I have a couple of classic digital. Love tech history. Also I was hoping you'd pull that bit of skin off your finger. 😅
Sorry about that! I forgot to get a manicure before this video 😁😁
Hi, I just want to take clear ebay pictures, and I cant get it to focus and take a clear picture no matter how hard I try. It was working. Don't know what I did?!! Thanks, Brenda
Unfortunately if you can not get focus at all that means the camera is broken. I have another Canon camera that has the same issue I cannot get it to focus at close or far distances. These older cameras weren't really made to be fixed, so you should be on the lookout for a replacement on eBay 👍
Isn't the setting only valid for your model of powershot?
Actually these settings are valid for many in the power shot series. Canon did a good job of having these features in a variety of their cameras. 📸
SoCal I miss it. Beautiful camera. I use a Vito II and love it Maybe this is the new camera for me to try.
I definitely reach for this little camera more and more when I want to do film. It's so compact and easy to use. SoCal misses you! 🌴
hey, whats your take on canon sx160 is ? is it better than my android phone ?
Technically any modern phone is better than any of these vintage cameras. However you're not going to get the same sort of vibe or aesthetic from a modern camera. The modern cameras just really push their color science in a modern direction. A vintage camera was all about a vintage color science. You should get one of the ones in my guide and see for yourself 📸
Nice video,is samsung st65 a normal camera?
Very good vid. Thank you a lot!!! I really like dx-10, p51 and f717. You recon f707 takes same pics as f717? I want to get one for night vision shots
The 707 is one of the older ones in this line, so you'll get some nice results. But the 717 and the 828 being later models are just technically better. The 828 is the most expensive one, but the 717 is a good equivalent.
please post more videos!
I have so many ideas for more videos for sure! I just need to find the time 🥲
i love how there’s so much more in depth settings to these little cameras
thanks for the tips - applying this look to my sd1000
You're welcome! How did it go?
Can I contact you via Instagram?
Nice video 🔥
So should the EV be -1/3 or +1/3? This short and your video about Kodachrome64 settings contradict themselves.
It depends on what kind of look you want. Overexposure is a certain look, and underexposure is another look. Both are good looks, but it just depends on what you want. The great thing is you can shoot a shot in each of those two modes and see which one you like best. Unlike film you have unlimited shots!
This is awesome info! I purchased a PowerShot SD800 IS recently & am looking forward to adjusting it for the vintage feel. Your settings are perfect and should translate well to my new (to me) camera.
This really helped - got this camera at a garage store and was playing around w the settings, thank you!
Excellent! How are you liking the camera so far?
Very entertaining and informative video, keep up the good work!
You really can't go wrong with these "modern" film compact cameras. I can't speak for this Canon here but I own a Nikon LiteTouch Zoom 100W and a Pentax Optio 120SW. Very similar specs, small, packed with a lot of features and dead-easy to use. I assume this Canon isn't any different in use or capabilities. Lovely cameras!
Totally agree. By the end of their lifespan, these compacts were top notch. And they're kind of under the radar, because the influencers are going crazy over other brands and models, and driving up the price. I'll take one of these under the radar point and shoots any day!
What settings do you use?
Thank youuu💕
Just picked back up my ixus 850 is after 10+ years of retirement!! I've been shooting many kinds of cameras over the years, lately mainly film point & shoot. But somehow felt nostalgic about this camera! I'm gonna take it for a spin!
The price just doubled! 😮😁👍
Oops! 🤑
Nice suggestions, for vintage feel stills my top ten 10 - Nikon Coolpix700 9 - Canon Powershot G5 8 - Pentax Optio i-10 7 - Leica D-LUX 3 / Lumix LX2 6 - Fujifilm F601Zoom 5 - Pentax Optio E30 4 - Pentax K-R 3 - Fujifilm X-E1 2 - Ricoh GXR (all modules) 1 - Casio QV-3500EX Yes to me the Casio is THE "filmish" digicam and i got A LOT. I can't stop driving this gem, it is so good...I think it's a Canon powershot G1 in disguise, same lens, same 3.3MP sensor, but the firmware offers more customisation, while G1 offers a hotshoe. You guys have to consider this one, and very cool side effect: no one suspects this model to be such a sleeper so price are not skyrocketing like Canon's iterations. A sort of Canon G1.5
Great top 10, for sure! I love the whole range of digicams; and I love how some are still under the radar!
Great info, I'll certainly try this colour recipe on my canon powershot a650is, I have noticed thise settings but have not used them before. Do the settings remain when you turn off the camera? I've added your channel, it's good to connect with other retro photographers.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the settings should remain, as long as you don't replace the batteries. If they do disappear, just watch my video again. 😁😁
I loved this video! Your narration is fun and engaging. I definitely saw some unique picks in this video too which is nice for variety. I would love to see in depth videos about each camera. Especially, because I’d like to know more about the specs and features each camera offers and how the perform in real life. You’ve gained a sub! Thanks!
Thank you very much! Yes, I want to do a deep dive on each. I just need to find the time 😅
It's funny, but my strategy for setting the color profile of this camera is the opposite =) I reduce the contrast as much as possible and make the exposure compensation negative. This allows you to reduce glare and overexposure, as well as preserve more shadows and information in dark areas. Since this camera doesn't have a raw format, this setup allows me to retain as much information as possible if I want to edit the image after shooting.
Thanks for sharing! That's what I love about photography: everyone can do it the way they like. One thing I'd caution about underexposer, however, is that you're prone to accentuating noise when you bring up the shadows. These older cameras did not do well in low light; you'll find a lot of weird chroma noise in the shadows. But if you're going for that vibe, that's good! If you have a RAW image, yes, you'll preserve more shadow info; but from a regular JPG, not so much. Anyway, thanks for watching and comment!
Hi! What settings do you use to get a film-like look? A lot of my pictures are ending up blurry. Thank you!
Blur comes from not enough light. Here's a tip for a nice film-like look: set the camera to Slow Synch Flash, and then the White Balance to Cloudy. Those should create some results. Good luck!
How many photos can I take with the memory stick? And I can use the memory stick pro?
You cannot use Memory Stick Pro; it's too new. I don't remember how many pictures fit on the stick I showed, but it' enough: you don't want to save 100s of shots. Even 36 shots is "enough." After all, if you lose the memory card, you lost all your photos. It's best to take 2 dozen or so and then save them to your computer, so you don't lose them. Hope this helps!
Gotta any more recipes you have dialed in? Would love to see more that you come up with
I've got more in mind, but I've been using my new Canon EOS 5D Mark II a lot, so I haven't used my digicams for a bit 😅
What's the best digicam for video?
Good question. It's not in my list, but I like the Samsung NV 24HD. It can do 720p video, and has a very nice wide angle view. So, that's juuust HD quality, and the colors look good. The Canon A590 is also very nice, but only goes up to 640x480 video, which is not HD, but very vintage-looking. Hope this helps!
The charger for this camera is complicated. I don't know where to plug it in.
It must be a very specific cable, and plugs in at the bottom. Be sure it's the one I have linked. A long as it's the right cable, it should plug in at the bottom. Then you need to use a wall plug USB block to power it: www.ebay.com/itm/274105125904?itmmeta=01HT8GFA6S58V8ZGG42VZXZ101&hash=item3fd1f04c10:g:9LIAAOSwPa9d1NnA&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4D3lgv1lKyBdy86K2qxXaWBtYaveP%2BaUlUuhushX5o3YQ09bkuPDl%2FRvCLC7QkP09wfKYhz8oFnsYLi19YB%2Fqg3fM7zRAaJZtrQwNFRsJs7KLnJcuBNy8WON%2FT8NfHlVkl877J%2ByCF1HTNLl0F5TZ9QODJFd23JRvNYrkIKlDO7CnixAERARkEuriX8OAsj7jy6z%2Fj%2FKKJirkYB1gIyJWXnhY2r1vuSTSK5iB3EAonWXHSJxePEOuNf9pcZSxD2Fj4l48IYezNyT0rj0TMHCruH4PkhDzUbPlGSRQZ3JSpTo%7Ctkp%3ABFBMwKO9kNJj // www.ebay.com/itm/276373987267?itmmeta=01HT8GJRYRT6AS2C31789XT0E6&hash=item40592c5fc3:g:MP0AAOSwVa9l7QRb&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0F7IjD%2BWPyGo%2B4bGReQXX7qbVGJ5IOf%2FuQYSql4pjkgEaC3LWLNgFYmDvJbLS9IaKUbBlEBc9fIIuu73U%2BmanyGVUug6xYutU241hoz5txf1ZTm%2FPaRD2CxmQOvVmq1oFAzV35I3V0PViFRDss41sVKN6mvrgXebfnk2CpvBhGHXWn0v3kGXvbm9hKdWzCR%2FxPnmmpDtTqdOIjNNp88HqRZlQlk2jyW42KuL%2FRWOKZK9JistVTSlMxo2iRTqogwqZhQQm2B9bL6xkwzMx0hzco0%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8aPy5DSYw
@@vmcamposCameraClub Thank you for your suggestion, you were very helpful.
How to set the green grid
The green grid appears when the camera is focused. Lightly press the shutter button to lock focus, it should turn green and maybe make a beep sound; then take the photo. Hope that helps!
Kodachrome 64 is is a color slide film and color slide films has a completely different overall look than photos and as he said this is displayed with a projector and depending on the warmth of the projector bulb will determine the output of your image.
Yes, but most projectors strove to be "neutral" or "daylight" balanced. You wanted a 5000k, or so, bulb to have a neutral color rendition.
Brother I love this video, thank you!
Thanks very much! I need to make another one, because I love this hobby!
Thanks
You're welcome. Hope you got some great results!
I am going to try to set up an eos-m to get that look.
Hope you get it working! (Also, try the vintage cams, to get the most authentic look!)
@@vmcamposCameraClub The picture styles worked great.
The photos are edited or raw?
These are all unedited.
Thank you very much, im going to load up mine today! Was on the shelf for a few years no idea that it might work. Thanks again
Thanks for watching! Hope yours worked. How did it go?
The photos are edited or raw?
All are unedited.
Such an excellent camera. This Fujica and the Konica Pearl IV, best two of the classic folders. Honorable mention to the Voigtlander Perkeo, cause it's tiny.
Thanks for watching! Thanks for letting me know of more such cameras. 👍
Will it work on Canon 5d classic full frame camera????
The 5D has its own settings. I'll share a video on that soon!
Excellent
Nice. I just dig out an old SX130 and setup the same. Think that a CCD. Going to see how it turns out. My daily driver is a 5D2 so I might also try a custom colour on that.
Thanks for watching. How did it go?
It worked well, I did find I needed to go the other way with exposure comp, I know over expose is the look but I found it was a little too much so I went 1/3 under and that was better. Ive tried a few other recipes but I keep coming back to this one.. well done you got a good one, now im looking for another Canon old digi cam for my collection :) @@vmcamposCameraClub
Can you do a video on settings in Canon PowerShot SX? Especially the exposure settings?
Thanks for watching, and the suggestion! I plan on getting an SX120 so I can make such a video eventually. Stay tuned!
The scarlet fire 😂, i thought i accidentally opened @DankPods video
one weird trick!
ciao.i'm from italy. your video and your opinion are correct old dsrl or NEW or mirrorless ? is not the same and old is good !12mpx or 18mpx is not a problem ...8mpx are so good for all if is'nt your job... i have an old canon 100D "the first little digital DSRL camera in the world" and will Always with me . I HAVE MANY CAMERAS BUT CANON 100D.....it's little it's a canon the lens are so good.etc etc ...😊 great rewiew for explain the sense of cameras and what do you want from them..... bye
Thank you for watching! I'm happy you enjoyed the video. It's amazing how camera technology has evolved, but also that the older cameras are still very good! Ciao!
How’s the resolution? I just bought this camera and it advertises as its images near 4k quality but the images you showed didn’t seem sharp. Is that because of your specific settings?
Thanks for watching. I didn't upload the video in 4k, so that's one reason why my samples maybe didn't look as sharp. Also, these images were Straight Out of Camera, not processed. Usually, the most "beautiful" images are quite processed. As for being advertised in 4k, that is wrong. 4k didn't exist in 2007 when this camera was new. Whoever is selling it was not being honest. A 4k image is either 3840x2160 pixels or 4096x2160 pixels. This one makes 3648x2736 images; so while the number of pixels is "4k" it does not use the modern image processing to render it as a "real 4k." Also, the video quality is not at all 4k. But I think it's a great camera for vintage digital camera photography, which is what is popular now. If you want 4k quality, you'll need a modern camera that costs 10 times more. Anyway, thanks for the comment. 📸
If i want to get good photos of my friends at parties at night, which settings do you recommend? (i want them to look edited with somewhat dark exp but a lot of light at the same time in the people)
Thanks for watching! For that effect, you need to use slow synch flash mode. Check your settings and turn that on. Then, you'll have bright flash on people, but dark backgrounds. Hope this helps!
Ok, do you convinced me. I'm gonna try.
Hope you get some nice results! Le me know 📸
It’s funny, but in Moscow all prices for such Canons have skyrocketed to 60-200 dollars. On the contrary, prices for FZ45 - 50 / Fuji exr F500-770-800+ and other z812 such as S200 or s6500fd are very affordable (twice lower from 30+), you can still find e-510 e520 or g3, pm1 / a37-a55 quite a nice price of 50+ as if we were buying this canon with 5-7mp but now without loss of image
Yes, prices for various digicams have changed a lot recently! I think they will stabilize eventually. Which is your favorite camera?
would this work on canon g9?
Yes if it has the same menu items. I don't have the camera, so I'm not sure, however.
