    For any crew researching this, I've been using is for a couple of years, and changing bags now. The tiny Single Wheels on this are an issue, it does not roll as easily as a double wheel bag does. There's considerable resistance and will not roll easily across carpet, even many thin carpets. This became more a problem after the new LGA terminal opened and some idiot decided concourses need carpet, lol. I've ended up with pain from tugging on this thing. So if you're looking to change from a 2wheel roll aboard to a spinner, the Travelpro Platinum Elite Spinner fixes this issue with double wheels, but is considerably more expensive with leather trim and metal zippers.

    Ended up getting the smaller "deluxe" model for it's size. The Multipurpose is WAY too big to fit under an airline seat, and it made my 21" spinner so top heavy that it was always falling over. If you use a big Rollaboard and J-hook, then the Multipurpose is probably great. If you travel light and nimble like me, then "deluxe" is the way to go.

      Upright, the tote is about 12" tall, but can be squished down to 11". I don't know for sure, but that might be too tall to have it upright. Laying on its back, it's about 10". I think I've stowed similar totes under the seat by laying them on their backs.

    For a pilot doing day hops with the potential of an overnighter, would you recommend this vertical overnighter or the horizontal? Looking for a bag that can store a pair of clothes, my headset, iPad Pro, a toiletry bag, a clipboard and some miscellaneous items such as licences, wipes, sunglasses, chargers, etc. Debating between the vertical/horizontal overnighters as a replacement to a backpack which feels bit unprofessional now, haha. You can definitely use the J-hook to roll the Vertical overnighter in tandem with a larger rollaboard. I don't know if it's something you would want to do all the time, though. For one, if you have a lot of stuff in the overnighter you might overstress the area around the attachment clip on the rollaboard. Second, when you come to a stop the overnighter is going to want to stick out and not remain upright. Lastly, I don't have vertical overnighters in stock and might not for a while because I wasn't happy with the extending handles.

      Underseat dimensions will vary by airline. This bag's dimensions at its widest points (to include the wheels and wheel housings) is 15h x 16w x 10.5d. I don't know if I would get this bag specifically to place under a seat. It would probably fit under most seats, but might run into problems in some seats. I noticed that some space under seats has been taken by USB charging ports which made it more difficult to place a smaller bag than this one under the seat. As I mention in the video, if you have this one packed full it has a very cube-like shape, which isn't the best for wedging under a seat.

The max outer dimensions of the Vertical Overnighter are 17" x 14" x 10". So, it might fit sideways in the bin, but I don't know if the 10" dimension will be the limiting factor. I see what looks like snap-apart sides, but you don't actually open these up as you do in your video for the TP Vertical overnighter. I'm assuming so, but wanted to ask anyway. Also, in the main compartment, does it have the cross elastic bands that hold the clothes in place, as the TP Vertical bag is shown to have. Thanks!

      It actually does not open up much more than what is shown. If you undo the snaps and the Velcro you are able to bend the front down more to make a larger opening, but the front will not open up much more on its own. The main reason for this is the zipper does not go all the way to the bottom of the bag on either side. The little flaps that snap and Velcro into place seem to function as more of way to keep the contents of the bag inside the bag when it's open than as a way to prevent it from opening wider. There are no elastic straps in the main compartment.

    Do you know the measurements including wheels & handle? Trying to find a quality spinner bag that will work for both domestic and international travel in the overhead bins.

      If you include the wheels and top handle the total length of the 21" Spinner is 23".

      Thank you for the quick response. I assume Travel Pro doesn't make a FlightCrew5 spinner that falls under the 21.5 height restriction? Any feedback on the 23" being an issue when traveling?

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      There is just the one spinner in the FC5 line. Some of their other lines have a spinner tote that measures about 18" including the wheels, but you don't get much packing space. Honestly, I don't get any negative feedback about bags being too big, even though many of Travelpro's 21-22" sized bags are actually 22.5 to 23.5". Of course, every airline is different, so do your research and get what you will be most comfortable with. I can't guarantee any bag will fit in every bin or bag sizer.

    So this is advertised as a carry-on luggage but if checked at the gate it would be refused because according to the sellers site it's 23.5 tall with wheels. At $169.99 that's steep for luggage that'll cost you $$ extra at the gate, why not just make it 1.5 shorter and I'd buy it.

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      Travelpro doesn't include wheels and handles in their official measurements, which is why I try to include the actual dimensions on the website. Each airline's carry-on guidelines are different and some might be more strict than others. I've carried this size of carry-on on many trips. But, if you want to be safe, and that's not a bad idea with carry-on limitations only getting smaller, you can go with a smaller bag in the FlightCrew line. Also, the FlightCrew5 line is made for flight crews and I imagine they can get away with slightly larger carry-ons.

    This is a great personal item bag. We like the two separate main compartments, as we pack our fold up toiletry hanging bag in the smaller of the two main pockets. We also carry in one of these a fold up set of wheels so we can wheel two of these if they take our rollaboards away during boarding (they perils of non-revving).

    Will the Jhook on this bag work well with the 16inch overnighter?

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      It will work, but it is probably better to slide it over the extending handle. If you have the Vertical Overnighter on the J-hook, whenever you come to a stop the overnighter will not want to stay vertical because of its wheels. You can pull it along just fine while it is attached to the J-hook though.

    Does the 9 inch dimension include the wheels and the extra bit that sticks out from the laptop zippered area? Wondering if it would fit in the flight kit area of a CRJ (the box next to the Captain and FO)? I have a bag that is 9 inches deep right now that just fits.

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      Thanks for watching! Including the wheels, the bottom is 10.5 inches from front to back. The bottom is also very rigid, so don't count on finessing it into a tight space. You might have a problem getting it into a 9" wide space.

    So do you recommend this as the best of the TravelPro totes or do like the Multi-Purpose tote better?

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      It really comes down to personal preference and how you like to pack. The Flight Tote has two equal-sized main compartments and the Multi-Purpose Tote has one large main compartment. If you have large bulky items, or just like to have most of your stuff in one area, then go with the Multi-Purpose. As of late, I am selling more of the Multi-purpose tote.

      It is winning me over. I recently bought the college-aged daughter the Travelpro FlightCrew5 18" Expandable Rollaboard and she loves it. I am very impressed with it and am weighing which tote to add. Thanks for your detailed reviews of each and your response! I will go with your firm.

    Hello. I love your descriptive videos. I was wondering if you could pair this tote with a 22" Expandable and compare those totes sizes with the 22" expandable roller ones. Regards!

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      The totes pair nicely with the rollaboards and can be slid down the extending handle, or carried using the J-hook attachment. The tote is 15” wide and the rollaboards are 14” wide across the top.

    I'm debating between the flightcrew 5 21" NON-expandable rollabourd and the 19" slim rollabourd. My main concerns are with carry on restrictions and there is no way for me to view these in person to measure them. Would you happen to know the "actual" full demensions of these two carry on including handles, wheels , and pockets? Thanks

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 6 лет назад

      Add 1.5" to the height, .5" to the width, and 1" to the depth to account for handles, wheels, front pockets, etc. So, the 21" would be 22.5 x 14.5 x 9 and the 19" Slim would be 20.5 x 14.5 x 8. Keep in mind the 19" slim does not have a J-hook attachment, back pockets, and only one small front pocket.

      @@christopherhoopes1545 I have this exact issue right now. Which one did you end up getting? I fly globally but think I can get away with the 21 inch. Any advice thanks

    • @christopherhoopes1545
      @christopherhoopes1545 Месяц назад

      @@chrisho3851 I didn't have a lot of time before my trip so I ended up buying both. Turns out if you remove the wheels and brackets (just need a screw driver and 10mm socket) the 21" meets all global measurements. So I also purchased a multi-tool from CRKT that airline friendly (no knife attachment). Only time I had to use to remove the wheels was flying from Thailand to Bali. Ive had this bag for 6 years now and it's been all over the world. Only had to disassemble the one time. Ended up gifting the 19" to my mom since return shipping was almost the price of the bag.

    Do you test the flightcrew 5 series to make sure it fits into domestic airline sizers? Thanks

    • @jeremywells4785
      @jeremywells4785 7 лет назад

      No, I don't. As a general rule, you'll want to add to Travelpro's listed dimensions to include wheels, handles, and front/back pockets. For instance, the 22" Expandable Rollaboard is more like 23.5" x 14 x 10" if you include the top handle and front pockets. If you have any concerns about carry-on size restrictions, I would recommend getting a bag as small as you are comfortable with. The FC5 line has a 21" Rollaboard and an 18" Expandable Rollaboard.
