RIP TotalBiscuit, I know you cared about him a lot man and I can tell he made a huge positive impact on your life.

I sometimes get lost in taking care of other people. What do they need, what can I do for them, what can make them better. At my housing program we get tons of men and women that come in that are homeless. They're at the bottom and they get lost int he same mentality. They do their best to take care of each other even at the expense of themselves. We tell them, "You can't help someone else if you can't help yourself." It's the same thing stewards tell you on an airplane about the oxygen mask. I finally got to a point one day where I realized I wasn't following the advice I was giving all of my clients. When a person has words of concern from friends and loved ones pointing out flaws or imperfections they're already seeing for themselves it triggers a defensive response. "I've been caught in my failure." It leads to frustration and anger and jealousy and all kinds of negative emotions. The trick is that people need to lead their lives they way they want their lives to look. I want to be the person that shows up on time to work, fully rested, wearing good looking clothes, I excel in my work day, I'm home by 6PM, I spend an hour with my partner, and I read 1 chapter of a book every night. All of those tasks are achievable easily. The steps to get there can be imagined in a few moments. A person has to imagine what they want their life to look like so they can mentally begin to prepare the changes that need to be made for that life to follow. Want to wake and have breakfast, a shower, and shave before work everyday. 1) I'm not getting enough sleep so I wake up at the last minute 2) How can I get more sleep? 3) I can go to bed an hour earlier. 4) I can wake up earlier 5) I'll use my new hour in the morning to do my morning tasks So simple but so easy to overlook when stress, worry, and the day to day grind are getting overwhelming. I had to do that a few weeks ago, and my work week was popping off incredibly. Been letting stress creep back in though so it's time for me to reboot again haha

I've been making sure to appreciate time off, but the bigger deal for me has been learning how to make moments of respite in the middle of chaos. Like I'll have 5-6 days in a row of 16 hour days. In the past they would've tanked me, but now I try to find either a single hour where I can be 100% in relaxation mode. If that 100% is a nap I take a nap, on the floor, in my living room with a tower fan on me. If it's a 45 minute window where I can walk outside with a friend, then I take a 4 lap walk around a city block in downtown with the friend. Really just being in the moment when you can get rest to savor it and let it recharge ya.

It would be neat if the teacher could find out what their kids are passionate about at the beginning of each school year, and then weave the students' interests, the teacher's interests, and the ELD curriculum points that have to be covered into a cohesive experience. Would be a great way to latch the students into learning the language / culture while helping them expand their boundaries. The teacher using their interests as an example should let the teacher be more engaged with their class (since they are motivated using something they like) while helping the students engage more with a positive role model. Let's the teacher activate the Observation / Muscle Memory / Mirror Neuron feedback loop of triple threat learning if teacher and student are mirroring each other.

Games + ELD = ??? You talked about having them make a D&D type game before! Keep pushing use your strengths~
