    Not recommended but 60 years ago in the Boy Scouts a couple of nerdowells would remove the fuel tank, pump it up, open the valve , light the streaming fuel and play flame thrower. Well, we lived through it. God protects fools.

    What kind of oil for the leather gasket?

  • @googlesbitch
    @googlesbitch 3 месяца назад

    The pour spout is off center instead of on center to prevent the siphon effect when dispensing the fuel correctly. Most use it incorrectly by pouring fuel with spout lowest toward funnel which causes a surging effect at 3:36. With the spout at a higher position, an air pocket is created, preventing a vacuum and easing the pouring of fuel. Also your generator is starting to clog due to the longer time it takes the yellow flame to go to a blue flame. A clean generator on a warm day will convert liquid fuel to gas within 10 to 15 seconds assuming you open valve fully at startup with lever facing up.

    On my stove I always have the handle in the up position before I attach the tank. It allows the generator tube to insert fully into the receptacle. On my stove (413-E) it makes a bit of difference.

      When I got mine, a ( 413-A), The photographs that the seller had listed showed two large nails poking up just below the grill behind the front panel. This interested me, what could they be? Turns out, just as you said. The previous owner never lifted the handle up and had used the nails to hold the tank in place. There are holes in the tank retaining tabs that the nails went through. For the life of my stove, I may have been the first one to fit the tank correctly. Good comment. Informative. Cheers !

    lol I compost soil in my back every year and then I move it to a new spot each year. Where last year's pile was usually things grow depending what I had composted and when. But this last spring I had a couple plants sprout from seeds from composting down those veggies. There were a couple tomato plants pop up, an eggplant and what I "thought was" a cantaloupe so being I had the room there for those I let them do their thing and I even watered them. Well the cantaloupe seemed to be growing pretty fast and much bigger and the leaves weren't looking normal because the cantaloupe wound up being a long island cheese pumpkin instead. At first I thought maybe a butternut IDK for sure but it was close. That one single plant took up over 200 s.f. because it went and branched off in about 6 direction different directions lol and those branches grew shoots from them. I didn't have the time to worry about them being they weren't part of any planned garden so I wasn't maintaining it much. It over took the tomatoes and the eggplant plant before they could begin growing. When all said and done I harvested 12 cheese pumpkins off of that 1 octopus plant lol. 12 pumpkins between 6 inches to 8 inches. They were all nice an uniform in size and heavy I probably got 50 to 60 lbs of pumpkin/squash. There were also about 4 or 5 smaller ones that weren't completely mature that I composted for next year but they could've been dried to eat also. But talk about taking over land. On mine I did lift up the vines to weed eat under them only because I try to keep these kinds of plants dry and avoid powdery mildew that gets attracted to these ground runners. I'm glad I didn't have to stop it because they taste just like their cousin butternut squash and they are loaded with vitamins and minerals and they preserve well. Harvested by October and we still have about 8. Keep in mind I grew butternut, zucchini and gooseneck so we didn't go through all of them yet. They might be too aggressive in some area taking up so much space but if you find a fence and let them grow down it you can yield a lot of food from just 1 healthy plant. They can and should be pruned back also and they'll produce the same weight in veggies without going to crazy or they need more water and deplete more nutrients from the ground. This year I'm gonna let them grow on the outside fences and it'll become a green wall full of pumpkins. I also grow beans in with other vines I grow it's a win/win use of space

    How do you guys clean the inside of your fuel tanks? I recently picked up a 432A that looks like it's barely been used, but there's a small amount of sediment in the bottom of the fuel tank. Also, the colour inside the fuel tank appears to have a reddish hue to it. Not sure if it's rust or just the actual colour of the inside. I heard of some people using vinegar to clean and then washing it out with water, letting it dry completely, and then coating the inside with a bit of engine oil. Hoping to hear from someone who's maybe done the job a few times before I go and ruin a nice stove. Thanks

      I usually go to Lowes or Home Depot and grab either NAPA or one of the other solvents and flush out the tank. Then I blow it out with compressed air. If you don't have a compressor, use canned air. Hope that helps.

      @@practicalprepping6176 thank you for the help! Do you reckon it'd be necessary, or even helpful, to add a coat of oil to the inside of the tank after drying in order to prevent corrosion? This is my first vintage Coleman stove (and probably not the last)

    A couple of issues. 1. No need to worry about putting your thumb over the pump knob hole after pumping. There is a check valve in there to keep the air from escaping. 2. You won't get the big yellow flames if you open the valve all the way, all at once. This is how the instant lighting system is designed to work. Pump it up. Lighting lever up. Hold your lighted match or lighter to the burner and quickly open the valve ALL THE WAY or at least two full turns. Not two partial turns, two complete revolutions. All the way works every time. As soon as it lights, you can start pumping to keep the pressure up. Pressure is your friend here. It atomizes the fuel better. Try it, you'll like it. If you don't believe me, read the instructions on the wind screen in front of you.

      How often do you have to pump it

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 Год назад

      @@Last_Chance. Depends on how long you run it, at what power level you run it, and how full the fuel tank is. But you can pump it up easily while cooking. In short, not often enough to be a burden at all. Even on a big 426 3 burner running all 3 on high, which is unusual, I'd estimate 10 minutes or so between to maintain full power. If you want to keep your number of re-pumps to a minimum, don't fill the tank as much. But you will have to pump more to start, it will just hold pressure longer. When cooking on one burner at medium to low heat, you may not have to pump it after the initial two pump sessions.(pre and post lighting because the instant lighting feature does use a significant amount of air). When the tank is full, there is less air space, which will need to be replenished, but with only a few pumps, sooner than a 1/4 full tank with lots of air that required a lot of pumps to pressurize initially. So, the total number of pumps will be about the same regardless for a full to empty tank. When you see a decrease in power, pump until you get what you need. You will get a feel for it the more you use them. You can tell by how hard it is to pump. If it's not giving much resistance, the pressure is low. Hard to pump, pressure high. I occasionally see inexperienced users complain about having to pump all the time and find that they still have the lighting lever up. Remember to put it down when its warmed up. DO NOT confuse the lighting lever on these stoves with the cleaning needle lever, which looks identical, on some other single burner stoves and lanterns. They don't do anything close to the same thing. Hope this makes sense and answered your question.

    "The instructions are on the lid" Then literally doesn't follow the instructions. This video was WAAAAYYYYYY more trouble than it should be. Lever up, open valve ALL THE WAY, let it burn for minute or so, lever down, adjust to desired cooking. Don't barely crack the valve open when the lever is up and then feather it to keep the flames down. Just open it all the way and don't touch it for a minute to warm up. If that doesn't work you need to service the stove.

    Just fyi, maybe Canada is different but it is printed in the little instruction paper, DO NOT USE KEROSINE OR UNLEAD GAS. Just going by what it says. These stoves are a little more hassle than the propane stoves with the little screw on tank, but those things are terrible for the environment, because very few people recycle them or refill them. We had a stove like this when I was a kid in the 60s and it worked every time for years and years.

      Nice thought, but technically impossible. The valve on the tank controls the main burner. Once the main burner is lit you can then light the secondary burner. Once the secondary burner is lit you can adjust the output on both burners by the main valve. The secondary burner is always less powerful than the main. It's good for simmering and keeping stuff warm.
