If you drive to the stop sign at the top of the hill and turn right on High Falls, go four houses down you come to the house that I have lived in for 25 years. I have driven through this section of S. McDonough Road thousands of times. In places, the trees bent over the road like a canopy. The ride down this little section always made me feel like I was almost home. I never saw the houses up off the side of the road until now. They were hidden by the trees. We were home during the tornado, but we were able to get out afterward and go to friends in Pike county.. When we returned home the next day, we tried to go the usual way up South McDonough Road. When we got to the intersection and saw that the road was blocked off and then looked up the road and saw all those trees down, I burst in tears. I think that was the moment that I realized how really fortunate we were to be alive. My community will never look the same. I wish there was video of the road before the tornado. Unless you’ve been down this road, you will never believe the huge difference. It was like a bomb had gone off.
