    I read .75 to 1 joule is best for pigs and I'm curious how many joules is your fence?

      @kilipoheikekanilehua4049 5 дней назад

      The one I have now is 1.2 joules. Much more powerful then the one I had when I made this video. I upgraded because I didn't want to always be cleaning the wire of weeds.

    2 things... did you put a pre-slope under the pan? ditch the grids so you're not locked into the height of your mud bed... it's not that hard to do a mud bed. You're over complicating this. just make your mud bed thickness to the height needed for the drain...

      Yeah, it was the first shower I ever did. quick pitch made it easier to get the slope right and yes, there is s slope under the liner. Thanks for watching!

    Personally I would cut the ring in two, cut my slope guides a little shorter, and use a plastic bag to dam up the openings (created from separating the two "c" sections of ring). With a fairly thick mud mix you can keep it in the form.

    Why bother dealing with any of this? Buy a Schluter kit. Done. Simple. Just follow the instructions and get a warranty. No unknowns or worries.

    • @kilipoheikekanilehua4049
      @kilipoheikekanilehua4049 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment. I can't remember specifically why i went with the quick pitch system over Schluter but I suspect it was because of product availability. This is an oversized shower. I live in Hawaii. No local supply houses carry large scluter kits. Amazon doesn't ship the larger kits here. Home Depot doesn't either. I'm not sure about Lowes, but the nearest one is 4 hours round trip so I'm not doing that unless I have to. If there's an online retailer for it UPS shipping is outrageous to Hawaii. So I went with what I could get.

      Thank you. Of course, i must have jinxed myself. Last night we had the first pig on the property since installing the fence. Tore up one of our pineapple patches pretty bad. We figure it came in from the area that doesn't have a wire. Guess I'll be extending it another 100 ft or so.

    • @shamarcamargo1108
      @shamarcamargo1108 9 месяцев назад

      @@kilipoheikekanilehua4049 well it usually takes a bit of time to get to all our projects and such a huge patch can be challenging to cover. Personally I’m considering raised beds around my Ohia trees using stacked rocks. I realize that the bigger pigs might still be able too get up so I’m going to have to guesstimate how high is high enough. Another thing, have you ever tried just putting shock wire around smaller islands of your plantings? Or is this too much work??

    • @kilipoheikekanilehua4049
      @kilipoheikekanilehua4049 9 месяцев назад

      @shamarcamargo1108 we've had good luck with stacked rock walls. 16 inch high seems to mostly work. Though we raised one of the break-in points to 24 inches this last weekend. I didn't consider fencing just the garden beds. It would be more work and it would make working around the beds more difficult. The fence is pretty painful if you get zapped. Also, pigs can do real damage to trees (like Ohia) so protecting your whole property is beneficial. I did install a side shootof electric fence around my neighbors raised bed. It seems to keep the pigs out of her garden.

    • @kilipoheikekanilehua4049
      @kilipoheikekanilehua4049 Год назад

      These plastic pieces don't support anything. They are just guides to get the floor pitch right. After the plastic is cut away to accommodate the drain, the entire drain is bedded in mud and thin set. It's these cementicious materials that support the drain.
