In this episode of Full Frame, Mark dives into the story of his surprising purchase: the Canon IXUS X1, an Advanced Photo System (APS) film camera he mistakenly thought was a 35mm! What was meant to be a step into classic film photography turned into an exploration of the fascinating but lesser-known APS format. APS film, introduced in the mid-1990s, was designed to simplify photography with fe...

In this video, Mark and Ben explore the streets of Nottingham, UK, to photograph something rare and fascinating-a purple/blue streetlight! Inspired by the work of photography RUclipsr @WillemVerb who’s captured similar lights in Los Angeles, we couldn’t resist taking on this unique subject ourselves. These lights turn purple due to a failure in the coating on white LED streetlights, exposing th...

Good looking guy in that pic -
👊🏻
I have this camera as well as Minolta weathermatics and Nikon waterproofs. I bought these for a song at thrift stores and camera shows. Now they cost more than a song.
You lucky duck 🦆 I’ll try and get a few more interesting cameras to review this year. Thanks for watching 😁
What L plate grip did you use for your nikon fe
Just from Chyna 🇨🇳
I used a Brownie on a vacation in the uk around 1990. I got it in a charity shop and got a color film. And as Brownie's was meant for B&W you get some interesting color bleeding on the objects witch gave it an interesting look.
Yeah I think that will be a cool experiment to do next!
Keep up the great content for 2025 👍🏻
Cheers nick! We have some plans
You're doing a fantastic job! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
I’ll ask
Weirdo 😂
Ut was a pack of used condoms😂😂😂😮😮😮
That is a Luxury version of Kodak Brownie 😀. I have several box cameras, and they are nice. Huge negative saves a lot. Box Tengor is perhaps the best, it has 3 apertures and a close-up-lens. Mine are all now broken, so definitely not as sturdy as more simple versions.
Ah nice to know! Thanks 😁
how are you getting motion blur on a fish eye?
I’ll ask
slow shutter speed
There you go
we had a chicken, good luck in 2025 lads, ben please stop fiddling with the mic stand, Merry Christmas.
Haha I’ve told him about the mic stand. Next time I’m duct taping his hands to the table
i need a bloody fidget spinner or something
Some of those photos came out nice. And I do like color shifts on expired film. I schoot both expired and fresh film . I have a fridge of expired discontinued film. Always use every expired film in lots of light or open up the f stop to let more light in.
Yeah we enjoyed it too, more expired videos coming soon!
Cracking vid lads 🙂 Looking forward to watching some more 🙂
Cheers!
I honestly didn't know photography was such an abyss of a subject until I started shooting film!!
There’s so much to it. We’ve barely scratched the surface.
Merry Christmas, you've had a great year! Slow-cooked beef cheeks 😋
New subscriber here. Most enjoyable thanks.
Thank you! And thanks for subscribing!
@TheFullFrame35mm No thank you. Just looking at your barbican video at the moment . And going to binge watch your other videos over the Christmas. So it was a good time to find you both. Best wishes from Ireland
@ ah nice! Enjoy 😊 🎄
Very sweet thanks guys, happy new year/Christmas - have a good time!
Lets defo do more, maybe annually?
We’ll be in touch 😁 merry Christmas!
The two film canisters may be empty 😂 Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2025
We got the film out! We’re 90% sure it’s already been shot. Hopefully it’s nothing dodgy 😂
@TheFullFrame35mm Get them developed and show the results for a laugh. Dodgy images will double your subscribers 😉
Happy Christmas, Merry New Year!
Cheers! And Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Great photos🤩 I have 2 aps cameras (kodak advantix T 550 & Nikon Nuvis S 2000) and 3 rools. Waiting my vacation to take photos😉
Good plan!
APS film has been around for ages. How could you not have known of it? It was plastered over every single photo lab and airport! When it came out it was a bit of a flop as you got less shots per roll, paid more and had a smaller neg/enlargements. You'd have to of been living under a rock in the 90's to miss it.
I was a child in the 90s. Too busy playing with my Barbie doll mate.
I got this exact model because i liked the aesthetic too much. I'm sad that I can't use it but at least it looks good on the shelf. It's good to hear that you liked it. I wish we get new models like this one. Small, waterproof and easy to use
Yeah a lovely little camera
The contax aps camera was a great camera too…i found an unused roll of aps at my grandmas and really wished i had something to test it on!
There’s always eBay!
The photos look great! They look vintage. I’m going to try APS 😊
The history of film, especially Kodak, is less film for more money. 35mm to 126, 126 to 110, always with imaginary advantages. APS is in the same commercial model. What's more surprising perhaps, is how long some older formats existed. For instance, you could still buy the late-Victorian 116 format film (2 1/2" x 4 1/4") in the mid-1980s. As a kid I can remember an old dowager from the nearby posh part of town, bringing in her antiquated camera to the chemist, who would keep some film on order and load it for her.
Frozen film is really only attacked by gamma rays after decades. Rule of thumb is the slower the ASA, the better film keeps. Professional film lasts less well than amateur stuff, because it had a shorter shelf life and was sold out of a fridge, to be processed after a shoot. Unexposed colour neg and black and white, keep better than transparency. Any film kept in a drawer, especially near heat, is likely to be junk. +1 stop a decade is a good exposure starting point for old film.
Cheers!
It was a well-known fact that all APS cameras leaked. 😂
Whaaaat? 😢😢😢
as in light leak? or water?
😊 aps film is cool! I really like it😉
Same! Thanks for watching
I kinda wished APS was still made. Got an old Fuji APS camera from a relative. It's a small gem actually. Solid built, small size.
Yeah I was surprised by the whole experience of shooting it and the quality of the photos
Try round bridge north thears hundreds
Noted!
Well they're described as blue but they look pretty much the same
Iv seen em all over the place on the countryside, normally on the village roads. Thier there to not mess up nocturnal animals which is such a nice feature to have
So why one but not the others by this aldi? 🤔 the plot thickens
Maybe the maintenance guy only had one of those in his truck and thought ‘fuck going back to the depot it’s 4pm on a Friday’?…let’s not give the street light maintenance team too much credit shall we 😂
Got a good roll, turned out alright! What a fun little camera thats good for a swim 😂🎉
I quite enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
That's a nice jacket mate
Cheers
cheers
love the print!
will be keeping my eyes peepled now. Love the Aldi backlit portraits
Yeah we look whenever we pass an Aldi 😂
You can do C22 film in C41 chemicals at lower temperature-if you run the full C41 temperature the emulsion will melt right off. I've done Agfa CNS from 1977 in C41 chemicals at 75 degrees Fahrenheit with *some* results.
Nice thank you!
Loved my FE and FM cameras. When I started the studio used a colossal Nikon F, like a main battle tank, the motor drive had a separate battery pack you wore over you shoulder.
Nice!
Subbed and liked, I worked in the photography and advertising industries back in the late 80's early 90's. Processed all film types and sizes from 35mm up to 10 x 8 inches. I always get the urge to get a film camera again and shoot some actual film.
Nice! Appreciate the sub! 👍🏻
Can you paste the exact coordinates into a comment or include it in the description? I like to plot these on a topographic and satellite map and look for nearby water.
Not sure the coordinates but address is maps.google.com/maps/place//data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x4879ebf517f244ad:0xb8a1dacfa802dcdb?entry=s&sa=X&ved=1t:8290&hl=en-GB&ictx=111
babe wake up the full frame just made a vid about a purple street lamp this was amazing
😂😂
Just the very best of episodes!!! Thanks so much to all of you guys. A very generous conversation to share. Just what makes RUclips brilliant
Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words fellas. Cool to see one in the UK! Hilarious that Lomo purple makes it green
Thanks for watching! Weirdly I only had lomo purple on me but I think it worked well 👍🏻
Willem’s first purple street light video ruclips.net/video/iICpS1W0hgY/видео.htmlsi=8Kw76RP7VwQAVyen
Hi Mark and Ben. A quest for the purple light that ends up outside ALDI very amusing. A good night out fellas.
We weren’t even looking for one! We happened to be talking about willem’s video and saw this outside an Aldi! Thanks for watching 😁
@@TheFullFrame35mm I was being ironic :-) I just saw his videos and at least you didn't have a problem with traffic and light trails. I also realised that I had seen him before when he bought that scanner. Have a good weekend.
@@colingerard7863 ah hard to tell on here! You too!
Better for the Advanced Amateur, the Nikon L35AW (a.k.a. Nikon Action Touch). i.e. The Nikon has a bit faster f/2.8 lens and it allows you to manually control the Flash and focus (independently or together WITHOUT a reset of those features when the camera is turned off)Just make sure to get one that's been fortified (serviced for its weaknesses AND of course, NEVER had battery leakage; that's a hard stop. Internal battery corrosion has too many pitfalls
Nice tip!
I have some 127 varichrome pan rolls still in the box expired in 1963, i feel better about shooting this film because of this video 😊
Nice! Yeah I’ve got some from 1967 which I now feel much more excited about. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
They for sale?
@@Sennmut nah
Sorry not for sale, I’m an accumulator and user
@@Dwarvenchef You are a wise man!!!!
My dad was born in Glasgow, but grew up further north in Invergordon. He came to Canada when he was 19 or so...I'm not sure why I'm telling you this... oh well. Thanks for the tour! 🙂
Haha! I loved Glasgow, wish I had longer! Thanks for watching 🏴🏴🏴
I've gone through two boxes of Kodak HIE sheet film, expired in 1967. Base fog was at about a half stop, but was able to produce some lovely images.
amazing! We were both surprised by how good the verichrome came out.
@@TheFullFrame35mm I've got another box of HIE from '59 that I will crack open in the Spring... Rains too much here on the we(s)t coast of Canada. I'll most likely pop a video of that experience on YT. Cheers!
Yeah I know the feeling waiting for the right weather, it’s so dreary in the UK 98% of the time. 🇬🇧 will subscribe to you to see that video in the spring! Thanks for watching
@@TheFullFrame35mm Thank you! I subbed to you as well. Keep up the good work!

Im on plane now from Florida, finding you two😂. Hell no, im not leaving Florida. It looks cold and miserable 😂 Fun video guys!
Thanks for watching!
Another great YT vid. I can't believe the results from the Kodak Verichrome ,July 1959 was the month I was born! The Jessops film is probably Agfa, Ilford didn't make colour film.
Yeah I loved the Verichrome! I have some 1967 in my fridge. Yeah I think it was probably Agfa. Google AI knows nothing!
Ilford made colour transparency and colour print film, Ilfachrome and Ilfacolor. The Jessops is unlikely to be Ilford though, as the company had discontinued manufacture by then.
