to God be the Glory
Nope. The laws of slavery in ancient Israel paralled those of both surrounding and preceding cultures. There was nothing new about them. Nothing special. In many cases, they were less progressive than the laws of other societies.
So it means, the despite the brutal law at the time, God has planted the seeds of the dismantling the brutality of humans
@@ageshero "God's" laws suspiciously reflect the prevailing views of the time..... Gee. I wonder why?
@@cygnusustus supposing that the these are new proposed additions to a more brutal state of the law in those times- would suggest a fundamentally different view of treating humans with ethical decency. By our standards today, it all appears brutal, but- give it take a couple thousand years. It makes historical and geological sense.
@@cygnusustus so, I would finalize say that- narratively (if you are not a believer) The idea of God, elevates men to treat men with a higher standard of ethics. And before our modern times, to go against current culture at that time- would have been very controversial. - Additionally there’s deeper language explored in the Bible regarding us, and is being slaves to sin. Or a servant into a kind and loving being. … Where we are genuinely imprisoned by sin(wrongness, or to fall short) not being able to make things right … Jesus presented us as, “bought with a great price” we were purchased. So we wouldn’t have to be slaves to sin, but become established and adopted into his kingdom
@@ageshero "supposing that the these are new proposed additions to a more brutal state of the law in those times" They were not. That was my point. "By our standards today, it all appears brutal, but- give it take a couple thousand years." Thanks for agreeing that the Bible condones and promotes chattel slavery. "The idea of God, elevates men to treat men with a higher standard of ethics." History shows the exact opposite.
"The slavery in the Bible is not racial." Another lie. First, race is not even a necessary or sufficient component of chattel slavery. Slavery does not need to be race-based in order to chattel slavery. Second, chattel slavery in Ancient Israel was contingent upon the ethnic heritage of the person.
"Whoever steals a man and sells him shall be put to death. Slave trade: abolished." LOL. Lie, lie, lie. That verse applied only to the kidnapping of fellow Hebrews. This is made clear when the same law is repeated in Deuteronomy 24:7 "If a man be found stealing ANY OF HIS BRETHEREN OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEEL, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you. The Israelites captured and enslaved non-Hebrews all the time. The buying and selling of chattel slaves is explicitly allowed in Leviticus 25.
I watched a Mike winter episode regarding this issue, You’re correct. The law they’re describing is Hebrew law, if I’m not mistaken
@@ageshero Yep. It was a law that applied only to fellow Hebrews.
@@cygnusustus man! You know what’s up
"That form of slavery (chattel slavery) is explicitly condemned in Genesis 1 and 2." Nope. Lie, lie, lie... Chattel slavery is defined as "the enslaving and owning of human beings and their offspring as property, able to be bought, sold, and forced to work. Another definition is: "The condition in which one person is owned as property by another and is under the owner's control, especially in involuntary servitude." Leviticus 25 explicitly describes and condones chattel slavery. "44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids. 45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession. 46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour." Under Mosaic law, foreign slaves were chattel slaves. They could be bought, sold, separated from their families, beaten, raped, killed, kept for life, and passed down as inherited property. Every specific reference to foreign slaves in the Bible is to deny them rights and protections afforded to Hebrew slaves. The treatment of foreign slaves was every bit as bad, or worse, than slavery in the Antebellum south.
"In a sinful world, God operates to protect the vulnerable from mistreatment." More lies. Exodus 21 allows masters to beat their Hebrew slaves nearly to death, and Leviticus 245 states that they can abuse their non-Hebrew slaves even more harshly. This is in no way "protecting" the vulnerable from mistreatment. In fact, there were NO LAWS protecting non-Hebrew slaves. Such lies.
<sigh> When are Christians going to stop repeating these lies about their own scriptures. God does not simply "allow" slavery like he "allowed" divorce. God explicitly condones, promotes, and commands chattel slavery. It has nothing to do with man's 'hardness of heart". Leviticus 25 explicitly describes and condones chattel slavery.
"It's because of the Bible that we can argue today that slavery is wrong." What complete B.S. We can argue today that slavery is wrong because Christians adopted Humanist principles. NOTHING in the Bible condemns slavery.
"Being made in the image of God was a completely unique idea in the ancient world." LOL! Not even close, buddy. Virtually all ancient Gods were anthropomorphic. As Xenophanes famously noted that if horses could draw, they would draw their gods as horses. Educate yourself, dude.
"That is the entire underpinning of the entire Bible. That humans are valuable because of who they are." Nope. Quite the opposite. The Bible literally teaches, through the doctrine of original sin, that we are all so vile as to be deserving of eternal torture merely for the act of being born.
Nope. Saying that Man was created in God's image in no way asserts that man has inherent dignity or value. You are simply reading that into the text to obscure its outright assertions that people do not have inherent dignity, and people do not have equal value. That is not what the phrase "in the image of God meant." Either Bowen or Davis have some videos on the meaning of that phrase, and it literally meant that men were in the physical image of God. Not that we were in any greater way like God. Not that man had any inherent value.
"Their argument is that because the Bible does not condemn slavery, that means the Bible is endorsing slavery." Nope. You are lying. That is not their argument. Their argument is that the Bible explicitly condones, endorses, and commands slavery. Since you apparently have read Dr. Bowen's book, and listened to both Davis and O'Connor, I have to assume that you are aware of this and are just lying to your flock. Shame on you.
"When did the Moral relativists get to say this is what objective morality is?" Seems you should be able to answer that question yourself, as Christian morality is also relatvist. In fact, any morality based upon a God is, by definition, subjective rather than objective.
Yes. The Bible explicitly endorsees slavery. Many times.
Leviticus 25 explicitly describes and condones chattel slavery. 46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour." This is the Word of the Lord.

It’s so nice to see someone on RUclips saying real Christian sentiment. I’m so tired of those who judge and say who is out who n isn’t really a Christian! Jesus wants us to come to him as we are ! Ty brother in Christ!
Amen brother, Honor and Glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May the lost find and cling to his abundant Mercy and Grace.
Let this be the sign to unify all Faiths and throw away division, the scriptures have been fulfilled, the Son of Man has returned unto us. The return of the Messiah has happened. Amen.
Coming back to listen to this one, it’s great
What happens next? Well lots of people were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ under the organization of the Apostles. Missionaries were sent out and local leaders were called and set apart by the Apostles for the next 3 to 7 decades until almost all the Apostles were killed, then for almost two thousand years the church fell away and strayed from the gospel. The Church was and is a hierarchical organization with Apostles and other officers organized by Christ with authority to perform the necessary saving ordinances. Check Ephesians 5.
