This performance still makes me emotional. It's also the reason why I was invested into reintroducing the Color Purple story to myself. I remember seeing the movie as a kid many times and growing up with pop culture references to it but never really understanding the storyline or character arcs. From this single performance I finally grasped what one of the characters probably went through and it was so resonating. Still is. Fantasia DID that. And I was so happy to see she was casted for the remake film.
