drones are fantastic. I had to have one after seeing that video. I "needed" one so much my wife bought me one for my birthday. Brilliant! Regarding our black sands, there's not so much that's magnetic in the sands we had. Previously we simply exhaustively panned the concentrates. Then suckered the gold up. But this finishing panning took so long, we decided to automate the process once we got it down to just the real heavy materials. Thanks for the comment.

      Thank you very much for the compliment Pete. I try to make the sort of video I would like to watch. I try to be informative and deliberately light hearted as prospecting is just such a wonderful time to enjoy, particularly spending quality time (in my 40's) with my old dad (70). Delighted you enjoyed it.

    Thanks Chris, thats a good point. You're absolutely right. I did go to some lengths to ensure that the water was flowing and the layflat was not completely collapsed, but I did not think of the constricting impact on water flow of a slightly kinked hose. As a result of this message I will insert a couple of 1m lengths of flexible hose in the layflat so they can do the bending and leave the layflat to run in a straight line. Cheers Chris.

  • @48chris13
    @48chris13 11 лет назад

    Great vid. My tip would be to make sure your layflat isn't kinked, at least that way every time you set up your HB you know the waters controlled, too many variables!

    Thanks mate, it's a long way from Norway, but we all share the same addiction to gold. More to come as soon as we can get away again. Because it's over 5 hours from where we live, we really need to plan a few days on-site, so we can't just go out for the day.

    G'day Len, Thanks for the comment. Yes we did pan the tailings coming off the end of the sluice. It was our regular checks of the tailings that showed us that the first sluice wasn't catching all the gold. So we chucked the 2nd sluice in series. I then checked a collection pan from under this 2nd sluice on about 5 occasions over the 3 days and didn't even find one speck. I don't claim the setup was perfect, but good enough. I agree re: rubber flap - Ditherer forgot to bring it!

  • @lenk4108
    @lenk4108 11 лет назад

    Great Vid guys, nothing beats dad and son getting dirty 2gether, loved your show. Did you pan out some of your tailings from bottom sluice? Riffles did not seem to be working to there full capabilities, need to get the eddy happening under them, lots of bubbles running down sluice could be carrying gold out, I use a piece of Tyre tube as a flap just resting on water top of sluice, this really gets rid of those bubbles, also helps gold settle, just a few suggestions, I thought you guys were great
