Mountain Biking the White Rim in a Day
The White Rim Trail is an epic road that travels through the most remote aspects of the Island in the Sky District in Canyonlands National Park. In April of 2024, we decided to attempt to mountain bike the entire 102 mile trail in one day (WRIAD). Our ride took over 12 hours and here is how it went.

Thanks for sharing! This looks like an amazing trip would love to do this!
Really good trail - nice climb with great views up top - the descent is so good....
You look good 😊
Bad ass!
Great job and fun video. I, too, (like some below) rode the entire White Rim with some buddies the end of March 2012. Very gratifying. We were fortunate to have a support vehicle. You guys rocked it and were self-supported. Thanks for posting.
@@mtb4ever285 thanks for watching and exciting to hear you had a similar adventure a few years back!
What was your training like for this? Any particular plan, or was it just “ride a lot all the time”?
Training was lightly structured the 8 weeks leading up to this. I live an active lifestyle so did a lot of snowboarding and split boarding throughout the winter. About 8 weeks out, I aimed to do 3+ rides per weeks, gradually increasing the workload to 8-10 hours of cycling weekly. Main focus was zone 2 / steady rides... though the longest I rode in prep for this day was ~5 hours. The other goal of this was to retrain my gut to eat a lot of carbs during the ride. That said, I tried to make all of my riding fun and didn't take this suuuuper seriously. In fact, we did a 2 hour MTB ride at Navajo Rocks the day prior. Probably would have gone a bit faster had we trained more and rested up before this.... but was ultimately going more for the experience and a fun time rather than a fast time. Thanks for watching!
Epic
Honestly one of the best bikepacking videos I’ve seen so far.
Thanks for watching!
Xcelent info for the Fall, and bet beers never tasted better. Thanks man!
Excellent, thanks for sharing this, brings back some good memories from a similar ride in 2002
I attest that the memory of this ride lasts a lifetime. I did it in 1995 and this video brought back the thrill.
wow , beautiful .... spring time would be perfect time
You guys killed it! you looked way better at the end than i did, when i did it. Lol, i just remember crawling in the back of my truck and laying down, not realizing how much time went by. I went to city market afterward, and ate a whole watermelon .. good times. anyway after doing it a few times, i said i would never do it again... but for some reason this video popped up, and now i am thinking about it again. once again awesome job guys!
A whole watermelon!!! 😂 haha, glad to hear this video brought you some inspiration
Congrats, gents...that was incredible. Great to see this and its amazing views. Nice content as always, Luke!!
Awesome video!
Impressive!
Never do this when people expect you to arrive 2 hours ago. I've done it twice in one day. The first time I said I would never do it again and three days later my I told my wife that I feel the need to do it again and she said, "That is why women have more than one child."...I am planning my third time as I approach age 60 with a ride back to Moab.
Haha! Great advice
Another epic adventure, another great video!
After having done the koko, riding from Moab to Loma is much better! You get the biggest climbs out of the way, while you're fresh. If you ride to Moab, you have all that and pretty techy riding at the end of the trip-when you are already exhausted.
Big thanks for the take along. Superb editing.
Awesome vid! Mind sharing what bike models you guys were using? (Beyond just the wheel sizes and one being a hard todo?) or at least one of the full suspension bikes you used ?

Great video of an EPIC ride!
Awesome video series!
Awesome video. I really like how you put all of that content together....very well done. 😊 Looks like a really cool bikepacking trip for a bunch of buds to do. Thanks for bringing us along!!!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!
I rode this route (in reverse) on my gravel bike 5 years ago.
Wow! I am very impressed
Great video! Looked like a fun time!
👌 "promo sm"
good idea, i need something like this for travelling to out of town dog events.
Thanks for not having music in the background. You convey the feel of the ride.
Great scenery and terrain, but all of the film cuts (not sure if this is the correct terminology) makes this a very difficult watch.
Very far away from salida
Hi. Your video quality is good. However, the rule of thumb is that people on RUclips will watch a video even if its in poor quality. However, they will not watch a video that has poor quality audio. In the case of this video, the wind noise in the audio makes it unwatchable. I recommend that in the future if you have wind noise in your audio that you either mute that audio and add music and or a voice over. Or, use and external mic with a wind noise diffuser plugged in to your action camera.
List of materials and sizes would be great, maybe a plan of layout too
What fork mount and pannier bag is that on your suspension fork?
Nice I completed the entire CT in 10.5 days and going back in two weeks. to ride from Silverton to Durango as the San Juans are EPIC
Love the way u filmed and told the story. I hope u ride and document the whole CT one day
Incredible, congratz !
Loving the series, planning on riding the trail next year. Something I haven’t heard much about in videos on RUclips about the trail is Bears. Are they common on the trail? What precautions should someone take when camping overnight, choosing camping spots etc
Thanks for watching! There are definitely bears in Colorado and in this area, though I would say they are not widespread and encounters are unlikely. In fact, I have camped over 100 days in Colorado and never encountered one in a camping g scenario. Especially in the San Juan’s when you camp above tree line, encounters become even less likely. That said, the biggest concern with bears should be based on your food / odors. Not just for bears, but squirrels rodents etc… Plan to not have food in your tent / maybe pull up a tree for the night. Also be responsible with any waste (human or otherwise) and follow local regulations. I don’t see any need to pack bear spray / repellents as this adds weight, space and the risk of accidentally discharging… but that is just my take. Hope you have a great trip! The CO trail is epic!
@@cobikeadventures thanks
I just watched all four videos - that was great!!! Very inspiring, I might go plan another bikepacking trip now …
That must've felt accomplishing being done after that long trail!
Man I’m thinking of doing something like that. I would love going on an adventure/journey across Canada or ,to start small, in my province. My ford escape, just like yours, would be perfect. I don’t know where to start. Maybe planning it would be a good start
Nice job fellas! I was there this fall and ended up (day) riding Molas Pass to Engineer and Blackhawk pass ride also. I’ve done Kennebec Pass numerous times in the past, so I’m looking fwd to seeing your day 4 video. I’ve now watch day 1-3 two times now
Thanks for watching!!
Love the videos, seeing people tackle the CT on full suspension is what I'm after. Hoping to do the same this summer. I'm sorry if I missed it, did you happen to post a gear list for each of you or have one you could send me?

Hope it is a great trip for you! I added my pack list by the bags I used for the trip. Overall I was very satisfied with the weight and Items. The only thing I would maybe change for future trips is a custom frame back and reducing the size of the seat bag to maximize dropper post usage and avoid the occasional rear wheel rubbing.
@@cobikeadventures wow, man, that's above and beyond. I appreciate it. I'm feeling pretty confident about gear from my backpacking days, but I need to sort it out bag specifics. Any chance you could itemize brands and models of bags you use and your thoughts on those? I'm going to have to get crafty, riding a small full suspension frame doesn't leave much for a front triangle bag. Either way, thank you so much for your time.
@@atlmtnbiker I used Ortlieb for my handlebar bag, fork bags and seat bag. 2 small REI top tube bags as well and a small backpack / water bladder that was mostly empty. The only bag I would potentially change is the seat bag which was fairly large / bulky with a dropper post... but have not researched other options to potentially change it to
Nice country side boys.
nice video
Awesome adventure and video, greate views, nice comments. Would be greate to see some of camp activities tho (i am little bit of survival entusiast ;). Days 3,4 are on the way? :)
Thanks you for watching! I’ve been moving slow, but I should have day 3 out later this week!
@@cobikeadventures Thanks for reply, good news :)
Some hard work climbing that elevation! But at least that cuts down on the Skeeter's! How did you guys get away with doing it without the sun blaring on you? Everything looked really green.
When the sun was out it was definitely intense and we did our best to cover up with long sleeves. This summer was extremely wet in Colorado though so about 50% of the time, rain and t storms were the biggest concern. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Amazing colorado, great video!
