Conway Cruiser (1996) - erecting the awning
This is how we erect the awning of our 1996 Conway Cruiser, which we are selling. A few bits and pieces have broken (as shown in the video), but it all still works with a little improvisation.

Throught the years I have had 3 campers. Also have now one of these. I always remove the wardrobe, sink and stove and leave them at home. I prefer to cook outside or in the awning. It gives me much more space for other more useful things in side the camper.

I bought this very one. She's still going strong but now with led lighting and mod cons such as mobile phone charging

@@dsberry22 it's really good. Just been to check on her in caravan storage. Still bone dry inside despite being left since September. I've got a full body cover on her but you still expect the worst.

I've added a propex forced air propane heater as well out of a 1980s post office van. Gets really warm inside.

These were very innovative and an attractive alternative to the traditional hard-sided caravan back in the day. However, Conway and Pennine's failure to innovate have now seen the Opus Camper be a far more attractive alternative although both Conway and Pennine had and continue to have an onboard toilet with dedicated 'room' which Opus Camper have not added. That is something they got right in my opinion as trekking across a damp campsite on a cold night in the rain, just to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, is not much fun. Furthermore, Opus have created an off-road version with proper suspension, which opens up possibilities, even though those possibilities will largely remain in the heads of the owners. On top of all that, modern day caravans have not only grown in size to be more comfortable, but are a world apart from the caravans that used to compete with Conway and Pennine when trailer tents were far more popular. Add to that the fact that modern day vehicles are far more powerful and are better tow cars. Perhaps the day of the trailer tent will return when EV ownership far exceeds that of ICE tow cars.

What a great video. I haven’t owned a trailer tent before and need something that can be erected in no more than 15-20 mins. This has shown me that this is not for me, saving me a LOT of research 🙏

With a well trained family assisting, and given lots of experience and a carefully planned procedure, it is just about possible to get the base unit up in about 20 minutes. Not the awning though.

I've found I'm getting to the stage where I can get the base unit pitched and the kettle on inside half an hour doing it on my own if she's been put away with the bed pods and head liner attached so it can be done.

Sadly, Dad is too big to get through the hole into the birdbox. We watched him trying for ages yesterday, with Mrs sitting on a branch a foot away watching him with a "you need to get more exercise" look on her face. When he finally gave up, she just hopped in.
