Hi, I'm Chris. I'm an archaeologist with a focus on Late Antique religion and Philosophy. I'm currently pursuing a Masters in Egyptology & Middle Eastern Heritage at UCL. My research interests are around the archaeology of magic, Mediterranean religion and the antiquities trade in the Middle East, especially the reception & exchange of religious texts.
Welcome to my RUclips channel. I talk about archaeological theory and practice, and ways of approaching magic in the material record. I am also prone to discuss Iamblichean theurgy & philosophy as well as theoretical approaches to the study of esotericism. I take special notice of Neoplatonism & Hermetism and make content relating to these currents using academic material.
I hope to make education on these topics accessible and informative to help give people a sense of structure and depth in their spiritual practice.

Death & Burial in Ancient Greece | Greek Archaeology Episode 22
In this finale episode, I'm covering an aspect of Greek religious culture that has gotten a lot of attention in recent years; the archaeology of death and burial. I will primarily focus on funerals and burial customs while referring to Arnold Van Gennep's tripartite theory of liminality and rites of passage, with reference to Prothesis, Ekphora & Internment.
I will also explore the iconic Shaft Graves at Mycenae to help us understand early Mycenaean society, power dynamics, and the significance of the rich child burials. I conclude with a discussion of analyzing ancient DNA and isotopic data, and how these methods help us understand diet, social status, and migration patterns.

Greek Religious Sanctuaries | Greek Archaeology Episode 21

This week I'm continuing our discussion of ancient Greek religion and exploring the various kinds of sanctuaries across the Aegean. Whether they be Civic, Extra Urban or Panhellenic, sanctuaries formed a cultic and political foundation to the Greek world. I begin by examining the unique Graeco-Egyptian site of Naukratis, where Greek settlers forged a unified identity as Hellenes, before explori...

I've been excited to do these next few episodes! This week we're starting a three part series on the archaeology of Greek religion. Here I give a general overview of how we approach religion in archaeological contexts, and some of the pitfalls and challenges we often face. This episode especially examines the evolution of religious expression from the Bronze Age through the Classical period, fo...
An Archaeology of Democracy | Greek Archaeology Episode 19

This week I discuss what archaeology can tell us about how democracy was practiced in ancient Athens, its origins and social implications. By comparing and contrasting how Athenian democracy functioned, where free citizens held direct power through institutions like the Ekklesia, Boule, and Areopagus, we can also explore the unique governance of Sparta, characterized by its dual kingship, Gerou...

This week I explore the famous citizen-soldiers of the Greek city-states, the Hoplites, and what they tell us about the social mobility. I discuss the infamous phalanx formation, and how it ideologically embodies Athenian notions of community support before addressing some of the weaknesses it may pose in actual combat. l also examine the economic and social implications of Hoplite warfare, par...
Power, Equality & Government | Greek Archaeology Episode 17

This week I'm back talking about the nature of power & equality in the ancient Greek world. While Athens is often cited as the forerunner of democracy, Greece had numerous power dynamics that can be seen in the archaeological record, all of which came with their own consequences. Here I chart the different power structures and political models from Minoan egalitarianism, the Mycenaean Wanax to ...
How the Greeks Colonised Italy | Greek Archaeology Episode 16

This week, after looking at the Phoenicians' expansion East, we turn our attention to the Western colonisation effort of Magna Graecia. I discuss the processes through which Greek colonisation of Italy occured, and unpack some of the challenges and misconceptions around the process. The Greek's own conception of how and why they formed Apoikia and Emporions are riddled with political propaganda...
Rethinking the Phoenician World | Greek Archaeology Episode 15

As we explore the theme of multiculturalism and interconnectivity in the Aegean world more, it is inevitable that I discuss the Phoenicians. These enigmatic Levantine people have suffered under the caricatures that Homer painted of them as maritime trinket traders, a view that remained popular even into the early 21st century. In this episode I unpack what we know of the Phoenicians: who they w...

Having finished a chronological overview, I'm turning to a more thematic approach in this series. In this episode I discuss the topic of multiculturalism and diversity in the ancient Greek world, but most of all the sheer interconnectivity of it. The Greek world in its totality spread from the South East coast of Iberia to regions beyond the Black Sea and even to Afghanistan. I touch of the Aeg...
Religious and Cultural Reform in Roman Greece | Greek Archaeology Episode 13
Просмотров 3315 месяцев назад
As we reach the end of the Hellenistic Period, and the decline of the Successor Kingdoms, the new power of the Romans rose in the West, eventually subsuming Greece under the Roman provincial name of Achaia. Prior to that though, I want to explore the interaction between Late Hellenistic kingdoms and indigenous Eastern communities, and what that can tell us about ideas of "Greekness". Notably, s...

As we move away from the Classical Polis, we enter the reign of the Hellenistic and Successor Kingdoms brought about by the radical changes instituted by Philip of Macedon & Alexander the Great. In this episode I explore the archaeology of the Hellenistic Period, and question some of our assumptions around exactly how we define it. Using case studies like Lofkënd & Pella I give an overview of t...

As we move into the late Archaic & Early Classical Period, before we reach the heights of Athenian Democracy, we enter the relatively short-lived Age of Tyrants, a pivitol and volatile era in Greece's hstory. In this episode I discuss the nature of Tyranny, and some of the evidence we have for early Tyrants' construction projects at places like Samos. Through this, we can see their influence on...

Good interview , Julian well engaged with the process and giving thoughtful responses that make sense . I’ve always had a problem with ‘ chaos magic ‘ which I put down to a generational thing as by the time liber null was about I already had a Baphometic temple in London where psy drugs was a large part of our activities , ’78 was the year I discovered the synergy between tryptamines and MAOI . exiting times that made liber null seem by the by . My younger friends , now perhaps in their forties place great store in Chaos Magic however . I have a Chaos machine , an electronic devise that not only generates chaos but can make it visual and audible . Useful for understanding its nature . Thanks .
"Tul" (or trul) = "magic / magical / illusory " "Pa" = Person There are no mentions of "Tulpa" or "Tulpas" in any of the Tibetan Buddhist texts or Tantras I have. Nor have they been discussed any teaching I've had from a Tibetan Lama or Geshe. I've never thought of asking directly about it but I will to get an authorized view on this. I have read David Neel's book, twice. Years before I studied Tibetan Buddhism and Bon directly with Tibetan teachers . I'm not sure where David Neel got this Tulpa practice from. It seems like an obscure, archaic "Tantric" type of old religion "rite" whose function even David Neel doesn't seem to give any information about. There are all kinds of visualizations in Tantric Buddhist Meditation, however none of them are intended to create a "Tulpa". The word doesn't appear I any tantric sadhana that I know of. Tibet has a vast array of old religions that mixed Buddhist / Bon practices with their regional folk practices. I think this is where she may have picked this up, if it did indeed occur.

Is there a difference on the time table of manifestation between the Wiccan “raising energy” version and the Trad Witch “appeal to spirit and let it go”method?
Hello, greetings, where I can get the further lectures/webinard of this series?
The Phoenician Script is Hellenic. Phoenicians were Hellenes, aka Greeks.
Fascinating stuff altogether.. English Theosophist G.A. Farthing elucidates a lot of this material in his book Deity, Cosmos and Man which I totally recommend. I think there's a whole world of experience that folk can encounter when using these materials in a sort of 'theurgic' context. Receiving guidance from Masters of Wisdom on the inner planes is a practice I'd like to master..
Excellent stuff

42:49 I’ve heard that when people start to doubt their own identity they start to get very territorial and authoritarian. It would be very helpful to know how to prevent this and to get rid of it when it shows up because it showing up all over the goddamn place.
If I understand your question correctly... I think it's natural that Human beings want to control, and the less in control they feel the more they try to exert control. That can often manifest as authoritarianism. In terms of cultural appropriation, there's a difference between territorialism and being a gatekeeper. Gatekeeping spiritual traditions to being only accesible to the trained is not a bad bad thing, because often times ons develop in such a way that the core teachings are maintained by specialists who have the deep training and initiation to safely handle them. Electricians are trained to have the knowledge how to hold and work with electrical current, untrained people often die because they don't know what they're doing. The same thing is true for spiritual traditions... the spiritual specialists are trained to be able to handle spirituyal currents that could fuck someone up who doesn't know what they're doing. The answer to that isn't teaching everyone these specialized skills because we all don't need to know how to be an electrician, we just need it to run our everyday lives. Where people become territorial is when they don't have the knowledge in the first place but want people to think they do... which leads us down different rabbit holes.
Love your consistency and the intricacy of your content

I actually think it’s important to put the planet on the AC or MC but the day and hour are less important. The aspects and overall chart are way more important and all planets need to be taken in consideration. The moon should also be waxing for hood works and waning for things to be removed or evil works. Looking only at day and hour is for those people who are too lazy to learn astrology bc it’s very complex. The part of fortune is equally important when choosing a date
Happy I found your channel. You explain many things I have perceived myself and you explain them in a way that it’s easily understood. Yes, the universe is a living being but it also oppresses higher consciousness in a need to survive. Many aren’t aware of that but if you step out of line here and become a so-called Jesus figure or enlightened, it will attack you. This is literally because you threaten the natural order which is based on birth, destruction and decay.
This is absolutely brilliant! 👏🏼 I had an interesting thought, a blind person, even though they can't physically see the room around them, creates a mental map of the room in their mind, so there is an 'egregore' of the room existing in the non-material realm of their thoughts.... it makes me wonder, what could it possibly look like? 🤔
probably similar to digital scans if I had to imagine without context.
Black Athena 😅😅😅😂 yet we know sumeria, vinca varna, gobekli tepe , and the Scythians are older than Egypt… not to mention the Venus statues , the first gold burial, domesticated cows and horses , and the chariots to utalize them all found by the Black Sea in Europe! Herecles is a son of zues and a Scythian woman! … it’s literally all over their vases! Civilization came into Africa from Europe and humans came out of Africa … hence Ethiopia is the mother land and Germany/the steppe of Ukraine and Russia are considered the father land … only reason there aren’t building left is because they were either made out of wood or temporary structures and mostly lived in caravans similar to Bedouins of the desert… except Scythians were aryans (original caucadians) who the original Jews split off from at the Black Sea and came down as Sumerians at first (southern aryans) Abraham came from sumeria and sumeria said civilization flowed down the Tigris and eurohretes from the Black Sea of Europe.. not Africa my friends

For those that wish to meet a god in person, there is a life potion to do so. Ayahuasca is a gate way to the spiritual realm. It is a potion. You can literally meet Mother Earth (they call her Mother Ayahuasca but its the spirit of the earth). A formless female presence. Highly recommended for those wishing to expand their practice.
