The Fake Shaggies: "Steve Middleton" (1997)

Recorded on a boom box in 1997 we have "Steve Middleton" by The Fake Shaggies: Ken Zerby: Lead vocals Joe Kenney: (Rudimentary) Guitar and background vocals Inspired by a kid I knew in middle school in the '80s who would gape in amazement, bug out his eyes, and wag his head back and forth so as to make the teacher think he was at least interested in the topic being discussed...even if he'd fail...

Roy TV (Cumberland, Maryland, Dec 1996)
The return mechanism is gummed up with old grease. Clean and relube.
I just found this video because I was telling the kids about the legend of roy. I figure I'll post it here because I really wanna keep roy's memory alive, he was a hero and a meme long before being a meme was a thing. So the legend goes like this.. Roy worked hard his whole life and saved up a pretty big nest egg for his retirement. A few years into his retirement he was diagnosed with cancer. His family, instead of showing concern for him immediately started fighting over who would inherit the money. So he said screw that, he'd spend every penny of his money before the cancer got him and become famous doing it. So for years, at least five, he bought an ad in the paper with a message from roy. They said things like "Hey Ladies! See You in Church! ROY" "God bless you all! ROY" He loved women, and would often put barely concealed very personal innuendos in there sometimses like "Hey Darlene! Thanks for the Kitty Kat! ROY" as kids we thought this was funny and roy was easy to find downtown in his old cadillac that you see in this video. He was 100% in on the joke and would laugh along with us kids at the absurdity of what he was doing. He claimed that after about a year of the Classifieds he had an endless string of age 60+ women that he would visit and hold hands with around town. I for sure can believe it he was crazy charming when you met him in person. I remember seeing a group of kids surrounding him and bullying him downtown but within ten minutes they were all laughing their asses off and joking around like he was just one of the gang. I miss the dude, alot. I'm guessing he succeeded in running out of money before he died because the ads stopped well before 1999. I also am suspect of him being accidentally run over by a train, because I was always told he was a railroad man his whole life. I hope he's holding hands up in heaven rn.
I want to see a tourist visit Cumberland, go to either the Allegany Museum, the Book Center or Canal Place and come upon a dvd collection called ROY TV-THE COMPLETE SERIES. I would love to see the look on their face as they try to figure out what it’s all about. Then someone comes up to them and explains it to them. Would be fun to watch.
I never knew Roy, but I seen him all the time. I was probably 18 att. He scared me a little. But turns out he was a very nice man.
who else came here from Glorious Trash?

Value city parking lot yeppper
So this is what Cumberland thought was funny. Back then. Lol. Wtf. Weird place. Dont go there.
Have you ever lived there
I knew Roy when I was living in Cumberland back in the 1990s. Roy was actually a very friendly and congenital fellow! Always had a good word for everyone except an annoying street preacher who Roy said needed to get on a city bus that was headed for the regional mental health facility.
The preacher guy from down on the mall? I remember him, he wasn't all there... Miss ole Roy...always hanging out at Roy Roger's and Value City parking lot... Driving around In His Caddy, his Billboards, daily newspaper ads, and his PVTV screen time...he had to pay sum money for all that stuff... I remember when he got hit by the train there on Henderson Ave... I was close to the scene...sad day... Miss ole Roy...he was a Cumberland staple... R.I.P. Roy...👍🏾
You’re right about Preacher John not being all there. I remember him walking up and down Baltimore Street shouting at passing cars that they were Satan worshipers. I remember thinking wow. What if one of those cars was somebody’s pastor? Whatever happened to him?
Great upload. I found this record at my local record shop Barely Brothers Records in MN.
5 bucks says William H Macy even remembers Roy
You're probably not wrong
Yes, Roy was very popular growing up in Cumberland. I remember his billboards and happy ads. We used to collect his happy ads and make a collage.
my mom randomly gave me this vinyl, i've had it sitting on my wall for yeeaars and i finally took some time to look it up! and of course im like "!!! I hear this composition alll the time!" lol
He looks like a drunken hillbilly Dr. WHO....

The era of roy was awesome in cumberland. He had a classified ad in the paper with his portrait and billboards of his picture around town. He drove everywhere in that car with his name on it.
Insane rambling..waste of time.
You apparently never knew the man. I did. One of the nicest people you could ever meet. RIP Roy.
