I like to think the character of Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) died at the end of this movie and was reborn 14 years later in the form of Peter (Ron Livingston) in the movie Office Space.

Easily one of my top 5 favorite films ever made! So rich with life and it's just plain fun. Dunne is perfect as the lead.

The star of the movie also produced it 🎬 Gotta love it!

I have to say that Pebbel's reasoning, trying to excuse Jonathan's bad behavior, is utterly specious (in all three instances). "Yes, I know that he betrayed you, but it forced you to go out on your own, and look at what success you've had as a result." Nice try, except: 1. Jonathan wasn't psychic, and had no possible way of knowing how the future would turn out for any of these people, 2. he certainly didn't do what he did for the PURPOSE of helping them; he was helping only himself, and thinking only of himself, and 3. he couldn't even use the "it's nothing personal; it's just business" excuse. These people weren't just professional colleagues; the two men were his good friends (especially Fred Amiel), and Georgia was his lover. The Book of Matthew says it all: "It must needs be that evil shall come; but woe to the man by whom the offense comes."
