I only watched this miserable movie because I love Xu Kai’s acting. But the script is stupid and they dubbed Xu Kai’s voice with somebody where the guy’s pitch was higher than Xu Kai’s natural voice. (Sigh..). Only reason I watched the damn thing was to see Xu Kai and his good-looking face when he was much younger. You can see the beginnings of something serious in his acting. This movie must be the only time he didn’t get the girl…cuz it’s the only time he was not the ML. I was embarrassed that this production was by South Koreans. They usually produce quality products, which this certainly wasn’t. Thank you for explaining the stupid story, cuz it was hard to follow. The only redeeming things are Xu Kai focused moments.

Excellent analysis of a difficult film to understand or emotionally endure… same as the book it’s based on…this “mediocre “ film “ has aged extraordinary as there are so many analysis of it. Some in the last 5 years. Both ROBIN WILLIAMS and ANNABELLA SCIORA give this film gravitas. Kind of the way CHRISTOPHER PLUMER and JULIE ANDREWS did for the SOUND OF MUSIC.

Also, what I find disturbing about both book and film, the vast majority of those in HELL are just boring unremarkable, arrogant, and/or unpleasant. There’s no mention of the depraved, the hitlers, pol pots,etc…. Indeed Albert -in the book- has harsh words for gluttony and the biz man MARK. SIN is only mentioned once( and it is in the context of caricature). Does somebody who is prone to whine and complain deserve HELL? Even if they are not abusive, manipulative , or self absorbed to the point of malice?

Strange how , in the film, when Albert/IAN(film not book), doesn’t seem upset that his MOTHER IS GOING TO HELL FOREVER; rather CHRIS’s determination to rescue her is more of serious concern to “ALBERT”

None of this is in the book…… and their respective endings are radically different.

It’s always the ones that fk something up that lives longer than everyone else this movie is was a waste of time and money
