Reviving the Riviera: Creating and Installing Floor Pans - A Detailed Look
Very cool partnering with Wyotech! Hopefully that results in having a student intern with you. School only teaches them so much. Project progress looking good, lots of challenges to overcome but, "That's Hodrodding". Curious, how do you keep the bare metal from flash rusting?
@chriszucker7500 I'm excited to even be considered with WyoTech... That school was such a major role in my life and direction for my career. As far as the flash rust goes, I keep the building less than 50% humidity at all times... I found that this helps immensely... I do wipe down the metal from time to time to keep any contaminates off as well... Wax and grease remover... Before I move forward with any type of epoxy primer, I will use a 3-step cleaning process on all the bare Metal... There is more than likely a microscopic level of surface rust on there and this will ensure everything will be neutralized before the next step.
@ibfhotrods Appreciate the feedback. I'm building a new shop and will now pay attention to ensuring I can control the humidity. Dry Coat , from Armor, is a product I've been very happy with. I buy the spray bottle and spray it on bare metal after I degrease it. No oils in this stuff. It washes off easily and it works!
Congrats on the Wyotech partnership! Love seeing the Riviera come so far, glad you didnt keep the old body mounts they would've been an eyesore next to your firewall
@harlansmith4133 thanks buddy!! Maybe some day soon it will finally get some primer and on to body work. Lol
Again, outstanding progress on the riv. Yes so much craftmanship that will be hidden. Nothing better than knowing all the cancer is removed/ treated and replaced w enhanced fabrication.
@user-nm1mr4ir2b Amen to that... This has been quite the labor of love... Same goes for the C10... Really looking forward to finishing up metal work and on to the next stage. 😎👍
Pretty sweet work. 👍 Pretty custom ceiling on the shop. 👍
@@VinoRatRodbuilds thanks buddy!!! The roof took me forever to finish, plus a broken toe. Lol.
Hey Elliot. Where's the gun rack? Lol Seriously, nostalgia and memories are extremely powerful. You helped someone achieve their dream. Have had a similar experience and it was priceless. 🙂
Excellent update on the Riv, Elliot. Well thought out and executed. Am doing same on my '65. You're about a year a head of me. Very helpful. Thanks!
@RandyPeterman-ch9qb thanks so much... Not very many people will take on such a project... I commend you for it and love seeing the emails and update photos. 😎👍
Just curious on your thoughts about this. What made you buy this over the Gravel Rascal, other than price (it’s about $3500)? Back before I bought my tractor I looked at their ATV, UTV, Lawnmower type driveway attachments. Like the rest of their equipment, there was nothing on the internet from an owners perspective about it so research for my needs was nothing more than looking at “their” videos. I’m no on my ABI TR3 that I use with my tractor. Been buying from them since 2020 and I Love them!
@wraith3951 I'm not familiar with the Gravel Rascal until you mentioning it... I spoke with the company, and they never mentioned it at all... I even spoke of using this to do exactly what the gravel rascal does because I own some property and am looking to clear some land with gardens, trails, and whatnot... I'm pretty disappointed that they didn't push me in that direction because I would have bought that instead. That being said, I love this Gravel Grader... Does exactly what I wanted it to do... Every time I use it, my driveway gets better and better, and it looks like i put fresh gravel down every time... Just like the videos I have up on my channel, you can see that my driveway from previous owners was extremely neglected... I pull up more gravel from the hard compact drive each time, and as of now, it has almost completely removed any bare/ area where there was no gravel... Would recommend it over cheaper systems every time... The wireless remote is second to none. 👍
Ive had one for a few years. Ive beat the hell of it and still working good. Just a tip store the unit in a dry location the electronics and the ram dont like the wet. I take the electric box and ram off when im done with it......i broke alot of teeth in the beginning but once i filled all the spots with teeth seemed to have stopped breaking them so often. Replacement teeth are cheap
Excellent video, Elliot. Lots of time designing and making your pans. Have to do this on my '65 but that's are a long ways off. I use Clecos, edge clamps, vise grips and even magnets on my sheet metal. I'm amazed at the condition of the two cross braces given all the rust in the rest of the car. I have to replace mine but I have solid used braces with floor pans still attached. Excellent idea to trim the tabs at the inner rocker.
House wire..... just when you think you've seen everything. Lol
@@RandyPeterman-ch9qb lol.
Hate to break it to you but the grass will actually get worse! I been doing this for years with my grading scraper and it always gets worse. I had a DR gravel grader thingy and the big issue I had with was that it killed the batteries from all of the bouncing it did.
@midcoasttractorservice9182 Thanks for your input... I have been running this over my driveway every couple weeks and it's been doing a great job of keeping the grass at bay... I figure between that and the ground clear it should keep it to a minimum for my application... As for the battery, this is hooked directly to the battery off of the lawn mower... It came with an extension to alligator clip it to the posts... Real simple and no issue there. 👍
I have a 1/4 mile driveway and a dr grader. My Husqvarna mz6128 didn’t have enough power to pull it so I use my tractor and stack 10 solid cinder blocks so it doesn’t bounce around like yours is doing. It’s too hard for a zero turn even if they say it will pull it. Same for a side by side. A tractor is best suited.
@soviet305 this video is of the first time I've ever used it... I had set the teeth at a very aggressive angle and the fact that the drive has been so neglected for years has made the grader bounce so much... Now that I have used this many times, I know what I'm doing and at it accordingly... Putting extra weight on it would be doing more harm than good with the gravel grader... It was engineered with specific angles in place to use leverage and also with the shock system in place this helps as well... It has pretty much come down to use error... Now that I have that figure out it works flawlessly. 😎👍
@midcoasttractorservice9182 this has an extension that I run off of the battery from the zero turn... Pretty quick and easy setup, with no need for an external battery... I haven't had the same issue with grass as you have mentioned... This has kept the regrowth of grass to a minimum and am very happy with the results... A little bit of ground clear and I'm sure mine would be completely resolved... The only thing I can think of is location and type of grass you are dealing with. 😎👍
Great update and thanks for going in depth as to why things need addressed. Rust creats lots of work and generally involves body mounts az well as floorpan patching. Things really grow once digging starts. Kudos on having 3 different projects happening at once!
Thank you so much... I feel like there aren't a lot of people who really know enough about why restorations and customization take so long. These things have to be addressed, or you are just asking for trouble in a year or two. Just the tip of the iceberg. 😎👍💯
@@ibfhotrods You're right, Elliot. Unless you've done it yourself, you really don't know how involved all this is. Great update video. Tell Randy I said Hey. Any guy named Randy has to be a good guy. Lol

What do you think I.B.F. Stands for?
Umm. That is a bit to sweet! That is a beautiful ride! You have me dreaming of my first truck. I have been dreaming of its rebirth for about 30 years. 1975 Dodge Step Side with the wood in the bed. The Frog was a pond hopper and had a 318 with a 4 barrel carb and a 3 on the tree. I broke that shifter off the column 3 times driving like an idiot when I was a kid! Twice it cost me $190 to fix it at 16 years old. # 3 got a hole cut in the floor and the shifter linkage rods rerouted though said hole. Reverse and first on 1 shifter and 2nd and 3rd on the other. One of them always had to be in neutral. The Frog II, needs a 4 on the floor 4x4, pimped out. I can see it. This was good for my Saturday morning.
Thats bitchin!
That's 1 bad ride!!!
Great Comments...build em like ya want...but never forget about customer safety first...thanks
Awesome video! Awesome build! 👍
Incredible metal work on the Rivi, Elliot. You've got skills. 🙂 I'm amazed that the floor cross braces were solid enough to use given how bad the rest of the body was. I received my IBFHotRods T-shirt earlier this week. Thanks! Feels like Christmas in July.

What a horrifying situation for that tire
How many more people aren't going to realize that this is aired out, laid out, on its nuts, in the weeds, it is on air ride and there is no air in the air bags... But hey you keep doing you and continue knowing everything. 😎👍💯 #hatersgonnahate #ignoranceisbliss
@@ibfhotrods I was just feeling bad for that tire.. have to put up with all that horsepower.. poor little tire
Bump steer, look at tie rod angle. IF you know, you k now
If you know you know that it's on air ride... Come on man, really??? #hatersgonnahate #ignoranceisbliss
Ok. Do you know about bump steer when driving, from tie rod angle changing toe? Who said anything about air bags being there or not? Kind of touchy dude? Tell me where knowing about bump steer pissed in your cornflakes. Its still a nice car, youre probaly a niceguy@ibfhotrods but dont b ring up the possible bump steer, you're sensitive about it. If you know you know😂
@trojanyacht2518 you do understand that when lifting the air ride to proper ride height there is no such thing as bump steer. Do you understand that this is laid out and on its nuts.?. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just trying to remove ignorance... Any vehicle laid out or aired out or in the weed or on its nuts will have horrible tie rod angle. ??? #ignoranceisbliss
@@ibfhotrods yes we're on same page. Ride height and parked height aired out - much lower. Cool cruise. Height? Somewhere in between but usually what the road will allow, correct? All we're talking about is then... lowered height and bumps make bump steer. Happens to everybody, not just you, me too if I was driving. Physics being what it is, and geometry causing toe change. I'll see you at a cruise sometime and buy you a beer. Keep smiling, nice car even if it wiggles over bumps sometimes! Enjoy your car
