A Day in the Life of an IT Technician: What Can Go wrong
i work as an i.t technician usually for a company that uses a tons of laptop, what i noticed is that manufacturers really skimp out on parts and reparability, its so insane.
It's a way to make money, so you go back to them to repair
@@cringetechnologies i can repair stuff but sometimes like the TPM issue is manufacturer defect. i have to send it because each device requires an authentic tpm. welp wasted e waste. its wild
What would you do to troubleshoot the issue if you didn’t have another PCI?
I would do a firmware update just to see if that resolves the fault, then run the diagnostic report again and see if the problem persists and if it does order the replacement memory
Loving these videos mate, did a month of tech work when I left uni and now I'm 6 months into my Systems Engineer role, learn heaps watching you. Keep it up!
Appreciate it! Congrats on the role glad the videos help
Good stuff keep it up 👍
Appreciate it
why not put remotely managed switches to reboot and manage them from anywhere instead of going to site ?
The switches weren't connecting to the Internet hence the onsite reboot to connect them back to the internet
@@cringetechnologies ohh. Ok thats too bad. When a switch reaches that point I usually replace it with one that just works.
There are the phone company network switches; I was doing them a favor.
@@cringetechnologies Now it makes sense. Keep them happy to give you jobs in the future...
nice video
Thank you
Thanks for your videos and motivation, what is your suggestion in what page can I do the course ? Coursera?
Check out my "A Day in the Life of an IT Technician: How to get a Job as an IT Network Technician" video this covers my recommendations
Great video. Wish you the best.
Thank you! You too!
What if you have difficulties in learning. Can an individual still be an IT technician.
Good question! Yes, I work with special needs schools and provide work experience for more able students who are more than capable of learning basic troubleshooting skills.
@ I see thank you for answering my question. Because I’m a person who has difficulties in learning was worried that I cannot pursue. I’m also not good at scripting either
I think that’s partially the correct answer. A good manager will understand that, but will also ask for evidence that you’re indeed not wasting company time.
What if your manager hasn't got any IT background, a lot of IT jobs are solo roles
This is so true as a IT apprentice working in a trust I'm learning all this its fun but also tiring sometimes its so much growth as well as its rewarding I feel like
Happy New Year!
Same to you!
Happy new year to you and your team, your content is great.
Thank you same to you too
Love the testimonial journey from beginning to present and all the knowledge and experience that came through your journey. Thank you for passing it on to help newbies like myself into the Information Technology field.
Glad you enjoyed it!
im 17 studying to become network engineer any tips ? im very stressed if i will make it do i need to be good at talking ?
Check out my other video, how to get a job in IT, I give advice on what to study and my approach to getting a job
Hi Joel, what is the best way to contact you?
Hi you can DM me on linkedin search for Cringe Technologies
Please make more vidoe and show case CV I work in school as IT Technician and we both do the same thing such as Paxton Entry sign and Google workspace 😊
Just quick question I would like to ask is, if IT technician apprentice fails his apprenticeship. Can he still get into IT in school?
1:36 that's good advice
Mayb non profit get get the experience
Think i am about retire for another i dont I don't want to stop working i like computer about do compAt
I am finishing my ccna course, did you get the certification or just study. Thank you for your inspiring videos.
Thank you very much. I got the certification at the time,
Nice job with the new AP's! School should get a good bang for their buck with those Omada's
Thanks, yes that's the plan
Terminology is Megabits not Megabytes and Gigabits not Gigabytes for networks usually but nice video.
Thanks for catching that! You're correct-network speeds are usually measured in Megabits and Gigabits, not Megabytes and Gigabytes. I’ll strive to be more precise in the future. Appreciate the feedback!
Only just found your channel, Liking the content. Keep up the work 👍 Also I subbed :)
Thank you, much appreciated! Will do!
we use Jamf at our school
Some schools we look after also use Jamf, with LGFL Meraki is free so most schools opt with that MDM
Thank you, IT Denzel
😁
The cable management is interesting…
It's funny; I am so used to visiting sites and seeing patch cabling like this that I get shocked when I come across one that's so tidy.😁
I've done this type of work for 8 years. I worked for compucom and worked with a lot of equipment most would never touch. Though I did like what I did, the pay wasn't it. I pursue software engineering and been doing it for about 2 years. You do meet a lot of cool people in this field and mostly everyone I met was friendly. Your videos really do take me back to those days, lol.
Thanks
So interesting to see this side, I'm Support Desk but I'd love to get hands on more. I've done some server and switch work for my internal company but would love to get more epxerience doing stuff like this. Watching this video is really useful to me as I get an insight how you work as a company, what tasks you do and how you implement technologoies into the existing infrastructure. Subbed 👍
Thanks for sharing!
As an IT Technician who recently joined the school sector, I find this RUclips account incredibly useful for gaining practical insights and improving my skills in educational IT support.
Glad you like the Channel
I needed this ❤
I am glad it help
Nice video
Thanks
Really great video! Though I’d recommend going CIOS first(which is the A+ and Network+ and then get Security+, because there’s a lot of info from Net+ that gets used in Sec+, and not really vice versa.
Are you talking about the CompTIA certs?
@ yes
@@MomoKemonoTTV if I got my Google support IT cert do you think I should still do A+?
any advice for someone who wants to change careers and work as an IT technician? how can someone learn the skills needed for the role?
if you check out another video on my channel 'A Day in the Life of an IT Technician: How to get a Job as an IT Network Technician' I cover that aswell
Thanks for the video. I am interested in starting an IT business here in the U.S. in a couple of years.
Best of luck! any advice you need I am more then happy to help
Please help us to get a job
Help who
😂
@ cringe technologies, can you please talk about the IT infrastructure what that involve
What would you like to know
@cringetechnologies so I am beginning and trying to understand what IT infrastructure does in what fields can they go into. Because I want to specialise in dyslexia to help people with technology. I use technology a lot to help me with my dyslexia day to day in my life
I want to start up my own business in the future specialist in become a life coach & dyslexia specialist
It sounds like you may need to focus more on software solutions that can help you deliver your courses more effectively. Consider looking for applications specifically designed to support course delivery, such as those that streamline content management, enhance student engagement, and facilitate assessments.
RUclips suggested brought me to the channel! As an IT engineer that's recently left schools for the private sector, this is giving me some nostalgia already! Great vids man, gonna binge watch the rest!
Thanks much appreciated,
How long were you in education for?
@@cringetechnologies 7 years from apprentice to senior technician + teaching the primary ICT curriculum 🤯
That's cool we offer teaching of the computing curriculum as well, what made you go to the private sector
@@cringetechnologies lack of growth/progression in the primary school was the main reason really! Everything had to be self taught with no other tech savvy colleagues. I'm at large CSP now and have learnt so many new systems, working practises and currently being put through SDI's service desk analyst course :)
Thanks for this video. I've got my first interview for a for a 1st line helpdesk as an IT Service Desk Analyst next week. It was really useful to me as to how I should be expanding my answers to demonstrate exactly what I how I would something. Also, even I know what DHCP, and DNS are and what they do. Though helps that I am currently studying A+ and doing a Udemy course to learn how to create a Domain server with AD. Using HyperV to practice how to do basic tasks like reste passwords, create users, objects, etc..
Good luck with your interview! I'm glad you found the video useful. Let me know how it goes.
@@cringetechnologies Thank you. Will do.
@@cringetechnologies The interview wasn't a good experience. They were just focussed on why I was changing career, even after saying why, and a career gap rather than my skills. I stopped trying and safe to say I wasn't offered a job. However, last week I had another interview in which the interviewers provided a relaxed experience. They liked me and it was down to me and someone who had helpdesk experience, who got the job. However, they asked to keep my details to contact me for future roles in the coming year.
Sorry for the late reply. The first interview didn't seem serious and felt like they were just wasting your time, but I'm glad you had a better experience the second time around. Did any of the interviews provide you with tasks to test your knowledge?
@@cringetechnologies You don't have anything to apologise for. The second interview I was given a test with questions like what are the missing words/numbers in a sequence and IP addressing. They did also ask me a troubleshooting question about a wifi issue. I've had 3 more interviews since then and one 1st stage interview today. Good news, I've been offered an IT Service Desk and Support Officer role with a local authority from an interview I had on Friday. All the other interviews did ask me technical and troubleshooting questions.
nice video
Thanks for the visit
@@cringetechnologies no problem - love the content it shows a lot of insight into the school side of the i.t industry
Great video joel. Keep up the great work. Question, was windows 8 really a pain in the ass to work with ?Ive heard from a few that it was a nightmare lol that windows 10 to windows 11 is a ballache for alot of corporations. I expect IT technicians to be going through it especially with units that don't have the requirements to run windows 11
Thanks. The migration from old to new systems is also challenging. For me, the best Windows OS was Windows XP
@@cringetechnologies Yeah i can imagine mate, is that because of limitations i gather. Ahh another on that says XP was the best lol(my tutor prefers that aswell) why is that? was it more user friendly or was it another reason.
Intune and TPM Requirements ? Huh ?
Hi Joel, did you update the laptop 💻 itself or tried different hdmi cable. I had something similar with Lenovo laptop, after I updated drivers it worked. Good luck 😎
Thanks for the comment. Yep, I tried both of your solutions. It was a strange issue-the existing HDMI cable worked on the old PC but not on my laptop, which I was using in the video. However, I mentioned that I tested it on an older laptop, and it worked fine. The red spots on the IWB were related to the old PC. Once I replaced it, everything worked fine. I also figured out why my new laptop wasn't mirroring-I had to change the resolution on the IWB.
Thank you Joel. Another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Cloud has advantages but some schools will just say no due to the monthly cost :)
You will be surprised how much Server OS, Cal and office Licenses are in comparison 🙃
Bad side is i 'm 35yo so working for free is not an option right now😢
Just build up your knowledge, create network environments at home or virtually so when you go for job interviews you can show your skills .
@@cringetechnologies i finished cisco netacad course for ccna and i'm taking the exam next month. That is not the issue, but getting the first job AND getting paid at the same time 😉 btw i live in Barcelona, just in case anyone knows a company that picks people without real experience👍🏻
@@ricardovisconti5681 When I hire an engineer, I don't just take their experience at face value. I always test their knowledge and understanding. I have interviewed many people with supposedly a lot of field experience, but when I put them to the test, their knowledge wasn't strong enough, so I didn't hire them.
@@cringetechnologies that is great! Thanks for the time you take in replying my messages. Could you give a few examples of how you would test networking knowleadge for a entry level postion? That would be awesome to know!! Thanks again
It was only yesterday that I came across one of your videos from 7 months ago about your path into IT. I'm a career changer currently studying for the A+ certification and it's so refreshing getting a UK perspective, the majority tend to be from the US. Thank you, you've gained a new subscriber. I've already started watching from your first video.
Thank you much appreciated and good luck with your A+
as someone who is frantically looking for an IT job trying my absolute hardest, it blows my mind how someone working in the field couldn't explain things like DHCP or DNS to you in this interview.
That was my frustration with this process, because the recruitment agent said he new his stuff🙈
Great insight Joel. IT really is humbling, stressful, technical and some people make it worse lol. Im basically doing all those courses you mentioned with Security on top and 2 other modules. I will be stacked but struggling atm to learn everything. I hear you have to constantly keep moving in IT and looks like you went through the same.
My computer is not working, AHH user error 😭, good luck with you courses it will pay off in the end , thanks for the comment
