    Ravenous is a hidden GEM! I love that movie. Saw it when it came out, I was only 14 years old, so it kinda left an impression. 😅 But in a good way. I ADORE the musical score....

    5:21 what is she asking here "very sort of MALE in the focus ..." ? what does she mean ? there are too MUCH males in the movie ? Set in 1800s USA in a military FORT ?!?! Are you kidding me ???? And why is Carlyle have "to think about it "??!?!

    I just rewatched this a few nights ago. I can't say it's a good movie to be honest. Some of the lighting, dialogue, flow, editing are just 'TV Movie' feeling. However the performances by the ensemble cast and absolutely the soundtrack endear it to me and it's one of my favorite maybe not good movies movies ever.

    One of the most telling details that Fox didn't GAFF about this film: no one bothered to send even a small film crew to document the Nyman/Albarn recording sessions. There are stills, yes, but...this was a meeting of the minds that will quite frankly NEVER happen again...and nobody wanted to preserve it for posterity??? SMGDH. At least there IS the soundtrack.

    Jesus mfng Christ! Here's a terrific actor (Carlyle) talking about the masterpiece of a movie that is Antonia Bird's Ravenous, and this idiot of an interviewer just had to come up with some "homoeroticism" that I personally have never noticed in this film, although I watched it thousands of times. DO YOU SICK F*CKS ALWAYS HAVE TO GAY THINGS UP?WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

    • @jorabohem
      @jorabohem 5 лет назад

      Ummm..dude, Robert Carlyle in this very video here full on admitted this to be his intention with the character Ives. He doesn't just want to eat Boyd...he wants to HAVE him as well. Like, if that makes you uncomfortable whatever, but he said what he said. Indisputable I'm afraid.

    • @ragrag5470
      @ragrag5470 3 года назад

      @@jorabohem My dear, let's not pretend as if Robert Carlyle had any other choice but saying, "Yes, of course. That's what it meant!" No one wants to get canceled and be thrown out of their profession.He would be, had he not answered correctly. We all know that. The interviewers have an agenda of making the rainbow shine everywhere. That man has a family to take care of. All he could do was laugh, as if someone just told him a joke. Nothing makes ME uncomfortable. Everyone has the right to live the way they want to. But this particular movie has nothing to do with homosexuality. Unless, of course, an idiot who gets paid for nothing else but asking actors potentially career-harming questions, decides otherwise.

      Whenever I say the word 'cooking' - I'm American so I'm terrible at Scottish accents - I think of Robert Carlyle saying this line. His line deliveries are legendary in my book. The Beach is another film where he delivers lines that'll stick with me forever. "The big chunky Charlie"

    this was a weird ass movie.. but he's right, there were moments that really stood out.. to the point where i can't think of ANY movie that had those kinds of crazy moments that burrowed into my brain and pop up every now and again. almost like a kind of fever dream. so even though i never really *really* loved the movie, i find myself watching it every now and again because of its uniqueness. if a movie can be weird and crazy, that's often much more interesting to me than a lot of the "normal" movies out there. i like movies that you leave the theater going "wtf was that" but you can't stop thinking about it..

  • @Jokaanan

    This is my #1 favourite film. No joke. I seriously think it's the best movie ever made. Everything Bobby said about how beautiful, transcendent, and fun it is as "pure film" - is all true. Rest in power Antonia, you were brilliant. It also made me cry a bit to hear him confirm the film's homoeroticism as intentional @4:48 (even though it obviously is, but people tend to be blind to gay themes. It's especially obvious if you've listened to the commentary. Sorry the studio edited out your blood-licking mini-orgasm scene, Bobby.)

      Oh fuck off ^

    • @Jokaanan
      @Jokaanan 7 лет назад

      @honeyguts All of this just makes it even cooler that you have a badass Ravenous tattoo. This doesn't ruin the thing you love! It was there all along. It's just another layer of meaning and storytelling. It's crucial to the ending.... (spoilers ahead)... ... Right before Boyd pushes Ives into the bear trap, they look like they're about to kiss. That's not an accident. Boyd finally defeats Ives by pretending he is about to give in to him, both morally and carnally, which is why Ives lets Boyd push him to the ground. Ives says "that was... sneaky...." (ad-libbed by Robert Carlyle), acknowledging that Boyd defeated Ives by tempting Ives' desire for him. Then we pan out into that gorgeous painting-like shot of their corpses(?) lying in a fucked-up Romeo and Juliet cannibal embrace. Ives' attraction to Boyd was his weakness - like Hart says, "it's lonely being a cannibal".

    • @Jokaanan
      @Jokaanan 5 лет назад

      @@nolween100 So, at 4:48... Interviewer: "And then, this sort of homoeroticism in the end..." Carlyle: "Yeah, oh yeah. What of that." (raises eyebrows, laughs) Interviewer: "... and through...(indecipherable). There's a lot of that. Is that... were you quite... were you talking about that? Or..." Carlyle: "So I certainly doubt that Ives(?)..." (laughs and starts over) "I was looking at that from the very beginning. I thought, oh he's not just wantin' to eat Guy Pearce, he's gonna HAVE Guy Pearce at the same time."
