Briilliant Absolutly damn brilliant

With the latest December fires in 2019, I guess the reopening that was to happen in October is now put back many years. This railway seems cursed in so many ways. For the last 10 years I have had railway friends say to me the Zig Zag will be running in a year. It's the longest year in history.

My information says the Army caused the fires and is reneging on doing the repairs. With a Liberal State Government I don' think it will be any time soon to open Another very valuable piece of Australian History left to rot as Beaucrats try to shove it under the rug. Take a visit to England and see the money they raise with their Steam.

I can't wait til this is opened again, after the fires ravaged it. Thank you for this clip it is brilliant

I 1972 a loaded Cliffs ore train going to Cape Lambert has derailed in a washaway at Cooya Pooya Creek near Pyramind Hill; the wrecked wagons were left in the creek for 40 years.

Anyone else remember (1960's) when there were railway lines along Quay Street in Auckland past the bottom of Queen Street? Very unnerving to be sitting in a stationary car with a huge locomotive (Ja?) towering over it and chuffing slowly past less than ten feet away.

@ac124278 Hiya, i'm afraid you may find your wrong there. No steam has worked in the George or Mossel Bay area for a few years now. The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe no longer exists. All the locos are standing in Voorbaai shed (my old workplace) rotting away. Atlantic rail in CT and a few other groups run steam but as for the Choo Tjoe there has been nothing for a few years. Very sad indeed but unfortunately its true.

@ac124278 Rovos is still running and Transnet Museum still have a few locos but as for Outeniqua choo tjoe taht is long gone. I was a fireman on the Knysna line and most of the locos that we once had are standing at Voorbaai in terrible condition. Only the private steam groups like FOTR, AR, Reefsteamers and a few others are keeping the show going with no help from government or Transnet!!

@LifeofRail Hey now at least we still have Rovos Rail, Outeniqua choo tjoe, and the Transnet Railway Museums preserved steam locomotive fleet and from the looks of it they are all here tostay!!! ;)

Great stuff Ron, if only it was still like this today! Its terrible to think just about every locomotive and most of the lines shot in this clip are now history! Most of the locos which were even preserved at the time are now scrapped, others lay destroyed and stripped of all parts. Such a sad ending to a once wonderful country!!

There are three standandard Linns yet existing in Australia that I know of, all Hancock Brothers loggers that were imported through the Republic Motor Truck (Alma, MI) dealership network, as Linn was a subsidiary of Republic at that time. #1235 model 6-28-E is at Laidley, QLD, Buchannan's 1248 6-28-E, and # 1300 model 6-26-E John Scott, Swabank. The 6-26 model was teh first to use the 100 hp 6 cyl. Waukesha 6A series engines. And then there is John Belfield's 1944 US Navy C5 Catruk........
