Nobody Told Me – The Monitors – 1981 (Stereo)
Carefully crafted by a small group of Sydney based studio musicians, this pop offering entered Australia’s national ‘top 100’ chart in May 1981.
The melodic number, arguably an improvement on the short lived outfit’s #16 hit single, ‘Singing In The 80’s’ (issued some eleven months earlier), picked up serious pop radio airtime in some regional locations across the country and gained a measure of national music TV exposure.
Although failing to chart in chart in Adelaide and Melbourne it went on to peak at the national #32 position.
Australia release: Early 1981.
Highest local chart position: #2 (Hobart).

Dream Girl - David Jones - 1964 (Stereo)

Extracted Audio Remix. Pop number that shouldn’t be confused with the same titled, but completely different song performed by the U.K. based singer, Bryan Davies in 1960 (a #5 national hit in Australia). Apparently only ever mixed in a mono format, this track was first marketed in 1965 in Australia by ‘Colpix Records’ under the ‘David Jones’ moniker (pictured). Unfortunately, it only picked up ...

Album Version. Well arranged U.K. produced pop track, deemed to have first charted nationally in Australia on 7 August 1971*. This is the (2.51) track found on the group’s unsurprisingly titled LP album, ‘Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again’. The label on the Australian issued 45 single (pictured) was printed with a slightly shorter running time. Australia release: Mid 1971. Highest local c...

Extended Fadeout Version. Big hit for the beat-rock band from the U.K. and, in Australia, a member of the unofficial ‘tracks to debut at #1’ pop song category. It first entered the Go-Set pop newspaper’s 'national top 40' chart on 7 December 1966, remaining on that music survey for 12 weeks. Many years later, after analysing and tabulating national record retail sales, the ‘Kent Music Report’ d...

U.K smash hit for the then 36 year old singer that failed to register sufficient sales in Australia to crack the national ‘top 50’ chart. It was included on ‘Side 1’ of Marti’s vinyl LP album, ’Tell Me On A Sunday’. Australia release: Early 1980

Australian Issue 45 Single Version. National top 10 number for the classy U.K. four piece ‘progressive pop’ outfit that excluded the (30 second long) distorted guitar coda found on the album version of the song. On 25 August 1973, the heavily layered recording entered the Go-Set pop newspaper’s singles chart at the #37 spot, eventually peaking at #3 some two months later. Ultimately, the ‘Kent ...

Extracted Audio Remix. First issued in the 1963 by the U.K. based, ‘Dave Duggan’, this faster paced rendition was cut some two years later by the 16 year old Australian. The mono recording, mixed with an abundance of reverb on the vocal, picked up solid pop radio airtime in Sydney and Brisbane, and was a major hit in Hobart but, unfortunately, failed to crack the Adelaide and Perth regional mar...

One of a very few pop songs without a chorus to top the Australian singles chart in the 1960’s. Featuring the undoubted vocal skills of the U.S. born singer/songwriter and with a memorable arrangement that builds to a crescendo before its strings end fadeout, this track was marketed well before the publication of the first Australia wide top 40 music survey in October 1966. Years later, the ‘Ke...

Main title piece, composed for a short lived Australian TV period drama that centred around a fictional group of characters living in the Victorian goldfields of the 1850’s. An unlikely pop hit in some parts of the country, the lively two minute track reached #5 on the national chart on 22 December 1974, staying at that position for one week. It was the 52nd biggest selling single of the year. ...

Huge pop/dance hit in Australia for the then 28 year old U.S. born singer. It picked up significant retail sales all over the country, reaching the #6 spot* on the Go-Set pop newspaper’s then national ‘top 60’ chart on 6 March 1971. Ultimately, the publication (which at the time was the sole complier of an Australia wide music survey) listed the track as the fourteenth most popular song of 1971...

Album Version. Mellow vibes recording that aired in the Australian summer of 1977/1978 was, as one wag commented at the time, ‘so laid back it almost falls over’. Not to be confused with the same titled top ten pop hit by ‘The Equals’ in 1968, this single peaked at #15 on the national chart on 27 February 1978. FE Australia release: Late 1977. Highest local chart position (unconfirmed): #10 (Me...

Simply arranged pop offering by the U.S based organist/vocalist that was a top 5 hit in his home country and is credited with an Australian national singles chart entry date of 18 October 1971. The track was first issued in Australia as a ‘B Side’ (to the ‘Keep The Circle Turning’) single and, receiving airplay in nearly all regional markets, went on to peak at the #29 spot on the Go-Set pop ne...

Fabulous song . . . .
I wonder what year this song was from.
Have always loved this song since I first heard it as an 11 year old in 1971 - Massive hit then and stands up brilliantly still!
I used to play this track at every disco I ran. Always went down well
I liked Band Of Gold but didn't have the 45. Thank you for uploading this. I did have Deeper And Deeper by Freda on the same label and I prefer it.
Re: My earlier comment on your first video of this song; it would be good manners to say thank you for pointing out an error as it was intended to help you and not to criticize you. All the best intentions. 'I loved this song as soon as I heard it for the first time and I bought the album. There is something a little off about your sound starting right from the start. There seems to be something cut off and also, the sound is not great. If it's a copy of your original 45, that might explain it but there is something missing at the start.'
1st!
JUST TUENED 21. HAPPY HOURS in full swing back then!!
erie.... feels like using drugs
This song is timeless. With so much development, destruction of familiar places from storms. 60 years ago, still the same. Wonder why she quit singing.

Cool song for the time, never get tired of DooWop!!
Great tune.
Eye Level is MAGNIFICENT!!!! Everything great about Europe is in it. It’s so happy apart from that nagging moment of doubt at the end. Possibly a prediction of Brexit. Or a tacit acknowledgment of our complicity in the holocaust. A great track
Great song Graet memories Graet singer best years of my life
