A weekly movie and media podcast with a group of nerds. We like drinking, horror, marathons, staircase fetishes and viewers like you.
Hard knocks and hardbacks
It's HERE. At last. Volume 3 of the wonderful Shawscope collection. And it arrived in the same week as a bumper Scala package. So this is a short video, but it's absolutely stuffed with goodness.

This week a pair of films with recording methods used for devious purposes. Harry Caul is the best wiretapper on the West Coast. His skill is almost as widely known as his intense privacy, complete professional detachment, and closed off nature, born from the guilt after a previous job that resulted in the multiple murders. Got some post this week, and I hope some of you lovely people still managed to enjoy the podcast on our blog or RUclips, but Dave is continuing to spend far too much of his time trying to figure out why Google hates us. We are still in many of these places, even while waiting to arrive back in other places - linktr.ee/raidersofthepodcast #bluray #movies #moviecollection #podcast

It Likes And Rates The Podcast Or Else It Gets The Hose Again.
It is a shame though that the rights prevented them from getting Silver Streak, that would have made it an absolute stacked set that even I probably would have gone out of my way to get - though I'm tempted just because of Stir Crazy (my favourite Pryor/Wilder film) 🙂
Yes, Stir Crazy is their greatest IMO.
Also just received the Louis Feuillade release. It's a great box set.
Niiiiiiiice. Just watching them in order, or do you have any different starting point in mind?
@@raidersofthepodcast That's what I am doing very slowly so as not to over indulge
Kevin your reminding me I need to spend more money .Especially on that Richard Pryor/Gene Wilder boxset .
That's why I'm here :)
godzilla minus one minus colour is even better in black and white.
I really need to make time for it. Although it won't be on the big screen :-(
Great video and thanks for shout out !
That HITCHER release looks incredible. I'm such a fan of that movie, and I'm thrilled to see it *finally* getting the love it deserves. I'm right there with you with regard to these giant box-set sized releases for a single film because I'm always struggling for shelf space, but that book of essays sounds amazing and I'm temptedddddddddd. I'm wondering if it will get a R1 release at some point. I have all three of those Iglesia films on previous releases, but that box set looks pretty fantastic. And thanks for the SCARE-A-THON shout-out!
Just keep doing what you guys are doing! We will always support you guys!!
On the plus side, at least we all enjoy talking to one another while unsure if anyone else ever hears it hahaha
no wonder a lot of people chuck youtube,so much work for very little reward, keep your chin up raiders it can only get better.
Thanks mate. I am sure it will get sorted soon. It has to :)
Sweet Shawshank release
Yeah. I have been lucky that all of these Film Vault releases have been complete sets sold on by someone local. Not so lucky for my credit card though.
Great video and beautiful box sets! I may need to grab that Alex De la Iglesia one because he’s one of my favs!
You totally should. My work here is done lol
the hitcher is such a good film, watched it on video when it first came out, watched it about a year ago and its still a great film, what a great box set especially the screenplay.
Yes, a video favourite back in the day. I believe I have watched this more than any other Hauer movie :-)
For years, I was a lieutenant in the Podcast Listener Pronunciation Police, but once I started doing my own podcast, I found out just how easy it is to pronounce names wrong (your mind is on a dozen other things while recording, for one thing). I've since turned in my badge. I really want that Hitcher set, but might hold out for a standard release (if any), because I also have similar shelf space problems!
@@ExiledFrmContentment - ha, I am sure it infuriates many. I listen to some people who pronounce things/names a certain way that I cannot stand, even if they may just be saying things correctly while I have been wrong for all of my years. Mind you, my American co-hosts can’t even pronounce the name of another co-host properly. It’s Craig, not Cregg!!! 😂😂
Recently just got The Hitcher set myself, I freakin' love it - this has always been in my horror top ten so to have this beautiful box just made my day. Still haven't watched it yet because I've been ill over the last week but can't wait to get to it once better. The only good thing about the 2007 remake imo was Sean Bean 😅 everything else was very middling. Love the Arrow box set! 🙂
@@namethestars you will have a wonderful time when you’re well enough to watch The Hitcher again.
there is something scary about that elephant behind you.saw silence on day one on its cinema release, great film.
That elephant is Ganesh, and has been there a lot longer than me hahaha. I would have loved to see Silence in the cinema, but didn't get to it back in the day (first saw it on a very murky pirate copy someone brought back from their holiday in Spain lol).
watched rebel ridge last night, was good but there was a lack of action in it compared to what you see in the trailer.
I loved the fact that the lead was actually not aiming to do more than necessary, until fully cornered :)
I am so bad with thumbnails. This one speaks to me haha
It was the most accurate one I could use.
I agree with these statements regarding The Crow. Although I do love the 1994 film, if we want to be technical, it’s nothing like the comic and I believe it is what you stated about the specific connection it has to the fans. However, everyone should watch and form their own opinions and stop following the hate train. Yes, it may not be a good film but base that after actually viewing it. It can’t rain all the time. On a separate note, Empire magazine was much coveted along with one called Total DVD and they would give a disc each month with the newest trailers and movie shorts. I miss those days! 😂 Great video!
Thank you. Yes, we also had Total Film here, which I think had Total DVD as a spin-off.
The best way to pick up books is secondhand . I know quite a few people that will read a book and just donate it to there local library.
Yes, we like to pass our books along when all done with them :)
@raidersofthepodcast you might as well share it with someone shit a hard cover brand new will run up to 30 dollars. By the way I'm looking forward to hear everyone's thoughts on the upcoming episode .
always associate alain delon with the great euro-thrillers of the 70s.good podcast, first listen.
Thanks Gordy. I am not sure Delon has been cooler than he was in Le Samourai, but I also loved Le Piscine. I have a lot more to check out :)
Great episode buddy.. I can't believe anyone would skip through your videos, I play them at half speed so I get double amount of Kevin.. although it does make you sound weird 😂 Oh and I am loving Donna Tha Dead podcast, think I have found my new candlelit bubble bath listen 😁 listened to The Frightners, The Mist, Undead and Dead Rising episodes so far... I have so many more to catch up on. Like I've said about your podcast Kevin, yes it's great if someone covers movies you love, but ultimately because there are so many podcasts, what I look for is personality in the host(s), some fun and a little bit of knowledge.. and now I have a new regular podcast.. thanks
YES. My work here is done :)
@raidersofthepodcast I have just shared their podcast to one of my friends. My work here is also done 😁 namely for The Company of Wolves and Black Sabbath..
Love the book suggestions and also the shoutouts with all the other female driven podcasts! Great video as usual! Cannot wait to read your take on Alien Romulus👏🏾
Thank you. You can throw a stone and find podcasts from straight white guys (myself included) so I think everyone should seek out at least a bit of variety of ASMR . . . podcast hosts, I mean podcast hosts :-p
@@raidersofthepodcast 😂😂
Another great video . I can't wait for that Richard Pryor /Gene Wilder boxset
Same. Perfect time for a comedy triple-bill on the day that arrives :)
Nice haul ! Thank you for the shout out my friend greatly appreciate it .
Just wish I had a better memory for full titles lol
@raidersofthepodcast I tried to find something distinctive that wasn't being used . But in the process it may be a bit long .
The fault is mine, just because of my hit and miss memory.
Lovely post and now I’m running to get that Stop Making Sense blu-ray. Thank you for the shoutout! Glad to see you in the media room! Wonderful purchases and You’re Next and The Guest are two of my favs! I mean, Dan Stevens alone…lol.
And you coincidentally quoted Talking Heads in your recent Undead chat. Ha. We're in synch :)
@@raidersofthepodcast I sure did and yes we are 😂
you mentioned adam wyngards the guest, they have taken that idea from a uk tv series from the 70s called thriller, the episode is called in the steps of a dead man,ah well they say talent borrows genius steals.good to see your back in your room.
I have never seen Thriller, but I do love an anthology TV show so may well get to it one day :)
If someone leaves because they don't like you speaking your mind then there not worth having .
I can understand people who tune in for the movie chat being disappointed, which I am prepared for, but I hope they can put up with it for a week :)
Totally agree and I understand your frustration. Always speak the truth and speak up even if your voice quakes.
Thank you. Not lost any subscribers yet. Maybe people ignored it lol. Looking forward to hearing you chat about Deathgasm. It didn't download to my phone yesterday, otherwise I would have listened to it already at work.
loving all the purple!!
Vicki has decorated her home over the years, so she gets all the credit for the purple.
quite refreshing to see someone doing a video in their bed.
I am never averse to doing whatever gets the clicks. Or makes people scream and wash out their eyes with bleach hahaha
Having a TERRIBLE day, needed a pick me up. Raiders is always good for that!
@@DeathByDVD awwwwww you!
Another great review and I agree with all your points.
Thank you kindly. Glad you also enjoyed the film. Now bring on Deadpool & Wolverine!!!!
@raidersofthepodcast I can't wait for wolverine& Deadpool. There's a horror movie called Oddity that just came out that looks awesome . But sadly it's a limited release and my local theater probably won't get it.
Yes. Been hearing very good things about that one.
i took the grand kids to the new minions film on saturday and it was busy,if the films are good then people will go and see them.
And people do love those minions. I have enjoyed a few of the Despicable Me movies, but keep meaning to rewatch the first couple and ensure I watch every instalment. Because of my completism :)
I <3 Toby Jones
Everybody should :)
That's a great mail day!
Oh yes. I'd been eagerly awaiting these for months.
the irony is that blockbuster used to have netflix leaflets on its counter where you would send away for videos and netflix became so big that no one would go to the video shop and blockbuster closed its doors.iv seen about 90% of the films on netflix,i think its poor value.
It's nice, but rare, when you dig deep and find some of the gems that they have hidden away from the front page. And Blockbuster tried far too late to get themselves a slice of that Netflix pie. There was some other disc service that I tried, and loved, but I cannot recall the name. Good to see Cinema Paradiso still going for now anyway :-)
I'm all about these streaming services investing in quality projects . Sadly i feel like occasionally they do show up . But there more concerned with the sure thing.
It's all about the alogrithms for them, most of the time anyway, although there have been some pleasant surprises in what they have been able to do when moving into a niche space.
missed this for some reason, could be because the thumbnail isnt in the film room as it usually is.will catch the bve hills cop during the week.
A lot of people have liked it quite a bit more than I did. There's at least some fun to be had with it anyway.
Another excellent video! I agree if your going to talk about a particular subject you should try to your homework.
It just lets people feel more secure in hearing everything you have to say IMO.
@raidersofthepodcast or if there's an area of the subject your discussing your not 100 percent . Acknowledge that when your talking .
cushing and lee, both have incredible bodies of work,to show how long cushing was an actor he was in a laurel and hardy film.
They really don't make 'em like them any more. Although I don't think they ever made any more like Cushing, a gentleman and a wonderful screen presence.
Glad it arrived safely! It is a stunning releases and not even the one I wanted! I wanted the lenticular version (has the steelbook art on the front) I was there at 3pm when pre-order went live and it sold out before I could check out 😅. Going to have to get some more nova releases to keep it company on the shelf 👀😆 Also finally ordered that Bruicploitation set 🥳
My work here is done :)
i need to get thisssss
Yes. Yes you do :-)
The Flesh and Blood Show box set looks amazing! Lot of goodies this go around 🙂
From the Pete Walker films I have already seen, about five or six of them, I highly recommend all of his horror movie work. He always managed to mix in very specific social issues of the time with some great genre moments.
the game of clones is a really good documentary, bruce li was definitely the best of the three.some good stuff this week raiders.
It was so good that I am keen to watch some of those movies featured. I didn't realise there were SO many.
For some reason I forgot there was a 3rd one. 2 was so over the top it felt like a pitch black comedy of police action movies. This latest Bad Boys did seem to come out of no where. I wasn't aware of it until the trailer popped up before the film I saw last week, In a Violent Nature. While i don't love everything from the Bay/Bruckheimer camp, I do have a twinge of nostalgia for it. CSI was piping hot during that era and that slick style definitely made it stand out even if an easy target for parody. Now i too feel like watching the first 2 again and then the 3rd. I'll probably wait for the 4th to hit streaming though. Seeing Joey Pants as angry captain will be fun.
It is fun to revisit the series. What did you think of In A Violent Nature? I have heard very mixed things.
😂 Awesome couple. First time watcher. Not even pass the two minute mark and lmao.
I will try not to let this go to Vicki's head :-p
raiders being heckled from the back, bad boys are popcorn, loud and explosive, you just go and turn off your brain for 2 hours.
Indeed. Vicki is a HECKLER! lol Absolutely agree on the Bad Boys movies being popcorn, but people are a bit too quick to dismiss the well-made films like this that have become more and more rare while execs keep pushing for every film to hit that 4-quadrant demographic sweet spot IMO.
mad max was a big hit worldwide while 2 and 3 would be considered flops, fury was a 2 hour chase movie which was fantastic,i will certainly watch furiosa raiders and will probably enjoy it but i dont know if it suits anya taylor joy,she looks too puny.
A LOT of people have really appreciated her in the role. As much as I am a fan of her, I didn't think she was the best fit. She certainly wasn't bad though.
Incredible Welsh accent.
😂😂😂🤣🤣
Ahhhhh, haven't had my dose of Raiders in over a week, so nice to sit down and watch a new video from you!
Hope you enjoy! The Scream love is very Brit-centric, but it's deserving of all the love.
I am definitely interested in the Scream book. I love older comic book horror.
It's so good, and so very British hahaha
