    Great message. If folks would just consider converting these huge house yards to flowering habitat-what a great help this would be! Plus, why spend your summer on a lousy lawn mower with fuel at $3.60 or more a gallon? Ugh!

    Rebuild habitat for sure - and bless you for it - but also lobby hard for more organic farming support and a stop to the virtual non-stop poisoning of our farm lands by BigAg. Those poisons have wiped out millions of insects in recent years and are also death to frogs, birds, and everything else all the way up the food chain to us. They cause humans various types of cancers, asthma, neurological damage, fertility issues, birth defects, and are linked to the world wide epidemic of Parkinson's Disease. We MUST stop poisoning our planet, but currently TONS of these chemicals are being sprayed every single year.

    We need state initiatives to create incentives for cities, towns and counties to create more habitat for our native pollinators including pollinator gardens.

    I just added Butterfly Milkweed plants to my pollinator garden this year, several of which were small plants that I grew from seed, with two others being large, beautiful, and blooming plants obtained from a nursery. I was happy to see the plants being sold locally as I hadn’t recalled seeing them around before. The nursery has increased their native plant section- yea!

    I love my butterfly weed- they really are beautiful. I do worry about it eventually taking over my entire garden though! 😅 I just keep pulling up as many new shoots as possible to try to keep it under control

    It's great to see the footage of not just the bees, but the native plants which support them! One takeaway for me from this video is what Echinacea purpurea looks like! Also, nice footage of a male green sweat bee at 2:03

    Thank you for this video! Such helpful info. I started my prairie garden 3 years ago and this spring has been such FUN so far! Sooo much is thriving that was teeny-tiny last year… and there are even some things coming up for the first time 😍 It’s nice to be reminded that these things take time. Happy Spring! 🙏🏼

    If I’m cutting down to 6” the first year how do any wildflowers get established next year as I would think there wasn’t time to develop and drop them.

    • @user-wq5ws1qs7x
      @user-wq5ws1qs7x 4 месяца назад

      Flowers and plants keep growing no matter what. In fact, when you cut them the energy goes into the roots because you cut the flower off. Then it grows back. You ever cut a tree down and all of a sudden there is a bunch of suckers that shoot out? That’s from all the energy since you removed the tree.

    • @MD-wk3gj
      @MD-wk3gj 4 месяца назад

      @@user-wq5ws1qs7x but don’t all the plants I don’t want come back too? I’m asking because I have a large area I’d like to convert to native wildflowers and native plants but there are lots of none natives and undesirable plants there now.

    Pheasants forever bought a farm next to my acreage that I want to build on. The wildflowers and grasses that their smells give off in the middle of summer are unbelievable. Bees, all I hear all day is buzzzzzzz. Last year the monarchs returned, I hadn’t seen the migration come through for over a decade.

    Funny do you mention the seeds need days of cold-stratification? I wonder where thisvwas

    • @minnesotanativelandscapes6005
      @minnesotanativelandscapes6005 Год назад

      We do not mention this fact! The seeds that require more intense cold stratification will lay dormant at the soil surface until they receive their required level of cold/moist stratification - as they do "in the wild". All species in a seed mix have totally different needs for stratification.
