    I have a RTV X1120. Same machine as the 1100C but open station. They are work machines for sure with monster torque. On hills when the engine starts to lug, back off on the hydro pedal. This has the effect of lowering the gear ratio in the hydro pump. You will still lose speed but won’t kill the engine

    Nice job man! Can't wait to try this.I have pine, but it was dead when I cut it down, and because of that I thought maybe no pine tar ,do you think I will have a problem with pine tar.I think it's a white pine? And I have read there are hardwood pines? I mean, it was hard to maul up and quarter it, so hard I had to use the splinter and maul on it to axe it up. I have a wall full of it in my garage.Thank you for your video.

      Jonmo I have never tried any soft woods like pine to make the charcoal. I would have a couple concerns: 1.) The sap and tar might be an issue 2.) I cannot see pine adding any positive flavor to what I would be barbequing. That being said, give it a try and let us know how it works and thank you for the comments and viewership.

    I have an older 900 and live on the side of a mountain. It’s much better than my previous side by side going up down hills while working. It’s a mountain goat. It’s not a play thing. It’s a work horse, like a tractor. Moving gear around on steep inclines it’s awesome. You said it, if you’re not working it much, why bother. If you are, it’s safer, more dependable and an absolute beast. It’s all metal, not plastic and not for hauling and no joy riding.

      Donald, both Tim and I have had these xbows for 4+ years and are located in Iowa. We have used these crossbows into January with some temperatures getting near 0F. At my age it wouldn't be if the crossbow could hold up, it would be if I could survive those temperatures! I would suggest contacting Ravin and asking them about their testing in cold temperatures and known issues. Good luck and keep warm.

    From what I see on the net a lot of these come from the factory with the injection pumps set very conservatively. A guy can turn the pump up a bit and wake up the power without over doing things. Also be sure throttle is full open with pedal on the floor and stop set to rated RPM's. I have 2 grasshopper mowers with D722 engines and both needed a bit of adjusting but after that they have amazing power and work well.

      Lori thanks for the viewership and question. I think the video does a good job, however let me put some steps in writing. The Steps are: 1. drain hydraulic oil (plug located under PTO shaft) 2. Block tires, lift one rear tire and remove. 3. Slide seal towards outer end of shaft to create access to axle snap ring 4.) Using snap ring pliers remover snap ring on shaft near bearing. 5.) The shaft can now be removed. Grab end of shaft and apply side to side force until you can pull the shaft out. 6.) Take a photo, use diagram in episode or draw out how the parts are aligned on the axle. (bearing, seal, etc) 7. Remove all parts including seal 8.) Clean and polish shaft using high grit sand paper and clothe. 9.) Reassemble parts onto shaft. Use lithium grease or light oil to align bearing and seal. Use a wooden block or soft hammer to gently tap parts in place. 10.) Insert shaft, apply snap ring, slide seal tight and adhere tire and add fluids. BINGO!

    Talk about the tree stand in the quiver when you're practicing do you have your quiver on when I get in my tree stands my quiver is not on my crossbow it is on the side of the tree this way I know that my hands are totally free on the front of that crossbow but I also use a stick that on a rail for my crossbow all of my crossbows have always had some sort of support for making sure that I'm 100% steady almost like the steady eddies and depending on which kind of blind I'm in will depend on if I use a tripod or a single pod or if I'm using the rail on the tree stand then my safety rail is what I have to crossbow sitting on And you should not only just practice from on level ground when you practice but you should also practice shooting from an elevated location so if you have tree in your backyard or make a small like off your patio 4 ft off the ground then you still are elevated and shooting at her known distance but you're still getting the concept You're not shooting flat across

  • @charlesblakeman4667
    @charlesblakeman4667 Месяц назад

    And also tell your personnel that you're talking to that your equipment is only as good as you want it to be if you want to buy a Raven and never do anything then you're going to have a basic knowledge of it and you're never going to shoot over 50 yards okay that's fine but if you take the time to actually learn what it can and cannot do and the maximum distance just like if you were shooting a rifle You knew the maximum yardage of your weapon You knew the maximum distance of accuracy that you were if you were shooting a seven mag or an odd 6 or 3030 you knew what the maximum distance that you comfortably could shoot if it was 500 yards if it was 200 yards you knew what the maximum effective range is so you make sure that you practice to know the maximum effective range for your crossbow and that's why I say you want to make sure that you practice practice practice and yes you will replace strings You will replace the rollers and you'll replace your cocking device because you're cocking device will wear out and when it starts slipping too much you will have to replace it so keep that in mind as well

  • @charlesblakeman4667
    @charlesblakeman4667 Месяц назад

    Also I don't know if you're about to say anything about it but one of the cons about the Ravens those rollers at the end something that you will find out I know that you're not as probably what would you want to call it right to the t or anal about your equipment like if you were a sniper everything has to be perfect a perfectionist okay I am and when it comes to my hunting equipment the shooting ability but the rollers after every shot the ceramic rollers will get a little flat spot on them because it the arrow at the speed it's moving burns the ruler just so that you understand that those roller assemblies after every season I would highly recommend you replace it and if you shoot a lot like I do you replace it several times a year

    • @midwesthuntingoutdoors
      @midwesthuntingoutdoors Месяц назад

      Charles, first off thanks so much for your viewership. Some really good comments. I should have, but hadn't checked the rollers. You are quite right, that is something to monitor. Mine had some flat spots beginning. Thanks for the insight.

    @charlesblakeman4667 Месяц назад

    Frozen the first ones with the r20 and I have a guy business and I bought three of them and the r20 is basically the same as the r10 except they shoot a little bit faster and the number one thing when you go about shooting distance if you don't practice then I don't care if you're shooting a BB gun you're not going to be any good with it I highly recommend what you are comfortable shooting at is what you are comfortable killing it and yes I'm comfortable shooting over 100 but I've only had to do that twice prior to that and most recent is has been under 80 except yesterday it was right at 80 and people need to understand that no matter what crossbow you have because I've had Excalibur I've had multiple brands scorpion I've had the Raven and out of all of them the Raven is the top of the line but your bolt is the number one part of the brain the crossbow can only do what the bolt is good enough to do and people have to understand if you don't balance your bolts and you don't check the weights of your boat it's just like a gun if you do just go and buy cheap ammo it's going to give you a cheap job if you purchase the higher crossbow bolts and you still weigh them before you purchase them and you make sure that they are all within your personal spectrum then you are looking at every shot same hole but it's not something that you go out and just pull the trigger in one day and then 6 months later you think about maybe getting it out once during the summer if you want to be extremely well with it then you need to practice and don't be foolish and give it to your kid and say here go practice without any supervision because that's a big mistake that's how people get hurt or worse yet they tear up your crossbow

    Great review. I really don’t understand why they couldn’t make better lighted nocks. I know why they made a proprietary bolt though. So they can have a monopoly on it. But I bought lighted nocks off eBay that were like 14 bucks for 12 and another set I have lasted 3 years so far and you can turn them off easily with a button. Unfortunately they won’t fit the ravin bolts. It’s just crazy to have to pay that much for something that doesn’t work well.

    Call me a dumb ass if you will, but isn't that a slip clutch on the gear box side of the driveline? If so, the bolt that sheared isn't really a shear bolt, it just secures the driveline to the gear box, so a harder grade bolt would be just fine. My cutter (a Bush Hog brand) utilizes the same type connection at the gear box as the one at the tractor PTO, a splined shaft with a notch.

    • @midwesthuntingoutdoors
      @midwesthuntingoutdoors 4 месяца назад

      Com-beau you are correct it does have a slip clutch however the shear bolt is back up protection. Slip clutches are notorious for rusting and freezing up over time. We need to spend some time on the slip clutch and do some PM to make sure it is functional, however until then this shear bolt adds some comfort.

    • @comlbbeau

      @@midwesthuntingoutdoors Gotcha!

    • @midwesthuntingoutdoors
      @midwesthuntingoutdoors 4 месяца назад

      @@comlbbeau Technically you are correct though that it is "actually" a sheer bolt. However, it is treated as one for the machine. When speaking to the dealer, we actually put a lower grade bolt on it to protect the gear box. The slip clutch also adds to the security of the gear box. Most people store these brush hogs outside. With that, the slip clutches get rusted. If you break those rust spots as Joel showed in one of the episodes, probably limited need for a shear pin / bolt. However, many folks don't do that necessary step on the slip clutch. Hopefully that makes sense.
