FLUID ART WITH JO SONJA ACRYLIC PAINT
Wouldnt this leave a lumpy finish..?
Why didn't you show the back of it 🤔
Very pretty.
i believe it is the same process james tyler does on their products
Does the paint come off while playing?
Great fluid aet Julia ! to color the other side of the guitar what is the technique? do you let one side dry first and then turn and paint the other? but how do you do it to remove smudges?
How did you coat the paint? Did you resin it, spray it? Did you paint the back?
That is the firdt video I watch with great information 🤗thank you very much for sharing. Nice work. What is the brand of tour fluid watercolor you ate using ? Please
A few things: Did you know that guitars can be disassembled? The pickguard came full of smudges (and just think if one day the guitarist decided to use it without a pickguard...). Painting a guitar is a matter of art and technique together. One must consider that it will be used, so a protective finish is essential, and the back should also be considered. Finally, I would have stripped it first.
Dude what’s up with that high pitch noise at the very beginning of the video. Edit that sh*t out of your video
I’ve never seen anyone paint a guitar without stripping and priming it first. How do you make sure the new paint is going to stick?
A coat of varnish or resin.
Everybody out there, please be very careful using solvents, especially odorless. Even when working in a well-ventilated area, they are dangerous. If you want to experiment with your oil paints, then use linseed oil and adjust the fluidity with solvent (e.g. solvent:oil 1:10), but unless you are wearing a good respirator, don't paint in the manner shown here. Unless you are a professional, stick with acrylics: they dry faster, and you'll be must happier with the results. Happy painting!
How about the back side though
Did you also paint the back? Thanks 😊
I've just started playing with these paints, so thanks for sharing your work. Which model air compressor have you got? I looked at one at Bunnings, but the hose was really short.
Great idea, love it! Thank you for introducing this method using oil paints!
I need to know what the back of it looks like!! I assume it hadn't also been poured over, otherwise I'd assume we would've seen that; so, was the whole back of the guitar body just masked off? I'm so perplexed by these guitar jobs. I've been commissioned to pour over a guitar (I do abstract painting and fluid art, but usually on canvas), so have been searching RUclips for ideas. But i have no clue what to do about the back of the guitar!
What a fun project! That was great.
My wife does similar pours, has done a bunch of my guitars, but I do totally disassemble it .then rebuild once painted.makes for a very clean finish.
What mixing media did you use?
Everything about this is wrong. Awful, awful way to paint a guitar.
Thank you ❤️❤️
Looks great. Just thinking out loud (in written form), I think it would be cool to do the pickguard at the same time. You could mask the pickups and bridge, but how to separate the guard from the guitar after drying?
Very nice! 👍🏻
That turned out wicked rad.
Thanks legend!! 😁⭐️
I want to see your face when you took the guitar and it's stuck to the textile! EDIT: you were brave to do such a job on a guitar.
WTF? You destroy guitar 😵😱 omg 😩😩😩
any chance u will do a tutorial on this?its soooo incredible
When my brother died a whole heap of us in the family got some of his possessions I as his sister got his paints as I am the Artzi one and I wanted to do something where I could have his paints forever I also play guitar so this was perfect thank you I will comment again to update my progress
Have you tried using a hair dryer to blow the paint around and over the sides of the guitar?
Oh dear
So awesome that your cat was there the whole time to make sure nothing goes wrong and seemed very excited when you were removing the tape
This came out quite good. Have you tried a higher viscosity?
Could you explain the beginning process?
degueulasse XD
I would have did this on a custom guitar builds after painting the body before assembly, however I would have not covered the edges instead I would have left them as draping, let them dry and then lightly lined the inside of the edges with gold paint, after I was finished I would have applied epoxy resin over the top of it to seal it, and help it giving a glossy finish when it gets polished.
Honestly the lights ruined it.
This is so cool! What tape did u trust?!😂 and this plays right? Didn’t have any problems with paint getting in the guitar? I see videos of people taking it completely apart and people taping like this but nobody plays the damn guitar at the end so idk which is best for a functioning guitar😂 great work Tho this is my favorite one I’ve seen for sure!❤️
Ahh, thanks Shane! I’m not familiar with the anatomy of a guitar so that was my justification. Plays fine! It’s just acrylic- like putting sticker on it 😉
When I’ve done this my canvas seems to soak up the colour and then puddle in places, what am I doing wrong?
This is awesome!
Thank you for the video. Ive had these paints collecting dust for a year or more forgot why I had bought them. At last I now know what to do with them. Wales UK.
My pleasure!! Have fun! ⭐️⭐️
Nice job. Here are a few pointers that will help you for future projects.. For starters, you should sand the guitar down before you do anything else. Reason being is because if you don't, then the paint won't have anything to stick to, and will make it more prone for the paint job to come off. Also, if you're doing a complete guitar in this method, start off with the back first. The reason for this is because you will need something to hold up the guitar above the work space when you work on it, like stands or something like that: just like how most people do a fluid painting on a canvas. They keep the painting stood above the table or workspace so that the excess paint can drip off and you can scrape the sides off so that the extra drippings on the guitar doesn't pull the rest of the paint off when drying. Contrary to other comments here, in terms of taking the hardware off, it depends on the model of the guitar. You chose a Strat body in this video, which from experience is the easiest guitar body to do a fluid painting on, since the pickguard and the bridge are right next to each other and do not have a gap like most other guitars, which meant that you didn't have to take off the bridge or the pickguard. Some people here say you should take off the neck before pouring. Just take some green painters tape and tape off some of the neck, including the front where the fretboard is. I say green painters tape because when taking the tape off, it doesn't leave residue or any sticky stuff on the guitar. Why tape the neck and the fretboard? Because it's better if after you're done doing the pouring, you tilt the excess paint off and even the paint job out that way. You will need something to hold onto that is attached to the guitar to help you tilt it, and you don't want paint on the neck or the fretboard. Another tip. DO NOT do this kind of art on high end guitars unless you end up becoming very experienced with it. Do cheaper guitars so that if you mess up, you don't feel too bad about it. After the paint job on the back and the front are done and completely dry, take it outside and spray it with a clear gloss spray. This helps make the colors pop and protects the paint job. You could also use wax on it too. The last pointer: ALWAYS test the guitar before and after to see if any big changes to the sound occurred and to see if it still works. Bonus points if it still works. Try not to sell them, as most people just see it as a guitar and not as a piece of art. Also, doing this kind of art on a guitar greatly decreases the value of it, unless you've made a name for yourself in art. Guitars like the one you did are mainly for art exhibitions. I've tried to get my guitars in a regular art gallery and they wouldn't take them because they would be "out of place". Thats the thing: there's such a niche market for this kind of guitar art that it's not even funny. Do not give up because a few people disapprove of it. Everyone has different tastes and some people do not like or can't comprehend different or "weird" things. Again, most people will just see your project as a guitar, and not as a piece of art. I wish you luck, and keep going at your art.
What kind of paint should I use if I do this on my motorcycle Helmet?
Be nice if you would explain the process
and ruined.
Hello! What were the steps in the beginning with the isocol if I may ask?
I read 20% liquid only with oil paint
yes it DOES look good...i' would have presanded (as so many others suggest) and clear coated thickly.....back in the day we'd smear lighter fluid on guitars and light 'em up for a similar effect...but as everyone else has pointed out you have made the guitar *into* ART and it is no longer a functional musical instrument...it literally is just a very few screws to do it in a way that does not harm the functionality...plenty of youtube vids on guitar dissassembly...then you could sell your art as a "guitar" not as "just art"...either way i am going to try something similar so thanks for the ideas and tips.
Thanks for the tip! And I’m glad to have inspired you! Have fun 🤘
Beautiful.. Simply 🥰
Aww, thank you so much 🥰
Great marble effect! Why do you need a screwdriver and a soldering iron? Because if the paint goes under the pickguard it will be glued to the body and will break when the guitarist will remove it.
