All the Bourns I’ve used have been at least 5% above said rating with a smooth loose feel they are great

what is it ? And i know it demagnetizes the pick up that loses power over time ? But what are you doing ? I couldnt tell....forgive my ignorance .

What an incredible resource you are creating, James. Do you have a preferred level or is this just a voicing technique that you know how to use in order to get PAFs to sound a certain way for the player?

Solid state devices are incredibly resilient to EMF. Electromagnets are strong, but the field strength drops exponentially with distance. There shouldn't be anything to worry about with filming at your magnet charger, unless you're trying to conceal manufacturing secrets of course. The channel Veritasium filmed right next to one of the worlds strongest electromagnets and the camera gear/electronic devices were fine. If our phones had magnetic storage it would 100% be a problem. The worst I've seen is the compass app requiring a phone restart after being directly on top of a huge N52 Neo magnet. Interesting subject btw. The work people have done with recreating the sound/feel of old equipment has been amazing in the last 15 years. It can always get better. Speakers are the one place that needs a lot more research imo. Nobody is degaussing new alnico speakers or trying different alloys. Moving parts recreation needs to get better too.

What is the inductance on these 6 pickups ? (since you quote inductance on your website, and short of the resonant frequency and Q factor it's probably the next most useful measurement).

I liked the A set the most. the B set was almost indistinguishable from A, just seemed to sustain a little less. C was my least fav, sounded more scooped

Have you thought about using one of those Guitar-X pickup swap setups? It used to be on those Relish guitars. Somebody bought all their stuff and is selling it as Guitar-X. Anyway. That might be something to look into for your testing rig so you don't have to solder pickups in every time. Just pop em in and out. Anyway. Just a thought 👍

I have a problem and I don't know if you can help me. I have a Boss CE-1 and I noticed a problem with the pedal. It has apparently lost all crunch functionality. When I turn the knob, I only get volume and no longer the saturation that the pedal is so famous for. Have you seen this problem before? Could you guide me on the possible problem?

I don't think Alpha makes a 24mm case, 1/4" fine spline shaft with a 3/8" bushing. If they're out there, it's a custom order. I just looked through Alphas 24mm catalogue on Mouser. I don't think I've ever seen one. Good luck on taking Alpha pots apart without destroying them. Please post a video on it if you do.

I had that drill. Ended up returning. It for a Fuel for $29 on Amazon. Couldn't believe it. The non-fuel was the same price. Yes it's a legit M12 Fuel 1/2 inch drill. No battery. They're like $35 now?

There's some pots on The A that say they're carbon track. Like $3.99 each. I might buy a couple. The wafers appear to be quite different from CTS, so I'm curious what they actually look like.

I have one of these from 1982 and a ce-2 from 1982 and the ce-1 is so much more lush and warm. I’ve A/B’d the ce-1 with a Waza ce-2 and the vibrato setting on the Waza was virtually identical to the ce-1 with zero noise.

Maybe they saw your video on the "brown abr" and didn't want to risk it.

That's too funny. I bet they got burned with a lot of stock and just refuse to work with other manufacturers/builders. Understandable, but kinda silly for a single paid up front order. I want one of their ABR-1's.

I use and resharpen the same exacto blades. A pack like that will last me a year. I think they use the same steel as shaving razors because that steel gets hair whitling sharp. I love those buttons!! They would look amazing my my R9.

I've started using curved scalpel blades instead of those with the tiny point. I find I get more blade down with a scalpel blade versus the tiny point on an exacto blade. It's easy to mess up when using an exacto because of the tiny point, IME.

You could remove a handlebar and look from there too.

The taper graph looks good for these. I hate the dead zone on CTS pots. 0 to 2 is off no matter the taper or value. If these don't do that, Ill give them a shot. $25 a set of 4 shipped aint bad.

Long ago I bought Alpha full size pots for my Les Paul. They have great taper and almost 550K on all of them. But they were very tight. These days I tried some WD40 to smooth the grease inside them and worked like a charm. Now they are much more smother. Only hard jobe is that I had to ream the wood on the guitar for them to fit properly, as they´re larger.

I remember seeing these online a few months ago. Pretty sure I identified them as Alpha pots even back then because the wafer looked the same and so did some other details. 👌

That's why I order multiple pots from TAOT when I order CTS pots on "The Amazon Rainforest". I can pick the highest readings and return the rest for free with no questions asked 👌

Hey man, just found your channel. Loving the videos! On the second hole drilled into that Ibanez pedal, I wonder if this was done with the intention of installing a second input? Although it’s in a wierd spot. Awesome catch on that Small Clone. Most of them use the MN3007 BBD but they made it so they could swap the chip for the SAD1024 depending on stock availability I’d imagine. Those versions are extremely rare and usually fetch over 1000$. Supposedly that is the version Kurt used on Nevermind, although he had quite a few of them. To me, either version sounds identical (at least for the original 70s/80s run) and will get you that sound. The reissues sound a bit different (as do all the EHX reissues but I’m sure you’re aware of that). I’ve got an original Clone Theory, MN3007 Chorus/Flange version. I can attest to their noise floor, a lot of hiss but they sound pretty great! Whoever had mine previously had installed a DIY noise gate but we had to remove it as it was causing issues.They’re not the same as the Small Clone, definitely two different flavours of chorus.

The volume and tone settings at 01:12 seems completely different to the settings at 01:15? Same goes to 01:25 vs 01:27 as well? Are those setting changes in the comparison intended to compensate the tonal differences?

There's a guy local to me thats had a bunch of Cetralab pots and stuff for sale for a long time but it seems like nobody buys the stuff on Reverb. He wants like $200 for a single Centralab pot 🤷🤦 $400 for a Stackpole. $150 for a CTS pot. The place is Don's Vintage Guitar Parts. He has multimeters in his pics of pots. He's been selling this stuff since 2020 and nobody seems to be buying it. He's had over 500 listings for as long as I've known of his store. Always the same, super high prices.

I got pot grease from whoever makes the oem stuff for CTS. Nye Lubricants or something? I posted about it on MLP, then Got promptly banned by power tripping douche canoes with attitudes over literally nothing. Thank God for VPN's.
