Beta 20 Impeller replacement
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.2 года назад
I often take photos and video as I work on my boat as a memory aid for when I do the same job again the following season. I thought I’d upload this as it may be of use to others with a similar engine. Please be aware this is for information only and should not be be used in lieu of an instruction manual. If in doubt consult a qualified marine engineer!
Volvo Penta 2002 explanation by DDZ Engineer

Scott from DDZ Largs (Scotland) explains our Volvo Penta 2002 to my wife. (Scott gave permission for this video to be uploaded) this engine has since been removed from the boat and replaced with a Beta 20
Good video. I have the same engine but RWC. Do you or any viewers know if the pencil zinc has both ends threaded or just the plug end? Mine has threads only at the plug end. Seems hard to have to screw into a threaded fitting on the opposite end. One video said to just cut off the far end if too long, nothing about threaded ends. Thanks.
Wonderful explanation. thank you!
You guys still running this engine? I'm trying to locate where the "start/stop" control cable connects to the engine. Trying to bench start same engine and can't figure out the cold start "feature"
Thank you very much for an excellent video
Amazing video. Thank you for taking the time to upload it. I will spend the weekend trying to revive one of these, let's see how it goes!
Anyobody know how to drain and replace the coolant on this bad boy? I’ve got this very model on a beneteau with very poor access. I’m pretty sure I’ve felt the block drain on the bottom left, but for the life of me can’t find the valve. Many thanks to the kind soul who can help this brother out before Canadian winter starts!!!
Very informative, especially the cold starting sequence. Thanks for taking the time making this!
👍 I’m pleased you’ve found it useful.
How old was that diesel?
I understand Volvo stopped making the Penta 2002 circa 1982, so I’m guessing roughly 35-40 years old.
My boat has a VP 2002 and is a boat from 1988
Great video, thank you! I just replaced the impeller on a Beta Marine 14 hp, and there were two "O" rings in the Beta Marine impeller box, but only one is the correct size. Is this just a matter of providing 2 alternative "O" rings, or does the larger "O" ring fit somewhere other than the front of the housing? Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and Happy New Year!
Thanks for your comment Helene, I’m chuffed you’ve found the video useful. I know that the impeller replacement kit for these type of beta engines (207-09041-kit) fits the 10, 14, 16, 20 and 25, but I don’t know if the impeller housing is a standard unit across all of them, so I think you are right (and very happy to be corrected) that the second o ring may be for a different sized impeller housing.. As far as I’m aware there is only one o ring within each impeller housing. All the best and happy new year to you too! David.
Brilliant thanks! The number of times we have manually cranked our engine without flipping that lever up 🙈
Holy Smokes at the yeah/yes! At one point 12 words were spoken and 6 of them were yes/yeah. Quite annoying. Wonderful explanation once I shut the sound off and read the wording. THANKS!
Good afternoon, tell me, what idle speeds should be? Thanks.
Sorry, the engine was sold more than a year ago
About 800rpm
Hi David, can you tell why you removed the motor? ta
Pete, the engine mounts were shot so rather than replacing those we decided to replace the whole engine while we had the time and resources
I have the same engine in my boat and this has been hugely useful, and I’m in Largs 😀
Glad you found it useful Stu, we are at James Watt
I have problem in the same engine...no fuel coming out from tje high pressure pump thru injectors.... Any to recomend to cheak...?
Check that you’ve bled the system properly and you’ve used the lift pump to prime the fuel.
Awesome video well explained 🙂 learned something today
Glad it was helpful!
Well explained. And very well questioned. Well done. Loved it.
Glad you liked it!
Hi - I have a VP2002 in my yacht - motor is raw-water cooled but overall in a similar condition to yours (cosmetically) How many hours did you have on your VP2002? And why did you remove the VP from your boat?
Not sure how many hours it had I'm afraid - the rev counter / hours meter were not working when we bought her
Nice guy - explained things well
Thanks
You couldn't get him to tell her about my Yanmar could you? :-) hehe.....
