Excellent footage. I was the radio car at the chicane at Post 9. We were curious as to where the front left punctures were happening? I feel that left hander, where a lot drifted wide right, may have been the cause.

I was in Long Knots stage. I kept hearing reports of cars cutting the corners and sustaining wheel damage in various places. Now I can see why. So much mud being thrown onto the road that it becomes very slippery

The pushrods in the 1600cc Avenger engine were much shorter than most other OHV cars. And, it came with double valve springs. And, the standard exhaust was 4 into 2 into 1 arrangement. I only came to appreciate the difference these made later-on. Moving from a Mk2 Escort, it was pretty clear that the engine in the Avenger was in a different league altogether. The Avenger was the car that I thought I was getting when I bought the Escort. The Ford carburettor was really cheap and power delivery could not be relied-up when pulling out of a road junction. My family were a whole lot safer travelling in the Avenger than the Escort. My current car, an Audi A4 Avant, might have more safety features; but, as has often been demonstrated, it is far more likely to leave the road in the first-place, particularly a wet road and where there is a bend.
