@@calliopebookage When you read books from the old times, when, it seems, men and women were born to think freely and not to claim it only, there are many things that resonate. What resonates with me the most is how so many people can be wrong without malice involved in it, and wondering whether there really has never been any malice in their fallacious reasoning. It makes me feel, often, that the great bulk of mankind is not ready for intellectual freedom, for they do not seek intellect and understanding. People are trained to perform a task rather than taught why the task can be performed. Those who understand are few, and those who bring understanding fewer still. Based on what I have read, it seems like indeed life is nothing but a progressive force moving forward, carried by the train of accumulated knowledge and skill, yet without serious reflection. The engine is powered by ideas that should have gone out of human minds a long time ago, in fact, many times had gone, only to come back with greater force to haunt present and future generations into quiet despair. We seem to be going forward quickly, and that is enough for everyone. For every useful invention or creation, there are 10 that are not only useless, but also detrimental to both our body, and mind. The soul I dare not even mention. We are, indeed, progressing for the sake of progress itself, which is how a cancer cell operates. Every day, we are convinced that the apps to develop ourselves, our thinking, our life, are the Holy Grail of all knowledge that will lead us to salvation. Yet, for a reason that is so obvious that it defies mention, one can hardly find such reasoning as there was in the old times these days. The aforementioned results in a people that, though seemingly experienced throughout history, are everywhere foolishly convinced, rather than cautiously, or prudently, doubtful. These people forget that the world now moves too fast for contemplation, and the problems that took the greatest minds decades to be properly addressed, seem now to be resolved without contemplation, without thinking, without looking back to those old solutions, in a mere fraction of a second.

Contemplation requires time and stillness, luxuries in an era where speed is worshiped, and certainty is mistaken for clarity. And yet, here we are, pausing together in this small, reflective space. Your comment reminds me that not all is lost, that the few who question, who think, who doubt are still here, quietly seeking meaning amidst the noise. It is a humbling thought that despite the din of our times, the ancient echoes of wisdom can still resonate. @@calliopebookage I believe in the message contained within the books by Tolstoy, i.e. What I Believe (My Religion), and The Kingdom of God is Within You. The latter is an answer to the criticism of the former. He used the method of going through the Bible, and selecting only that which aligns perfectly with the message that he believed he found and is clearly perceptible within, and also corresponds perfectly with the message of other religions. It is the message of love, that of selflessness. Those books were what inspired Gandhi to pursue a non-violent resistance, rather than bloodshed, against the British Empire. The conclusion is simple, it is more love and understanding that we need, and the urgency that is, sadly, only ever present under dire circumstances, and often not even then. What sparked in the mind of an intellectual the necessity of writing Progress and Poverty, did not move the heart of the hungry peasant. It took them a long time to start getting the feeling that something was not right. Good books are forgotten, great books are almost dead. However, we do need those books nonetheless. We desperately need to stop spreading the message of hedonism, and we should rather seek selfless love. If some people require God for that, let them have their God. If some people just believe in love and reason, let them labour under that belief. To state it simply, we have been fooled into believing that we have now peaked. Obviously, there can be no peak where imagination is limitless. We need more philosophy, more love, more freedom, and a general knowledge of history. I do indeed find it rather curious when I listen to people who claim we now have the most freedom. Have they ever analysed the hypothesis for real? Have they ever thought what freedom is? Why have I, then, written love and understanding? Because I am well aware that it is akin to impossible to bring reason into a conversation where a simpleton is involved. However, I have often seen people of little intellect with a lot of love in their heart, and in the end, love always wins anyway. In any given community, less than 1-5 per cent being intellectuals is usually enough to give it an industrial shape. Of course, the more ideas, the better, but again, the kind of love and reason that Jesus prophesized is what we need. We need more leisure, fewer distractions, and a lot more determination and courage from the past centuries. What do we need from this time? Honestly, I might sound a bit harsh, but I am not sure. If I am to be truthful, I feel like we need to keep advancing the sciences, especially healthcare and industries related with that, and we need to keep all the privileges that our ancestors have won for labour, and possibly elaborate on them. The first priority should be to follow natural laws. There are always more people who want to live a decent life than criminals, and even the criminals are the product of a given society's failure more often than not. Therefore, the law of the mind being analogous to that of potential in any other science, be it gravitational potential energy or electric potential energy, we should concentrate on salvaging as much of the human mind's imagination, creativity, ingenuity, and ability as we can. Even more importantly, should one face the executioner, each one would realize the tragedy of every single life lost.
