The Casual Mountain Biker
Добавлен 29 июн 2017
See the trails before you ride! New trails posted as often as possible.
Is Air Chair better than SST, Gabraith's best Northside mountain bike trail?
As good as SST is, Air Chair may provide a more pure mountain bike experience. As Galbraith's trails continue to be made smoother, wider, and with more berms this old school trail may be just what you are looking for.

Does this GoPro Max footage work or not?
Просмотров 3242 года назад
I have been working to find a camera and editing software setup that provides the smoothest video with the least amount of nausea-inducing image distortion. I am shooting this with a GoPro Max 360 camera and using about a 180 degree field of vision which should make it feel more like the real riding experience. I also have used a plugin for Davinci Resolve to help straighten out the image disto...

Bob's Trail: Best Beginner Friendly MTB Trail at Galbraith (Try this fun loop!)
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
Bob's trail is the place to start if you are just building your MTB fitness. It is known as one of the most fun mountain bike trails on Galbraith. On top of that this short loop has only about 500 feet of elevation gain on trail so it will not burn out new riders.

If you are looking to ride the rock drop at SST or ride the trail for the first time this video provides a preview of what is to come. SST is one of the most popular North Side mountain bike trails at Galbraith. If you are in the Bellingham area put this one on your list.
Updated Mohawk Trail, Galbraith Mountain Biking, Bellingham
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 года назад
Mohawk was recently updated with new bigger jumps at the end of the trail. It is still on of the best flowing jump lines at Galbraith, Bellingham. Even though some of the lips can be a bit steep it is still designed for mountain biking and is not a BMX jump park. All of the jumps can be rolled but please jump over the lips so they don't deteriorate.

Riding "Atomic Dog" with Vincent Kimber, Galbraith, Bellingham MTB

The best people in the world can be found out on the trails especially at Galby. We were lucky to run into Vincent Kimber and his crew who were visiting Northern Cascadia from their home back in California In this video Vincent rides Atomic Dog for the first time and is still crazy fast. Cedar Dust Jump Lines, Advanced and Intermediate, MTB POV Galbraith, Bellingham
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.4 года назад
The best place on Galbraith to build your jumping skills is the Cedar Dust Jump Lines. With a beginner, intermediate, advanced, and pro jump line you can work your way up and build your skills safely. While there is a jump track and a pump track in Bellingham neither has the elevation to hit jumps at higher speeds that Cedar Dust has. See the trails before you ride.
Double Down Trail, Bellingham MTB POV, Larrabee, Chuckanut
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.4 года назад
One of several great trails found in the Chuckanut Mountains near Bellingham. This is the other mountain to ride besides Galbraith. The climb road starts at Larrabee State Park. Trails are listed on Trail Forks. This trail has great rock rolls that can be dropped, lots of roots and even a tight jump between trees.
Yo dude! Sick video. You recorded some footage of my friend and I riding SST a few weeks ago, will that dropping soon?
Galbraith has always been intimidating to me, glad to know there are beginner friendly trails there to try. Thanks for sharing.
I'm hitting the pro line at cedar dust and no strander to a lot of speed. I was so confused on how u were able to cary so much speed on a-dog. I can go way faster than I do on that trail but just get scared cuz it's hard to cary speed on that trail.
It's true the smaller berms and rough trail make A-Dog harder to carry speed. That being said you can see Vincent demonstrating there is even more speed to be found on that trail. FYI, I pedal a lot downhill to make up for my average cornering skills.
Love the new camera!
🤟🤟🤟🤘
Aswome video. Where you using a gimbal?
Actually I am using a GoPro Max now.
Hey I just gave you 300 subs
Heck yeah; Thanks! Subbed back.
Awesome Video! First time I saw Spirit Bear in person I couldn't believe how big it was. What's the name of the song you use in your intro?
Thanks! My intro song is "Dr. Momentum". The full version of the song can be found on Y.T.
Hey there brother! Heading out there with a couple buddies June 2nd - 9th. See ya out there!
Heck yeah! Come enjoy the trails up here in Bellingham. What trail systems are you going to ride? There is much more than Galbraith. Although Galbraith is a must.
@@thecasualmountainbiker Honestly man we're still planning that out. Galbraith is definitely at the top of the list but we're open to other suggestions. What would you recommend? Also, being that we're going to not be able to do any digging, is there a local trail building / upkeep group we can donate to? We're definitely not those kooks that go and don't offer some help.
Very good of you! WMBC is the local trail building and MTB advocacy group. You should check out the Chuckanut trail system by Larrabee State Park. Double Black and Double Down are great trails. For a more rugged feel check out North Mountain near Darrington. Brown Pow on the North Side of Whatcom Lake is worth the ride. Its climb trail is one of the best. It is steeper than it looks in my video.
@@thecasualmountainbiker Right on man! Thank you for taking the time out to point me in the right direction. Maybe in June we can all link up and get a ride in. My buddy Justin Niemi has a youtube channel as well with some of our rides on it. Check him out!
No problem. Feel free to DM me on Instagram when you are in town.
😎🤙 When you ride this line, you get the best barrels dude!🤙 You just like....pull in and you just get spit right out.... and you just drop in just smack the lip WAHPAH!!! Drop down....SE...WAHHBAHEEE!!!@ and then after that... you just drop in, ride the barrel and get pitted so pitted!
Such good flow!
Nice, I am gonna try this one out tomorrow hopefully I don’t fall
Great! Let me know how it went. Also check with WMBC to make sure it is open. The tower was getting logged earlier this week.
@@thecasualmountainbiker okay definitely will.
Good try bro
Thanks; there are always great riders out there that help push us a little out of our comfort zones.
@@thecasualmountainbiker we should shred something someday. I live just down the road a bit from bham.
Message me on Instagram and I let you know when and where my group and I are riding. @quillblackmtb
@@thecasualmountainbiker now I gotta get the gram gram.
That scorpion drop is sooo easy for me. I hit it blind. It's more of a mind game
You are very right. It is not as bad as it looks. In fact, everything at Galbraith is designed to be safe. WMBC is anti-janky.
Nice video mate. Trail actually looks super fun. Nice video... :D
Thanks!
I've been riding Galbraith for years and doing laps on Bob's has always been one of my favorites. I could lap that trail all day.
Galbraith is my home zone, and I ride those trails a lot, but I'm really enjoying your take on them. Something approachable and just about as inclusive as you can get with your portrayal. Nice work!
Thanks Steven for the positive comments!
Bob's is on my list of favorites. Thanks for the video Twitch!
Go pro always looks slower, I know that trail well....you were cookin! Well done!
Thanks! It was definitely my top gear.😬
Love the CyberPunk song
You lose speed if you drop the rock as opposed to roll it. That's the only way I've been able to clean that step up
If that works better for you feel free. I drop SST at the end of my latest video and do finally clear that step-up. I will admit I had to send it quite a bit further than I had done in the past. Thanks and good riding to you.
Awesome video! I can't wait to go try these trails. I just moved to Maple Falls, do you know of a good list of trails?
Thanks! Maple Falls has trails but everyone is very hush-hush about them. I think most are unsanctioned. If you find a local rider up there you will be set. However, in my opinion, the best trails are down in the Bellingham area. Galbraith, the Chuckanut mountains, and North side of Whatcom Lake (Chanterelle trail area) are great trail systems that have easy access. There are other more raw trail systems all around Whatcom county too if you can find them. My trail preview videos are a good list of trails that you should definitely ride. The trails are popular for good reasons. Welcome to the area!
@@thecasualmountainbiker Awesome! I used to DH and I was a cat 3 road. Did the first Transition DJ/Park comp in like 06 in Renton. Been to Whistler 100+ times but usually passed through Bham. I helped build A line and B like out at exit 27 on I90 like 20 years ago. Service manager for years at shop in Redmond, #1 Norco US dealer, shimano tech center, we sponsored the first woman enduru races around the sound about 10 years ago. I was always out being a sideline tech. All until I got wrecked by a car biking to work 7 years ago. So I'm just trying to get back into riding again after a ton of surgery, and am coming in totally fresh. I have been wanting to get out and ride again, but it was your video that made it certain, next month I'm getting something, just not sure what because everything is out of stock. Thanks for sharing man. Maybe I'll see you out on the trails! Cheers
@@abcd-jl2tl Dude, you sound legit! Sorry to hear about your accident. It obviously took quite a bit from you. Here's to getting some of it back. When you get your bike and you are feeling good to go hit me up. We have a great riding crew with a very wide range of skills so if you want to hit green, black, or blue lines we are pretty much game.
@@thecasualmountainbiker I'd love to! I can wrench on all kind of bikes to, I have all the tools. I'm a disability so I have a lot of free time. If you ever need any help let me know I got you. Happy trails
@@thecasualmountainbiker I've been toying around with the idea of just working on bikes out of my house for free, just to get to know the 360 community. Possibly even like work on a barter system to get myself a piece-to-gether. I have bearing pullers for frame/wheel rebuilds, I can do hydraulics, suspension, electric junk, and anything that uses a braided cable. It was 2014 so when I got hit. I was servicing 11 speed. 12 isn't much different. If you or any friends need any help I'd be more then happy. I can install new parts, or help anyone figure out what would be compatible on their bikes if they have upgrade questions. Or just do some really good 1 on 1 bike work. I could even like help teach people. I dunno, I just want to get back out riding haha. Moved here when corona started so I haven't really met anyone. Not trying to spam you or silicate anything. Have a good one!
Javie’s pro tips 😂👌
Wow thats fun but hard trail
Yeew! Gnarly! Awesome trails and ride 🤙🔝
Thanks! I am lucky to live here.
Sick video! Good work my dude 😀
Considering you are fighting with every dudebro with a GoPro on the mountain, this channel has instantly become my favorite for prepping for trails. No music, jump cuts, or side notes. Just start to finish high quality footage and informative commentary throughout. Keep up the great work!
Brady, Thanks! Sorry for the slow response. Let me know there is a trail you want me to review.
Sick vid, you should make a GoPro setup video. Do you use a gimbal?
Thanks! I have a Gopro 8 mounted to the chin bar on my full face helmet. No gimbal but your head naturally works like a gimbal. I am running hypersmooth 2.0 on superview as well.
@@thecasualmountainbiker Nice, my full face has mesh that I can’t stick zip ties through so I gotta work with the chesty
Great video! I’m going up to Bellingham this weekend specifically chuckanut and have to try this trail.
How did you like Double Down?
Quill Black's MTB POV Got delayed till Tuesday so I’ll have to wait to give a review
It’s funny cause I live like 2 mins away from hit lol
Well you are lucky. Live 20 minutes North of Galbraith.
nice guide.. everytime i ride sst i kinda want to roll on that rock..hesitate everytime. i feel like im gonna ride over the berm.
Thanks! As for the roll; you won't gain as much speed as you think so the turn is actually more mild than you imagine. I thought the same thing before riding it. Same is true for Radical Dragon and the drop at the top of Scorpion. They are all slower (and safer) than they look.
Please take this video down.
Any particular reason why?
This looks like a very fun trail. Unfortunately I probably will never get there because I don’t live near there
Maybe some day you will take an epic MTB tour.
Quill Black's MTB POV hopefully
I rode past SST the other day. I'm still new to the mountain and the sport in general but anxious to ride more of Galbraith. Your videos are very helpful to me.
Nice! That made my day. What is your favorite trail so far?
@@thecasualmountainbiker I've had a real blast on Cedar Dust. Haven't explored much towards the tower side though. Hoping to ride up and explore tomorrow if my wife allows me. Lol
@@thecasualmountainbiker I think today might be the day I finally hit. Just finished planning my route on TRAILFORKS!
@@TheXander9114 well heck yeah! Have at it!
@@thecasualmountainbiker I had at it a little too hard. Lol. Made almost all the way to backdoor but slammed into a tree and fractured my jaw. My season ender. Lol.
These are great trails
I feel lucky to have good trails so close. How are the trails near you?
Quill Black's MTB POV the nearest purpose built mtb trail in an hour north from where I live so not too close but it’s barable
@@charliemtbaustralia5308 Rough! Well maybe the riders in your community can form a MTB advocacy group and build some trails. Either way enjoy your rides!
Hi quill my dad rode this trail today I think
It's a great trail! Did ride the rock roll?
WOW! AMAZING VIDEO! I liked and subscibed. Do you mind checking out my channel? It would mean a lot!
Sure, will do.
Solid Channel! Nice job! 👌
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Sup man I rode mohawk that day but it was later afternoon
Is that a Capra?
Yeah, Capra Base heavily upgraded and setup as a mullet. I wanted aluminium and they only offered it in the base level at the time. If I was buying one now I would get the the Capra Shred.
Quill Black's MTB POV cool
A bee in the helmet on Honeycomb Canyon? How appropriate. Wow, that rock garden looked legit. Definitely being added to the bucket list. 👍
Ha! I didn't even think about that with the bee.
Nice👌🏼🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Really enjoyed the vid 👊 I was also out this week with a faster rider and my next vid will be all about how that can accelerate your progression! Subbed 👍 so I can check out some more vids later!
Thanks! I checked out your videos and they are well made. I am interested in how Scotland's terrain differs from my local trails in the Pacific Northwest.
Quill Black's MTB POV All I ever ride is roots and rocks 😆 no trail centre riding / bike park riding within a couple of hours for me 🤷♂️
@@TheExtraCrank It is really nice having developed trails nearby. Although, more natural trails can be phenomenal as well.
Nice Video i will be happy if you subscribe me to
