A lament on the huge loss of life from Covid-19, with over 1 MILLION lives lost in the USA. But specifically this song is about the lies told to folks who blindly believed them, many of whom died or got very sick.

Give It Everything- by Mike Upchurch

Sounds best if NOT on a phone! Here's a little positivity for a change, even during a pandemic. (Hope everyone is staying safe.) As I get older it's rare I write a rocker, but this just happened. You learn as a writer to sometimes go with the flow of what your hands and head are wanting to do. That's why I've written a few country tunes; they too just "happened." Hope you like the message. Original song by Mike Upchurch, it implores the public to exercise their right in determining the leaders and direction of policies in America. This video demonstrates Mike’s mahogany 1964 nylon stringed guitar with the Bartlett Acoustic Guitar Microphone, with everything recorded by the Bartlett Phone Microphone 18” from a Yamaha floor monitor. Both are fine mics, especially for recording!

Just before Christmas 1947, a 24 year old woman and her dog flew a single engine Cessna plane by themselves across the USA from Napa, California to Thomasville, Georgia. There were a few exciting moments, like when her plane barely cleared the mountain tops coming out of California, and another time when she flew too late into the evening with no way to call the airport ahead and tell them to l...

THAT'S RIGHT! -by Mike Upchurch (6-30-18) It's not hate that makes this world go 'round. Ashamed we are of whom we gave that crown. This song is about quitting smoking. Smoking tobacco is like using heroin in many ways. It is VERY hard to quit smoking, and you do go through withdrawal symptoms, just not as bad as I've read users of heroin go through.

Home Design: POOL HOUSE 3D walkthrough
Some nice guitar work Mike. I listen to a lot of music...really think there's something there...nice job.
I appreciate your kind words here. In reality, it's Scott (lead guitar) who is doing the harder playing.
Years ago Scott and I made the choice to go with just acoustic and electric guitars because we wanted the listener to hear different instruments instead of a doubling of almost the same sounds. IMO- what makes this song stand out is that "travelin' bass" that drives the rhythm, an idea I got from JJ Cale's "Downtown LA."
Lyrics: (Old Scottish proverbs are in quotes) FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT "IF WISHES WERE FISHES, BEGGERS WOULD EAT." IF GOOD DIDN'T MATTER, WE WOULD ALL CHEAT. WISHIN' TOO HARD IS A WASTE OF TIME. WISHING AWAY IS ALMOST A CRIME. I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY YOU GO YOUNG OR OLD FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT - FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT "IF WISHES WERE HORSES, BEGGERS WOULD RIDE IF TURNIPS WERE SWORDS, I'D HAVE ONE BY MY SIDE." STOP WASTIN' YOUR TIME, STOP WISHIN' SO HARD REALITY BITES, SO GO PLAY YOUR CARDS I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY YOU GO YOUNG OR OLD FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT - FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT ALL YOU CAN DO IS DO WHAT YOU CAN WISTFUL WISHIN' - I'M NOT A BIG FAN GIVE IT YOUR BEST, ALL THAT YOU'VE GOT GIVE IT A LITTLE OR GIVE IT A LOT I DON'T KNOW WHICH WAY YOU GO YOUNG OR OLD FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT - FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT
Thanks for sharing. Nice song for a sunday morning...mellowed out now. Made me smile. Thank you
Nice!
It reminds me of certain things by Pink Floyd, quiet, David Gilmour-style, second part of the 80s. I liked you and subscribed to your RUclips channel; please listen to something or check out mine too, in your free time, bye.❤
Grand! I like the chord structure of the song a lot. Very pretty. That's also a handsome looking Wayne Henderson tee-shirt. A little tip of the hat to Grayson County's best luthier.
Thanks. Yes, Wayne Henderson is a mighty fine luthier (he sold one of his guitars to Eric Clapton!) AND guitarist.
I like it, Mike. Thanks for sharing.
I love it
We have short memories. Because many may have forgotten the history that led to me writing this song, here's a brief reminder: "“I wanted to always play it down,” Trump told author Bob Woodward on March 19, days after he declared a national emergency. “I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.” (EDIT- No, in reality Trump wanted to get re-elected and knew a deadly spreading virus would hurt his chances. That's why he played it down!) CNN on Wednesday broadcast interviews Woodward did with Trump for his new book “Rage.” The book, to go on sale next Tuesday, just weeks before the Nov. 3 presidential election, comes amid criticism of Trump’s efforts to battle COVID-19. The Republican president, assailed by his Democratic rival Joe Biden over the slow U.S. government response to the coronavirus, played down the crisis for months as it took hold and spread across the country. In the March 19 conversation, Trump told Woodward that some “startling facts” had emerged showing the extent of those at risk: “It’s not just old, older. Young people too, plenty of young people.” “The fact is I’m a cheerleader for this country. I love our country and I don’t want people to be frightened,” Trump said at the White House. “We’ve done well from any standard.” According to the interviews, CNN and The Washington Post reported, Trump knew the virus was dangerous in early February. “It goes through the air,” Trump said in a recording of a Feb. 7 interview with Woodward. “That’s always tougher than the touch. You don’t have to touch things. Right? But the air, you just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed. Citing the new book, Biden accuses Trump of betraying Americans on coronavirus. “And so that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flus.” A week after that interview, Trump said at a White House briefing that the number of U.S. coronavirus cases “within a couple days is going to be down close to zero.” www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-book/trump-said-he-knew-virus-was-deadly-but-still-played-down-crisis-woodward-book-idUSKBN2602TR
I think John Prine and others who perished would appreciate this tune. Quite different than other songs you’ve done. Something about that new chord you were telling me about maybe.
Keep on plugging, you have a nice sound
Appreciate that, Ronald. Hope to one day jam with you.
Alright! A ROCKER!

Proud of you! You shine 🤩
Thanks, Nasrin. And I'm proud our you teaching English and back at playing the violin! WTG!!
Love your music. And love your passionate voice for change.
Thanks, Roberta!
Love the message! More people need to be vocalizing disagreement with what's going on and having some optimism for change. Also like the mellowness of that nylon with Bruce's mic. Sweet!
Thanks, I try. I honestly feel that many stayed home instead of voting for Hillary over the buffoon in office simply because the polls showed her so far ahead of him. I'd hate for that mistake to happen twice!
👍👏👏
Wow great song grandpapa your a perfessional, we miss you nana
Much love and respect to my Nana. Great job Papa. Beautiful!
This is just my version of my Mom's telling me about how she and her Sheltie dog, Rebel, flew cross-country in a little plane by themselves. It's very hard to write a true story song, especially one that has enough details to make the retelling accurate. Sorry about that. For instance, the detail about how her radio could receive voices but could NOT send HER voice is important: Mom knew there was an airport somewhere below her plane in the darkness, but because she couldn't ask them to turn on their runway landing strip lights, she couldn't land her plane, and she was almost out of fuel! This was dangerous. Her seeing another plane with its landing lights on meant it was about to land, so she flew in a semi-circle and got right behind it. Sure enough, the runway lights came on for THE OTHER PLANE and Mom landed right behind it. The line in the chorus that says "Didn't die before they died" comes from my mother's motto "Never give up!" combined with a friend's motto "Don't die until you're dead!" meaning to never quit trying. I have to say my mother followed that motto until the very end. It's hard to include enough details in a "true story" type song. But at least I tried.
It’s catchy
Nice.
The line "Stand for facts that don't fit the glove" is a reference to the O.J. Simpson trial wherein an obviously guilty man went free, partly because his hand was very tight in the glove worn to commit the murders.
Check out my new trick shot video!
Good job!
Thanks, Dagan. These songs are here simply because it's easier to do a live video than a studio recording of the song. If I like the song after comparing it to the others I've recently written, I'll do the full studio treatment later for it. I'll even learn to play and sing them better before recording, editing, and mastering them! LOL
Mike, you sing with great depth it taps into our humanity of connection ,well done
Thanks. I try. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not so much. LOL I liked the message in this one enough to put it on my set list for my son's upcoming wedding. Glad ya liked it.
Nice, easy going melody. Good job. Tom B.
Mike - great job. You went all John Popper on us (Blues Traveler) at the bridge. I have to say the term 'vocal perjury' is going to stick with me .....
Nice job Mr. U

@BBallPlayer1011 Thanks. Dreaming's cheap. Right?
@TheRandomGuys1999 Thanks, belatedly. I did this house in a week of part-time effort. I'd love to build it on Kauai, Hawaii. But a 23 day visit taught me there ain't a lot of white-haired folk living there.
@unicorn6110 Glad ya liked this. If I omitted the brick exterior it'd be a good design for a crowded lot with no view in Hawaii.
I found you! ;) The living room/bar/dining/kitchen is ENORMOUS. I'd thought from what you told me the "pool room" would need skylights, but natural light, without a pane of glass to shine through, is even better, especially during a Hawaiian sunset! :) I love the many, MANY bookcases (even the ones we ran through!) and the music area with the oceanic background. Yes, I agree the home needs more colorful landscaping, but overall I loved it! :D
