There's many expats Facebook groups in Cairo, and all of them are super helpful I recommend everyone before coming to Egypt to visit those groups and ask for tips. I have been in Egypt for 8 years everything you said is accurate, but we the foreigners have our community and avoid communication with those kind of people, it is much better to ignore and never answer them back or else they won't leave you alone, also a few words in Arabic will save you from the headache as they will think that you're already living in Egypt not a tourist. A good guide makes a huge difference

I think this museum should be moved to a new location by now. At any rate, there was this guy sitting on a bench in the back side of the chamber. His function was to make sure nobody videos that room. Well, I sat down beside him and as he, started yelling at people "No video, No video" . I guess he must got tired of me doing his job, he turns to me and says " OK, you go, make the video, but do it quick!" So I did hehe. Afterwards slipped him a $20 - which initially he didn't want to take, but 10 sec later he did appreciate it. Thanks for your comments 👍

Well, the way I see it, everybody in some way has to satisfy their needs. When one encounters hard times everything is on the table. I don't blame people for being dishonest as I may not know what they are going through. In desperate times we tend to resort to desperate actions - no matter where or what culture. It is up to us to be aware and not get rolled over.

Don’t go to Egypt unless you go on a tour, people in Egypt fake being friendly but don’t trust them, they just want to manipulate you into doing what they want, they will do anything to get your money! It was a horrible experience having to deal with them. Luckily I was on a private tour and they took care of us. People are very deceptive and abusive. I was there 6 years ago and yes the vendors are absurd, they make the trip hell with their constant barrage of buy, buy, buy. If you show the least interest in anything they clamp on you like a remora and make experience a walking hell. they follow you for hundreds of feet yelling as if you owe them your life as well as your money. As an Architect I have always wanted to see the pyramids and such but the experience left me cold. Save your money and just buy a National Geographic instead. I expected it so the fact it is dirty and dusty and hot but without our great guide it would have been an absolute disaster. I was accosted at Saqqara and had my scarf ripped from my head and some guy tried to steal my wallet.

For some reason they don't allow videos in the pyramids - not sure why, perhaps there is another fee they want to collect. Photos are okay. You cannot take a camera inside, however phone is okay. In Luxor on the other hand, they let you take both photos and video, but flash or camera lights are not permitted.
