Another one of the - thankfully very few - Americans who have "I Am As Dumb A The Hole In A Cow's Arse" tattooed on their soul. There are some very clever & very funny comedy produced on both sides of the Atlantic but if I was forced into generalities I would have to say the majority of US comedy is of the "White people dancing - AmIRight?" variety with added "Is everybody ready? Here comes the joke - we are going to superimpose a large arrow to indicate where the joke is just so everyone is clear on it - everybody set? OK, here comes the joke - & we'll be feeding in a laugh track so everyone knows when to start laughing - & 1, 2, 3 GO! "So, White people dancing......"

Phil silvers was so good he could of been British,Trains planes. And moblles,was see no evil hear no evil great films,I spent 3 months. Over there in the colonies ,very friendly. People you yanks but without being rude most Americana are just not as sharp

Ah, yes. The average Brit is definitely funnier than the average American. Or at least we simply use humour more day-to-day so win by that metric. Big part of our culture.

I like some American comedy, I like some British comedy. I dislike some American comedy, I dislike some British comedy. US humour tends to be more obvious and on the nose and British humour more subtle and ironic. However, there's great variation in both so shouldn't generalise.

American stand up , way better than the British.... but the people of the UK win hands down !

American comedy movie humor: Piss, poop, fart and fat people doing said things. Even Germans are funnier then this. Stop comparing, it's not even close dude.

British humour involves irony, sarcasm and satire, all of which requires a level of education that Americans in the usa cannot achieve, which isna shame because British humour is amazing, being loud is not being funny and laughing along with a joke is different than being laughed at for being a moron

Yanks just don't get satire and irony. Whenever they try it it's far too "on the nose" there's never any subtlety. Take "The Boys" for example they try satire but it's all just so spelt out for the audience they don't ask the audience to figure it out for themselves so it just pisses people off.

Increasingly i find american stand up to be nothing more than screaming swear words. Its just not funny. Thats what 5 year olds do to get attention by trying to shock. Exceptions like Jim Gaffigan are smart, sophisticated and genuinely funny. Very few contemporaries are.

In the UK it is seen as somewhat classy to only make one or two series of a comedy. 2x6 episodes is seen generally as the ultimate act of class.

I'm an American and I agree with Rob Delaney. Sorry, Brits have a different sense of humour and it's more spontaneous and less scripted. They are much wittier and quicker to make a joke out of something. I agree that Monty Python ain't that funny, but that was humour from 50 years ago. Have you seen American comedy from 50 years ago? Yeah, it sucks much more than Monty Python does.

the uk office was 2 series, and the uk doesnt do series like the us, so its not really comparable. also, the us office was good and really funny, but 12 series? it was seriously watered down and dragged on and milked.
