Awe, you got me in my feelings when you cried finishing your novel. It’s an amazing feeling. Congratulations 🩷
Thank you! I needed to hear this. I have several novels in the revision process and one just came back from a dev editor. I just need to see it through to the final polish and defeat my nemesis.
Thanks Natalie, a really good pep. I appreciate this. And congratulations of completing your novel!
I am currently writing [not in english] the most complicated story that could be easy to read for people that just want to have fun reading it, but also a rabbit hole for those who want to take a dive. I don't outline, but I wrote demo-version of this story and got feedback from many anons that it is awesome. I am writing and editing at the same time, so first draft should be very good, but in the second draft I will push myself to limits of imagination and go above and beyond that for each sentence and each word serve more than one story levels. "The first time around, the story is going to be wrong" - no when you are experienced enough. Story should reflect real life and you won't have real life when your characters aren't alive. On one hand they are puppets in your hands, but on the other hand you have the power of imagination that they are puppets and also real people. Story of real people is never wrong, because it reflects our reality. Reality, unlike imagination, have no limits. Have a nice day.
All great points 😊 definitely very encouraging ❤
Yay! Thank you for watching 💛
Love this ❤
Natalie, thank you for the video. It’s interesting that it took you around five years on your first book. It took me years to finish my first draft, however, like you maybe, I didn’t write daily. Often, I would go months without doing anything other than thinking about the story. Life is always trying to steal your attention. Love how you said the story chooses us - definitely agree with that. This video was helpful and your tips were spot on.
Thank you so much for watching! I agree, 5 years but yes, months would go by without touching my document. Daily writing isn’t for me at this stage in life, and that’s okay! Plenty of people write books in their free time spurts!
So very well said! to tell a story, we have to take the leap and write the darn thing from start to finish 🫶
Yes! You’ve got to get it all out of your head before you can start to make sense of it from a structure perspective!
Loved this! This deff calm some of my anxieties! Congrats on finishing the book! Excited to get there one day myself! I'm writing an adult vampire/supernatural romantasy vibe - i'm having so much fun, but it is a lot! - New to this community and excited to see more videos from you! :)
Romantasy is sooooo fun to read, so I can only imagine how fun it is to write! Maybe that’ll be my next project… 🤔😂 I feel like we don’t talk about how much mental health plays into our creativity and our writing specifically, so I’m happy to contribute to the conversation 💛
@@nataliejaneshields do it!!!✨💖 and it’s so true. Thanks again!
Hello. I'm finishing my first fiction novel. So I got here to learn. Thanks for inspiration
First book! So exciting! Always here to encourage you when you need it 😊
I loved this and fully agree. Very happy for you ❤ and loved following your journey 🎉 I hope to get that community part down eventually, as i am writing my first novel rn. Ty for providing advice, inspiration and community ❤❤❤
Yay first novel!! Finding your community can take awhile, but once you have it you’ll be so happy you put in the effort to get there 💛 Best of luck writing!
Great video. 👍 Six important points to remember when we embark on this writing journey. Congrats on finishing your draft. I'm hard at work on my own and hoping to get a draft by Dec 31. Thanks again for the inspiration!
You’re so welcome! Best of luck with your draft- YOU’VE GOT THIS! 💪🏼
I know this is probably late but congratulations, Natalie! I'm relatively new to your vlog but you've quickly fixed yourself in my list of inspiring authortubers. Hope the rest of your writing journey is as beautiful and rewarding as this video was and remember that good things come when you push through the hard times. Wishing you all the best and peace and love💜✨
Aww thank you!! 💛
Thank you Natalie ❤ Love this! Truly encouraging!
Always here with the encouragement 😊💛
This is such a lovely video!!! Great nuggets of wisdom!! And a 1000% on the community. So many of the stories I’ve finished was because of the support from other writers!!!
Thank you!! And COMPLETELY agree. You can do it alone, but it’ll be twice as hard and take twice as long!
LOVE this Natalie!! 💗✨
Thanks Brielle 😭💛
Congratulations again!! Such a feat to get that draft done ❤ and I completely agree with all of your suggestions, especially about writing friends.
Thank you again! Honestly still so excited that finally got it done 😂
Well done! Yes, writing friends are the best!
You can do it alone, but it’ll be twice as hard and take twice as long!
I wish I could make friends with other writers. It feels impossible to me. Because it feels hard and weird to message someone and be like "wanna be friends?" I'm not good at making friends so I always end up being alone lol 😂😅 I'm currently trying to write book one of an epic fantasy trilogy for the first time. I haven't written since I was a little kid so it's definitely a journey. I'm documenting everything on my channel.
Your best writing friends could be on the other side of that message! Most of the writing friends I have made are through RUclips comments sections, so keep commenting on peoples’ videos and supporting their journeys! Another great place is in writing livestreams! Best of luck with your books! You’ve got this 💪🏼
@@NiveaK. just visited your channel. Going to binge a bit. 😬😅
@@nataliejaneshields You're right, I guess I have to just get over that fear lol
@@african_chris Thank you so much!
Thanks for this! I’ve been working on my current YA fantasy on and off the last couple years. Revising is kicking my butt, but still I persist 😉
But👏🏼Still👏🏼You👏🏼Persist!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You’ve got this! 💛
Yess!! Big on the community! The author tube space is FULL of love and support! Come to the dark side. We have ADHD and dark humor! Love these tips, Natalie! Congrats again on finishing your draft :)
Soooooo much ADHD and dark humor 😂
Congratulations Natalie. I'm just finishing the major plot beats in the planning stage and looking forward to writing it over Winter. :)
So exciting! You’ve got this!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Thank you.
I just found your channel but the way I had to stop myself from SOBBING when you finished it. Had a similar moment earlier this year when I finished my frist draft ever. I'm SO proud of you and of everyone trying to get their stories onto paper. 💕💕💕
Thank you so much 🥹 It’s emotional for sure! All of that hard work finally paying off is such a big deal!
Hello madam You are making amazing video content. I just watched the video and your video quality is appreciable. I am so impressed by your content, I was analyzing your channel and noticed that You are struggling with video views and video ranking. May I share some tips on how you can achieve your goals?
Oh goooosh... this feels sooo healing!! Thank you Natalie!!!
Good 🥰
Congrats Natalie, so excited for you! I finished my 70K+ first draft of my first novel at the end of August. I am about to tackle draft two. Let’s do this!
You’ve got this!!! 💪🏼
100% we don't have to write every single day. It's good to take breaks and reevaluate our goals on a regular basis. Thank you for the reminder ❤
Thank you for watching! It’s a reminder I have to give myself often 💛
Congratulations! It's always so nice to finish a project/ draft, especially when you've lived with it for so long. It was so nice to see the moment you finished!
Thank you for watching! That moment was so vulnerable but so special and I wanted to share 💛
This gave me so much joy to watch and made me tear up with you. Also, how motivating it is for me to watch someone like me fulfill their dreams and show it is possible to do hard things!! Time to write so I can be like Natalie!!
You’re so sweet 😭 You can do hard things!!!
Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for watching! 💛
Congrats!!! Finishing any story is always sooo gratifying, but finishing one after 5 years is on another level entirely ❤ Rooting for you as you move on to draft 3!!
Thank you so much 😭💛
I love your vlogs. You're so real about struggling with writing. I struggle with the same things. I often get demotivated, procrastinate, have trouble writing my scenes, and mostly my brain being empty and not very creative. Glad I'm not the only one struggling. Also, thank you for reminding me to drink water 💧🥤
I love the other authors on this platform who have aesthetic vlogs or who write 10,000 words in a day… but that’s just not me. (I wish it was lol) and I know that there are lots of writers out there who are like me too, and who need to see that you can STRUGGLE and still make the thing happen 😊 AND YES DRINK YOUR WATER
@@nataliejaneshields For real, I'll never understand how people write so much in one day. Writing 2k in a day is a task for me and I usually write 500 or 800 words, 1k if I'm just really in the flow. But I'm still making progress. That's the important part! We'll all achieve our goals one way or another.
This vlog was so precious ❤🥹🥹 ur tears!!! Awww. Congratulations, what an amazing accomplishment <3
Thanks Brielle 😭
Congratulations!! I’m so glad I found your channel :)
Thank you so much! Welcome 😊 I’m a little chaotic but we have fun here 😂
NATALIE!!! I am so freaking happy for you!! And how special it was to celebrate your accomplishment live and in person! So so proud of you, friend!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Cody 😭 Congrats on you finishing your draft too! I laughed every time I watched through this and I’m sobbing then go “oh Cody finished his too! Yay Cody!” 😂😂
Yay yay yay yay yay!!!! SOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU!!! And I've been here since your very first novel ever <3 Which by the way I want to see in print one day too ;)
THANKS BIG SIS
Congratulations. I hope you have a lot of success with it.
Thank you! It’s definitely a mess right now, but I’m optimistic about what it can be after a few edits!
Congratulations Natalie, such a beautiful achievement, thank you for sharing these moments with us ☺️ this was really powerful to watch, I’m so happy for you 💕
Thank you so much!
So exciting!🥳 Massive congratulations - it's an amazing accomplishment, and you should be super proud of yourself! 😊 It's inspiring me as I try and finish my own book. I'm at 61,000 words and counting!
You’re so close! Cheering for you from the other side of the pond!
a massive congratulations to you natalie 🥹🤍 im so happy for you!!
Thank you!! It was hard work lol 😂
I found your video truly inspiring!! I am still working on my book since 12 years!! you are giving me hope!! (and yes, I refuse to feel bad about my progress. If I still keep on fighting, I will finish sooner than "never") Thank you for sharing your video!
Dedication is like 80% of the battle! If the story is sticking with you, then it’s worth telling 💛
@@nataliejaneshields thank you!

Thank you! 💛
BRAVO!! A thousand congratulations to you for achieving this goal! You’re amazing and I’m eager to see you take on this next challenge! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! I’m so relieved 😅 I’m actually looking forward to the next challenge too (surprisingly!)
So many congratulations!
Thank you!! 🥹
Congratulations , Natalie! 🎉 Good on you! I’ve been working on my miniseries (kdrama) teleplay since 2020! The struggle is real! Hope I finish mine soon, too! (I am on Draft 5.) 😅
You can do it!! The thing I like to tell myself is that if it’s taken this long and I still keep going back to it, then it’s a story that I need to tell!
Congratulations 😌🙌🏼 So inspiring. So real. Well done! 👏🏼 ❤
Thank you so much!! 💛💛
I think this is a very healthy mindset to have with writing. It’s something I need to remember.❤
Thank you! I thought it was important to share 💛
I love this idea ❤ As someone with ADHD who has also struggled with severe anxiety, my brain often feels like a separate entity. It's been so healing for me to talk to her (my brain, creativity) as someone who deserves empathy and compassion. "We really want to write today and I know it feels overwhelming, but I'm proud of you for trying." Keep writing and making videos! And thank you for being so open about your mental health and how it affects your writing. It makes a difference ❤
Aww thank you for this comment! The “I’m proud of you for trying” can go a really long way.
Love the idea of naming my muse, even though she is a difficult madame!
Yes! Give her a fitting name and let me know 💛 (I’m nosy haha)
