Solar Powered Window A/C - Fully Off Grid!
I’ve gone ahead and used three 100w solar panels to charge three 100ah Renogy Gel Batteries that run power through a three thousand wt sine wave inverter that runs my eight thousand BTU window AC. I am not a professional or expert in any way, but that's what makes this so awesome, it means anyone can do this!
Items I have Used:
Three 100w Solar Panels (Random)
Three Renogy 12V 100AH - amzn.to/3K8gFMx
One Renogy 60A 12V MPPT Solar Charge - amzn.to/3uT1cK6
3000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter - amzn.to/3u7YBg1

    If you are using more electricity in the daytime than at night, you need more panels, not more batteries.

  • @johnwyman6126

    I suggest to people that one of the first things that they should get is a plug in energy monitor. Last I checked they were around $20 to $30. I got a couple straight from China for a little less. With this, they are able to plug it into the wall, then plug an appliance into it, and it will measure the electricity the appliance uses in real-time and also over time. If you had one of these, you would see that your air conditioner uses approximately 500 Watts while the compressor is running. You would also see how much it uses in a 24 hour period. With this solid information you would be able to size your system appropriately. A word of warning though. Once you start using free electricity, and you realize you can now be free from electric bills, you can become addicted quickly where you keep needing more, and more until you are powering your whole house and electric vehicle with it. For this reason, I also tell people to think it through and plan for expansion wherever possible. Also, try to purchase products that you would use on the finished system. For example, instead of buying a couple of 50 W panels that you would only use while your system is growing, buy 200 Watt or more panels which are made for a more full-sized system. You'll still be using the full size panels 30 or more years from now. Have fun in your journey, and enjoy the addiction!

    300 watt solar panel isn't charging your battery fast enough to keep up with the draw from the AC, that's why you need 3 batteries.. up your solar panel to 600+ watt and you can run all day with just 1 battery.

    So glad you mentioned the size issue . I just ordered a large and I barley fit into it. I mean that was a small opening for anyone to put there head through . It was so tight I almost had a panic attack wondering if I could get it off before it choked me out and made me faint . Now I have to deal with a return and wait . I just ordered a 2 x so I hope it is big enough . great video though thanks

    You need a need a fuse on the battery and the solar in & out. Shorter battery cables would be better and you dont want the pos & negative battery cables coming off the same battery in the parallel chain

    • @derekwaltman6
      @derekwaltman6 5 месяцев назад

      What size fuse is recommended

    • @grindychum
      @grindychum 5 месяцев назад

      @derekwaltman6 If you have a 100ah battery and plan to draw upwards of 100A - 100A fuse and 2 AWG wire. The fuse for the solar controller will be the max your charge controller is.

  • @SteveJones-dr9lz
    @SteveJones-dr9lz 7 месяцев назад

    With your three batteries wired in parallel you need to move one of the cables supplying the inverter to the third battery. In your present setup you are taking power primarily from just one battery and that is NOT good for the "health" of your battery bank.

It charged my power station at 333 watts an hour… as the 5000 btu Frigidaire ran, the power station was getting recharged by the xzny 24v 100 amp battery,,, worked really good and those frigidaires are strong… that was running it max too

  • @digitaljon1109
    @digitaljon1109 Год назад

    I want to set one of these up. I would be using a 5,000 BTU AC, which is about 500 Watts. And the space is very large, so the compressor likely would not shut off. So a constant 500 Watt load. I am thinking of getting 4, 250 Watt solar panels, to run the AC during the day while charging the batteries, then using the batteries at night to run the AC all night. How big/many batteries do you think I need to do that?

    • @andygarcia8220
      @andygarcia8220 Год назад

      From what little research I have done I want to build a 500 watt system for a 5000 btu window ac. Good build with no problems would be, 400-500 watts of solar and about 300Ah worth of battery storage. But that is for a 24volt system... I live in Arizona so that is why i have those numbers. But if you live where it is cloudy and not very sunny.. maybe bump up to 800 watts of solar 400-500Ah battery... But again this is just with what little research I did, I am definitely no expert at this stuff

The most expensive items out of my set up are my batteries, hands down. I wouldn't say it was easy per say, but I was in the same boat. I had zero knowledge going in, but there is so much out on RUclips and Redditt that you can make it happen! Just remember to be careful since it's electricity!

    Solar Tip; You can steplessly dim down a bulge and all other hungry electricity consumers with a 5000W dimmer (7, EUR). I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos about it on my channel ruclips.net/video/eC2olbCBhh0/видео.html The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because extreme current peaks no longer arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices...
