How To Remove Old Carpet Tack Strips From Concrete Floors
When it's time to remove carpet tack strips from a concrete floor, it can seem pretty easy when watching someone else, but when you actually do it, it can feel challenging. The carpet nails that are fastened down into the concrete very tightly can be a nightmare.

Ok i tried this with a husky "bent 3" chisel scraper stiff" (which i think is over level cheaper than what you have there?) and it couldn't get out some nails, started getting beat up with dings in it. Also the top is plastic and started screwing off. Also a quinn multi purpose (stiff) from harbor freight, which started to die... Maybe my nails are in tougher? :)
Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you. I have a basement that occasionally gets a little water so I’m not replacing carpet that got wet. I’m gonna paint the concrete a cute color and put down a nice area rug that I can pull up when big rains threaten to flood.
Lvp might work too ? :)
Thank you.
Wow! Much better than I did on my own. I'm gonna try YOUR method!
Wrong tool for the job
Put that scraper on a poll. You can do it standing up.
Hammer it? They do have floor scrapers at hd that night work. Or a shovel? :)
Thank you Jonnyz! Very helpful.
Been a long time since I left a comment but I had to in order to say THANK YOU, we struggled for hours getting these out in our first room and anticipated many hours of pain going into the second room. I got a 3" scraper and we knocked it out in 30 minutes using this method and didn't crack any of the tack and didn't have any massive holes to fill. This worked better than a crowbar (we tried everything).
I use a crowbar, but yea. What do you do about concrete chipping from the nails and the holes the nails leave?
Thanks man! This tip saved me allot of time and frustration.
Flat head shovel, done in 20 minutes.
Spade shovel works better cause it has a point to wedge under.
@@brandon10301991by spade shovel do you mean the one with a point at the end/bottom?
Loved this technique! ❤
yea doing it for a weak maybe this system sucks use air hammer
How? Video please? :)
You are too cool
Use a metal scraper a standing one if I seen one of my helpers doing it that way I would fire them
Well, this doesn’t work if they used a sh@#*load of liquid nails.
Thanks for the tip, it was very helpful
