Reel Mower Electric Conversion Prototype
Fiskars StaySharp Max Reel Mower with electric conversion using Ryobi 40V drive system. Metal plate and brackets from Lowes, swapped gears around, added chain tensioner from Amazon with some modifications, new chain and made to custom length, added a conveyor roller for the front.
I have the self propel items and will be adding that soon.
This is just a demo for now but will be working to make a polished version and try out other brand electric drive systems.
Demo is at about a .75 inch cut. Lawn has not been leveled. This mower was used to scalp lawn from about 2 inches to the .75 with no issue and is now maintaining the lawn every 3-4 days with now issues. Have run it several times acros...

    What is the purpose of the conveyor roller? Just a wheel or is it too push the grass forward so the reel catches it or something?

      I am working to make a finished looking package for this. If you were to want this would you rather have the entire mower built for your or a kit to add to a Fiskars that you install? Also, would you have a preferred battery system (Ryobi, Ego, etc.)?

    • @Gx22
      @Gx22 3 года назад

      @@justdrivedetailing3900 I would be so down to test a Ego battery system with this. As for a preference between having it built or having a kit to put together myself, I think that depends if the kit requires any fabrication or if it's just a bolt on/screw on kit. And of course the cost. What were you thinking?

    • @justdrivedetailing3900
      @justdrivedetailing3900 3 года назад

      The way I am putting it together is a bolt on using the existing fasteners on the Fiskars mower. So it wouldn't be too difficult to put together. I will try to find an EGO system to put together. I am trying to run this prototype as hard as I can now to find any weaknesses. It is doing great so far.

    I have two of those Fiskars mowers too and would be very interested in how to convert them also. I have a lot of Ryobi 18 volt+ tools and lawn equipment. I got a really good deal on the 40 volt self propelled 21 in rotary mower which it looks like you used the parts from in the conversion.

    • @justdrivedetailing3900
      @justdrivedetailing3900 3 года назад

      I did use the 40 volt from a 21. I was thinking of trying an 18 on the next one to see if it is strong enough.

      @@justdrivedetailing3900 I had a Ryobi 18 volt+ 16 inch mower I gave to my daughters for their small yard. The 18 volt+ mower will run on a single 18 volt Ryobi battery but runs much better with more power on two batteries. One battery may be the right amount of power just to spin the cutting reel. Have been thinking about trying to convert the Fiskars mowers for several years with one of my Ryobi hand tools and just found you video. Your solutions seems straight forward and easier. Great Job!!!!! Thanks for posting the video.

    How did you do this?

    • @justdrivedetailing3900
      @justdrivedetailing3900 3 года назад

      Fiskars StaySharp reel mower, some metal from the hardware store, reversed the gears, added a chain tensioner from Amazon, new chain to accommodate the exact length I needed, used the control circuits and motor from a Ryobi 40V lawn mower, cutoff front wheel brackets and added a small conveyor roller, that's about it. All of the metal supports for the from that hold the battery tray and motor use the existing fastener locations of the Fiskars mower. I did not drill any more holes into the Fiskars frame except for mounting the front roller. I am still playing with adding self propel to it. The guts I took from the Ryobi mower have the self drive I am just working out how to connect that. The mower rolls so easy it really doesn't need self drive, I just want to try it. Also, I will add a better roller or something like it in the back to aid in striping, and that also helps when mowing uneven ground.
