October 2023 knitting, crochet and weaving projects
Your selvages are really nice! You're making me wish my floor loom wasn't stuck in storage. Weird question: Could blocking it (like you do in knitting and crochet) get the chunkier sections to not pop out as much?
Love them socks!! Who says they were for Halloween 2024! 🤣 what is it with cold craft rooms? 😂 mines freezing as well, and I bought the smallest plug in heater, but I’m not telling my fella because he’ll say ‘I told you so’. So I think a rug it will be with some stash yarn! 🤣
I agree with you that the teal really adds to the dimension of the green yarn!
Thank you ❤️❤️
Love it!
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for sharing I am sure your dog shall be delighted with the new blanket. I have just purchased a Saori loom. If you enjoy hem stitching you should try slow stitching it’s therapeutic and you could make journal.
@neilstephen6761 Oh, I would love a saori loom at some point, they look fantastic! I do love watching slow stitching I think I would really enjoy the meditativeness of it!
Your stash is amazing get creative. Thank you for sharing
@@neilstephen6761 thank you for watching ❤️❤️❤️
Lucky Juno! It was so interesting to see how you set up the loom using the door handle. I know nothing about weaving, but it seemed clever and innovative. Did the blanket shrink length wise when you washed it? I've finished my Lopi mittens. They are ready to be felted and I hope they will shrink to hand size. Otherwise I will have oven mitts. Best wishes for November.
Thanks for watching ❤️❤️ after washing it did shrink a bit but less than expected I think it shrank by about 10% in length and 5% in width
Love your rug.
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You could wash and block a section of the sweater and get an “Ish” measurement. I did that with my Feel the Bern sweater
Oh that's a good idea! I might give that a go!
Lots of great creative ideas. I look forward to seeing how you get on with them. Could you felt shrink the plant pot jumper? I'm trying to be good and finish WIPs as I dug out my craft cupboard the other day and I have plenty to get on and finish. New projects are just so tempting!!
Oh I know the feeling I have so many long term WIPs that really need some loving maybe this month 😂
I love the socks! Your jumper will fit because you’ll make it fit! 🤩🤣. I can sympathise with the overwhelming of too much yarn! I only spin one ball so like you have loads of one skein balls! I use a lot of these for the warp when I weave a shawl. That gets rid of a few. Hope the over whelm eases which im sure it will. A rug would be lovely 🤩 With my end scraps I card them back into wool for spinning in with others wools. Mind you it’s not my favourite job and i have a huge bag of ends waiting to be carded! 🤣
Thank you so much for watching! I sometimes fluff up my scraps and card them into a batt with other wool to add some colour pops and texture.
'I don't plan...anything' - a man after my own (creative) heart! I love the sound of the single skeins cardigan and looking forward to seeing more of your weaving 😊
@astraspidastra7195 thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️
I sent my husband to the computer to order a vari-dent reed before I even finished watching your video. You made my dream fabric. I wish I lived next door to you so I could teach you to sew. You will get the hang of it. They should pay you for demonstrating this! XOX
@carld9021 I'm so glad you got something out of watching the video. I'm sure you'll create many wonderful things with your reed! I really need to dedicate some time to learning to sew.
I just got a veri dent reed and like you, am looking for examples of using it. So Thank You! and your finised project is gorgeous! I also have art yarn I'm 'scared' to use ;) so you've given me some inspiration :D
Lovely to see you weaving! I couldn’t quite tell, did you thread holes and slots, at the same time, with double yarn? Or did you do something fancy? I must say, Juno is very beautiful!! Will she grow much more? I guess you could add a (maybe) fluffy/chinky thick border to her bed so she can rest her chin!
Hi. What a super project and that is one lucky pup. Great bit of repurposing.
@midgeporter7495 thank you ❤️❤️
It turned out great! Juno is a lucky dog. I loved watching you create the rug. I've always wanted a loom. Currently don't have the room, a bit hard to pack in a Mustang LOL. So it will have to wait till we settle down somewhere.
@erinburke4714 thank you ❤️❤️ I held off of weaving for a long time but I'm really glad that I started now
Never heard of this form of needlework before, it’s so interesting to see what can be done with a needle and a ball of yarn. Thank you! 🧶😊
You get an automatic thumbs up for the name Juno, my 5 month old granddaughter is named Juno…love love that your pup is a Juno! 💜 (*also subbed as your channel is wonderful!) Edited because I forgot to mention, the door handle trick is perfect, we have those door handles and I never thought to use them..👍🏻👍🏻
Aw that's sweet. I think Juno is a lovely name. And sometimes lowtech works!
Wow I love how this turned out. The colours are beautiful. I'm sure it will become Juno's favourite.
Thank you so much! Here's hoping 🤞🤞🤞
Great idea and thanks for all the information about making it, hope Juno enjoys it, looks great
Thank you ❤️❤️ she's not eaten it yet so, looking good so far haga
It’s funny how quickly a weaving moves once you warp the loom. It came out great I’m sure she will use it up.
@ardentlyjeca9491 especially with this weave the chunky warp just flew onto the loom!
What a great idea to warp onto a door handle! Love it 😊
@SacredSoulArt thank you! I have a few different warping pegs but I always find myself using a door handle haha!
Oh... 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I wish I could find someone giving away fleeces. 😂 Maybe not 10.... But umm, a couple. Lmao
@@nghtguy13 haha its a good problem to have.. in theory 😂
Beautiful! Your channel is horribly underrated. This is fantastic, quality, new-age fiber works. Ahhhhhh, I want a loom so bad haha. ❤❤❤
Aw thank you so much ❤️ I'm trying to learn more about creating videos so that I can better showcase my projects. I really appreciate you watching ❤️
Hi , wondering how much weightwise alpaca wool would it take to make an average men’s sweater plz? Cheers Pat nz
I've just bought myself one of those mini looms as I have so many hand knitted socks that need repair. You have inspired me!! Love your self-striping yarn. Fabulous colourway!
@midgeporter7495 oh I'm sure soon you'll be excited by a hole in your socks! Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, I so enjoyed hearing about your 3D printing … as you know from my insta posts, my husband is big into 3D printing and has designed and made loads of stuff…all the way from handy things like an insert for the cutlery drawer (!) a door stop, brackets to hold the patio doors open etc - but also loads of Fibre tools for me! He has made me 3 looms and endless shuttles, as well as little boxes for my whorls and needles, also wool combs and blending board feet to tilt my home made blending board!! I could go on (even more). We found the shuttles he made fitted together better with a kind of puzzle piece shape (my idea amazingly😂) and also I like my shuttles curved in the ends and thinner, to manipulate warp threads etc! It’s a whole new exciting world!! (Sorry I went on!!). Oh, and I’m pleased you are bringing your loom into the house…weaving is wonderful especially in the winter! I’ve just finished my experimental gift weave - just have to choose my moment to take it off the loom - always exciting!!
@beverleylawton6899 I've been printing absolutely everything I can think of! Plant pots, Coat hangers, bookends and anything else that that ctahces my eye but designing a 3d object is a totally different way of thinking that I'm used to and I'm really enjoying the challenge. I have 3 different shuttle designs scribbled on posties that I'm dying to play around with and see if they work!
@beverleylawton6899 oh and I used a wee jigsaw joint think on the stitch shuttle I printed. It's quite a clever way of building things
@@FibrePunk I think it’s great that you are enjoying it so much. Have you made sock blockers yet? Also, my husband always tells me that 3D printing is a skill that takes time and his prints are so much better now than they were when he started. I guess it’s like spinning and weaving! You alluded to it in your video, about all the variables like bed temperature, tolerances and the density of filament you choose (I don’t know the technical names!). My husband also has an SLA printer now which is a whole other skill!! It’s great that our hobbies complement each other😂😂 I want a new tool and he designs one! 🥳
@beverleylawton6899 oh I haven't tried sock blockers yet. And yes I love a complimentary skill/ hobby!
3D printing is such an amazing tool! I remember when my little brother started learning to us a 3D printer. We were giddy over the littlest things he made. That Christmas he made me a yarn bowl, and I also have a 3D printed Turkish spindle now too.
I'm definitely still in the giddy phase!
the small drum is called the licker-in. the large drum is called the breast
I momentarily forgot the licker-ins name but I never knew the big drum had a name at all. Thank you!
1st i gasped when i saw your necklace :D and then of course all your creations and your 3d adventures are awesome ;) well done dear <3
Thank you sweetpea ❤️❤️
Would love to see you demo the darning loom!!! Thanks for a great video.
@@Lpaddle oh I could definitely do that! Thanks for watching
Great episode. So happy to hear you have met your nephew. Lucky teddy bear. Sounds like an 18 month sweater for him at one year old is a good plan. Your socks with that detail, the Officer Sweater and the blanket, all look wonderful. Love your gorgeous dyed yarns! And excited for your 3D printing adventures. Best wishes for more October!
@toomiepal thanks a lot Mike! ❤️❤️
Love the socks. Happy knitting
Thank you! And thanks for watching ❤️❤️
Thank you for the video ai love the fabric
Thank you!
Hi Marcus, I am knitting with your DK yarn whilst watching your Q&A. It is absolutely delightful and I am making quick progress on my Manzanilla sweater, even though it is 27 C, because summer wants to be autumn ;-) It sounds like Juno might benefit from learning to run alongside a bike. Lieuwe is much more high energy than Boele, and I can't imagine what he would have been like as a puppy.... Oh my... Good luck with that. He runs very well next to my e-bike (yes I cheat), but it can't be warm when we do that, and Boele doesn't like being left alone. Taking two dogs with me on the bike, is a bit scary though... I did manage it once, but I think I shouldn't push my luck any further than that one time. I love your little loom and I am going to look for one for myself! Ronald's socks wear quite quickly and I want to try weaving patches to reinforce/mend them. Happy autumn and see you soon.
Thank you for your video. Happy spinning.
@@neilstephen6761 thank you for watching ❤️❤️
Thank you for this great video, Marcus. It was lovely to sit and spin with you, while I watched! I enjoyed hearing your experiences - thank you for sharing. I thought your experiences of being a guy knittjng and engaging in the fibrearts, was interesting. Also your perspective about our wonderful community (here, and on Insta) being so loving and supportive being largely due to being female dominated, was real food for thought. Thank you for that. We have a lovely, caring community and I’ve always found Insta to be a great space to share my creative endeavours and learn from others. Btw, I need one of the little darning looms - it looks amazing!
Thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️ I totally reccomend the wee darning looms. They're very very fun to play with. And I don't put off mending things now haha
🎉love video and you are hot
Awesome Q&A
Thank you ❤️
Very nice Q&A! I am new here, so served as a nice means of introduction. Have an awesome week ahead!! 🖤🖤
Welcome! Tha k you for watching ❤️❤️
Being seen as a novelty is never fun! It devalues your work, reduces your depth of character, and makes you wonder if you're standing on your own merit, yes? I hope you are able to push past that and one day the fiber arts and many other communities can have enough diversity to not think twice about your 'novelty'!
I've got to say overall my experiences are positive. And totally outshine any small negative interactions I've had.
oh dear "the shawl of shame" i was pretty sure i knew your "worse" project :P it does look good on you though ;) that was a fun Q&A session!
@em4598 it didn't come to mind straight away but I think that's because I've blocked it out of my memory 😂
Your skeins are beautiful... you did a great job!
@@KYERRN thank you!
Your alpaca yarn is beautiful. It looks so soft and even. For the peacock socks, as the yarn is so busy I would do vanilla or a 3x1 rib 🧶
@andreamagill7034 thank you ❤️❤️
Hi this is the first time I have watched your vlogs and I really enjoyed it. The fabric is stunning. I have only started weaving in the past 6 months and I think a variable heddle will be on my Christmas list. 🧶
So glad you enjoyed it! The variable heddles really opens things up!
Immediate subscription! I have angora goats and just learned how to spin the fiber and could never find a good project for the art yarn I’ve been spinning. Love this! Do you have a recommendation for how to get into weaving ?
@gabestroh2149 well thank you so much! I totally got into weaving for a way to play around with art yarns in a way that will show all their unique features the best. I'm still definitely a novice with weaving, but I decided to go with a rigid heddle because it just seems a bit easier to jump into as a beginner. The fabrics I want to create are more about the yarn and I'm not hugely interested in weaving detailed patterns that I would need a multi-shaft loom so the rigid heddle was a better option for me.
@@FibrePunk Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely look into to the heddle! Keep being amazing!
Oh hi Marcus! Im Bruce from Canada. Discovering your channel :)
Hi Bruce! Thanks a lot for watching ❤️❤️
You did a lot better (got more done) for your tour de fleece than I did. I am really impressed with your hanks, they look beautiful.
Thank you so much❤️
Aww really glad I came across your channel! I LOVE the northeasterly blanket! Its on my to do list ... along with about a 150 other things ... eventually I'll get to it :D Love the yarn your spun, its a lovely colour xx
Thank you so much for watching ❤️❤️ I have my own to do list that's definitely going to outlive me haha
@@FibrePunk hahaha 🤣 at least you know who to leave the stash for! Haha Would you say the northeasterly is an easy pattern? Xx
