Off topic, but I have next week off and am going to hit up the buffalo trace distillery on a day trip, which of the bourbons should I target? Since they only sell one a day, I was just going to pick either the Blanton's or eagle rare days. Is blanton's that different that it's worth it? It's a 3 or so hour trip for me.

You inspired a pour of Nikka Whisky From the Barrel, and it starts off like a sweet, smoky Scotch, and then I get a cereal taste like Irish whisky, but also that kind of sweet dustiness of a library full of old books. I could definitely read it as a stale cracker box. I know highballs are really popular there, and some Japanese whisky is blended specifically to work well in highballs - maybe this taste plays nice in cocktails.

I just bought a bottle yesterday and tried it neat, it was okay. Then I made an old fashioned with it and it was actually pretty damn good, so for a mixer YES.

There's a high west bottle that I just hate, and as a utahn, I feel very awkward for not liking all the high west offerings.

I had some, and it was good. Price would have to drop to become a regular buy.

I’ve heard before, I think from the Whiskey Vault dudes, that a buttered popcorn flavor on whiskey can happen when cuts from the still are too wide. That Kaigan might contain whiskey who’s makers should’ve been a bit more selective with their cuts

Haven’t found a rice whiskey I enjoy yet, but this sounds pretty tasty. Might have to go find one.

Super proud of this local whiskey of mine. Love what they put out. I was one of the lucky few to have their first ever single barrel (not bottled at cask strength because they didn't have those nice deep blue labels created yet). A local bourbon group got with JTM and let us have the first single and it was lights out. Top 3 bottles of all time. Finished it earlier this year. T/DV, if you want a cask strength bottle I can snag a bottle next time my grocery does their next single barrel pick. Not sure how you would want to work it out but I am glad to help out.

I’ve had a few different offerings from them now and all the higher proof ones have been fantastic.

As a Louisianan, I’m proud of what JT Meleck is producing. I’ve had numerous Single Barrels, and recently picked up their 6+ year.

One bottle I'm actually looking for will most likely be a steelbach purchase for me as this doesn't come close to my area. Have yet to see a bad review on this brand. 🥃🥃🥃

In a recent Whiskey Tribe video, Sagamore have stated that they’ve recently fully transitioned to using all their own distillate and are no longer sourcing. Comparing an older bottle to a newer one might make for an interesting video.

Given what I’ve had of Sagamore and what I’ve heard of Overholt, I’d be happy to try the latter but Sagamore is what I’ll try to acquire for my own shelf.
