Trimmed vs Untrimmed Surfaces in Grasshopper
This is amazing. It’s incredible that they’ve made these compatible and seamless. It’s so nice of you to have made this, but just seems completely out of my reach. I don’t know how people learn this stuff. I could never hope to understand grasshopper
I've watched this video twice and i am still not satisfied...
😮 THIS IS CRAZY!!! JAK, I NEVER THOUGHT THIS INTEGRATION GAVE SO MUCH CONTROL & FREEDOM TO GRASSHOPPER
Thats some high level animation
How can I make an animation like this?
Really appreciate the effort 👍 The way you have explained the workflow and organizing the definition is quite helpful to understand how we can start building the foundations of computational thinking, thanks a lot for sharing the valuable thoughts through this content 🙏❤🔥
Thanks Shankar, yes this is exactly how I am trying to show people the way and method so people can develop their computational thinking, rather than just following along
Wonderful tutorial, thank you so much for sharing !
Glad you enjoyed it Vlad!
This really shows the workflow be working in real life projects these type of content is much needed appreciate this
Yes for sure, trying to help people develop their computational thinking, rather than just following along
I should really look into learning about these plugins, thank you Sir Jak
Thank you Jak for this amazing explanation regarding Longest List, Shortest List, Cross Reference 🙏 This is a foundation concept that needs to be understood with clarity to understand data tree structures in grasshopper well. Thanks a lot for the clarity 👍
Thanks Shankar!
Thank you Sir Jak, i never knew such a thing was so important in the logic of communication with grasshopper
My pleasure Godsent! Definitely an important concept to get to grips with!
Great bite sized video explaining a higher level of complexity in the program! Great work as usual!
Thanks Craig!
Nice information
Thanks Mohmed! Anything else with grasshopper you'd like to see a video on?
Do you have any e-books that you could recommend on the subject?
no chance i can follow this. what a shame
It's not meant to be a follow along, sorry! Here I am just highlighting the main steps I used parametrically, to make the form in Grasshopper.
I used Dynamo mainly for geometry, I would like to learn it for more repetitive tasks. Dynamo cause I could use it with revit while I was student
well explained
I am currently an undergraduate Architecture student in Ghana, west Africa. I will love to specialize in computational design after my M.arch degree and obviously I can't do that in my home country. So which country or continent and which university will you recommend?. Thanks
Come to us at Lincoln University in the United Kingdom. We are developing a programmes based with this at the centre.
YOU CAN START BY PAYING FOR THE COMPUTATIONAL DESIGN MEMBERSHIP BY THIS SAME TEKNE LEARN, I AM FROM NIGERIA, WEST AFRICA CURRENTLY LEARNING A LOT FROM HIS COURSE, YOU DONT HAVE TO SPEND ALL YOUR MONEY TRAVELLING TO ANOTHER PART OF THE WORLD FOR KNOWLEDGE YOU CAN DEDICATE YOUR TIME TO LEARNING IN A STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT, AND FROM A LOCATION OF YOUR CHOOSING. YOU SHOULD REALLY THINK ABOUT WHAT WOULD BE BEST ALL ROUND.
its amazing man not getting the time to start the course
How do u control that windows don't be placed in a wall that is shared by a neighbour block?
Hi, here's another approach i believe to be better. make a bunch of hexagons, get their center points, calculate the distance from an attractor point to center of each hexagon, and feed the distance to circle radius (number of circles must match the number of hexagons, hexagon centers ofc, and distances calculated *just to make sure you haven't done any mistakes*) then using the circles u made and the hexagon center point; find the tangent vector for circle[i] at point[i], the vector then gets passed to rotate3d component to the axis input and the distance we calculated earlier can be remaped from from bounds to something like 0 to 90, and then passed to degree input in rotate 3d.
or even better calculate the vector using vector 2pt component, for center of each hexagon and the attractor point, the rotate the vector by 90 degrees
Awesome video!
Thanks Alejandro!
Hi sir I am in ( challenge)
Can't wait!! 🤩🤩🤩
Sign up for the LAUNCH WEBINAR here - www.teknelab.io/compmindset-launch - we go live in JUST OVER 1 HOUR!!
Why don't they both come together and create a master software like Dynahopper that has all the functions in one place? 😅
Fantastic design!
Great ..
I think the best way to use BIM is with VisualARQ because it is inside Rhino and allows you to use Grasshopper with excellent integration
how do you do these animations?
Through Grasshopper and Rhino! I will be making some content in the coming months on how to do this, as part of something exciting I am releasing soon. So stay tuned!
@@teknelearn3076 Ok, Thanks. 😉

Do designers have a future? computational design will replace them. si
I place a lot of emphasis on the idea that the design process is now a controllable workflow and can branch (non-destructively) at any stage. It’s no longer a spiral but a tree with as many branches and results as you can imagine. Nice summary
Things are so scarce on this topic, thanks for a great demo
Glad you enjoyed it Ranjit! Are there other topics you would like to see covered?
Thanks dear Jak...All these short 1 mintues videos are brainstrom..it smees easy but no ,it takes time to think in comutaional way.i am trying to write a senario of my own but by looking yr video .I am wondering this MD slider was connected just to a cell curve or jusrt it was a free point any where we can move?
Thanks for the feedback! Yes the MD Slider here is just being used to create a point that we can easily move around. You could also use and XYZ point component and 3 sliders, this way you also get control of the Z at the same time!
Great video! Thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Jemima! If you want to get the freebies that we gave along with this make sure to sign up to our platform - www.teknelab.io/computational-mindset-webinar
Amazing video. Thank you for the well explained into the difference pros and cons.
Thanks for the support and glad you got some good insights from the video Sonda! Let me know if you'd like to see videos on anything else!
It would be good to mention that Grasshopper has a great connection plugin for Archicad that allows to create geometry and data natively in BIM.
Yes, totally! Archicad is an amazing piece of BIM software too. I generally focus on Revit, but from what I can see Archicad is just as capable (although much less used in the industry).
Yes, I think Archicad is more intuitive than Revit.
Thank you so much looking up for the data tree videos
Thanks for the suggestion! Will definitely do one in the future 👍
Thanks for sharing mindset..i started like you grasshopper in 2010 and have been blocked how to having computational mindset, rather than watching so many toturials during so many years.now i Can bring all m'y knowledge to depth thanks to yr webinar.
That's great to hear! Yes, I see a lot of 'tutorial' videos out there, but not enough sharing the fundamentals to learning in the correct way. Glad you can start to apply some of the concepts!
❤❤❤
What did you think of the video? :) Are you using Revit and Grasshopper too then?
Traditional design methodology is baking in every idea at every step. With a parametric mindset every stage in the design process is still editable.
Well said!
you are the only channel who presents the computational design theory in a visually coherent way. i really really appreciate that. most other channels if they do delve into the theory, just start talking about the concepts, a lot of which are extremely abstract for newcomers like myself, and especially people coming visually oriented software. the fact that you actually incorporate visual design concepts into your videos and presentations makes all of this info so much more digestable. thank you, and looking forward to more videos!
Thanks so much for the feedback! Yea these can be very abstract concepts to understand and also most designers are going to be more visually orientated thinkers. For this reason I find diagrams and sketching out problems helps a lot, both for students learning and professionals. If you haven't already seen it my Developing a Computational Mindset masterclass is a good place to go next! You can find it on my channel, or head to my website for the additional freebies that go with it: www.teknelab.io/computational-mindset-webinar
this is the single best grasshopper video i've ever watched. as a visual artist trying to learn computational design through youtube tutorials i've been searching for more foundational lessons and this is the first time i feel like i understand what all of these components and parameters are meant to do. thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yea I think there is an overwhelming amount of tutorials for Grasshopper, focusing on some foundational concepts will definitely help you more in the long run. If you are interested in the next steps to take after the video above, you could check out our Computational Mindset Primer! www.teknelab.io/computational-mindset-primer
Good curve learning today, specially using range for multiple outputs on any input.
Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it. Make sure to check out our Surface Types video next!
Did you know them all, and their properties? Let me know what you think!
What a great approach! Before start scripting, to have a clear and organized sketch taking into account the different variables and the goals to achieve is fundamental. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for your comment Jorge! So glad it resonated with you.
I use Dynamo at a very “basic” level primarily to automate repetitive tasks in Revit. But it was a good introduction to visual scripting with Grasshopper, then expanded and studied in depth with Tekne Learn’s courses
Yes totally agree Antonio! I was using Dynamo before Rhino inside Revit was released... but haven't looked back since it was!
Are the course content demonstrations/practice problems worked through or explicitly implemented within this specific methodology framework- So that we can practice the system? Can’t wait to purchase
The methodologies that you learn on our Grasshopper:CMC (Computational Mindset Coaching) projects all follow the same build logics and structures. We run through lots of practical exercises and challenges so you are learning to actually apply and practice these methods in in constructive ways. It is very active learning compared to passively watching lots of tutorials! Would love to have you on board Lars! Feel free to book in a call with the link above if you would like to discuss further!
