They are currently spending a lot of money and effort regenerating the town centre so hopefully it will be looking better soon. I don't mind shopping there as it has a decent mix of shops for a small town, and it's just much less stressful than going into Manchester.

I lived on Pitt St [next to the Cathedral] from 1969 -76. Gloucester was vibrant & joyous then. It now looks a drab shadow of its former glory ! Hard to believe the decline in less than 50 years. Sad state of affairs.

the brunel night club was brilant it had a revolving bar there was bubbles pashes vadims level 3 cairos fantastic back in the 80s terrible now

i lived in swindon for 38 years the town centre back in the 80s was brilant now it is terrible swindon use to be a boom town in 1985 and it was a great place to live in now it is scuffy and not very good

i am from oldham and have not been into the town centre for years, everyone avoids it like the plague, it is not a happy place at all. i also notice how everyone is walking with a limp and just looks disabled it is shockingly sad to see.

St helens looked way better in the 60s.

There some women from Pakistan live in Oldham on block lane near by talleem ull Islam mosque she’s been marrying men for western countries passports her name is nergus from jalalia Pakistan she needs too be deported or be in prison before but the uk borders didn’t even check properly their house should be taken from them her and her husband and her kids should be banned from all western countries.

I still go there occasionally but used to be there virtually every weekend as a child and teenager buying Lps in woolworths, buttons and wool in the wool shop, clothes in ethels and super seconds and of course 'stuff' in the joke shop. Then as an older teenager I was there nearly every weekend out with friends in the Vic, bath springs, red lion, fusilier, hope and anchor etc. I can still remember a tiny chippy in the corner opposite the red lion that did the best chips and curry ever 😂 Its so sad to see it looking like this. Its a beautiful oldly wordly village town that has been destroyed 😢 so glad I have my memories 🤍

Most depraved? Clearly you dnt know wot your talking about yes its run down but the ppl dnt go round stabbing and robbing each other.

Oldham born and bred the decline is shocking

Im from oldham but ill avoid oldham center if i can its run down and not what it was when i was growing up the trams are to get people out not bring people in

Back in the 1970s I knew Oldham quite well as my wife worked there but I hardly recognise any of it now. It looks awful now.

I’m impressed I have seen back streets and they looked dirty rundown The main roads and shopping area looks good banks still open etc but not many people shopping because a lot of the shops have gone it used to be busy maybe it was Sunday

Seems pretty quiet for a big city

I also worked in oldham town square in the 80s it was a thriving busy town , you were fighting your way through the centre at lunch time , great shops and outside and indoor market , what a shame it has become a town no one wants to visit and we all know why .

Nail bars and Kurdish barbers like most places, Stockport used to be so vibrant,had it's own character,now it looks half alive.I was born there.

My husband Arthur was born there in 1944 and left in 1967. He says " Boy has the place changed". He loved the video.
