America - Simon & Garfunkel Cover
#paulsimon #simonandgarfunkel #america
Paul Simon has written too many good songs to count, but America, off of the Simon & Garfunkel album Bookends, is one of my absolute favorites.
It has a cinematic feel to it's story telling ("And the moon rose over an open field")
The orchestration is majestic and dynamic (Those drums?? That bass playing?? The french horn?? So good).
It's hopeful and forlorn ("I'm empty and aching and I don't know why" contrasts beautifully with the undulating "All come to look for America")
Listening to Garfunkels harmonies is a masterclass. Where other singers might just follow the melody line in thirds, he skips and jumps around and always finds the more interesting...

Просмотров 51114 дней назад
#gerryrafferty #rightdowntheline A few weeks ago I got a text from Tony (steel guitar) that said: "Hey! We should record a cover of Gerry Rafferty's 'Right Down The Line', and then surprise Thom (ld vox) and get him to sing it!" And that's exactly what we did. Please enjoy our take on Right Down the Line! Special thanks to my good friends Thom & Tony for lending their talents to this song! Thom...

Bus Stop - The Hollies (Cover)
Просмотров 4782 месяца назад
#thehollies #busstop According to Graham Nash’s autobiography “Wild Tales”, The Hollies went to meet a so called 15 year old (though some accounts say he was 19) songwriter named Graham Gouldman. He played them “Bus Stop”, which they were immediately excited to put their Hollies spin on. Nash asked “Uh, before we go… got anything else?”. Gouldman started playing “Look Through Any Window” which ...

Somebody Made For Me - Emitt Rhodes 4 Track Cassette Tape Cover

#EmittRhodes #4TrackTape #Portastudio This is my tribute to the great Emitt Rhodes. I definitely felt even more of a connection to him as I holed up in my recording room and tried to recreate his music! I referenced this interview with Emitt and Tape Op magazine to learn as much as a could about his recording process. A very worthy read: desertskiesmusic.com/EmittRhodes.pdf 0:00 - Emitt Rhodes ...
Recording A Song To 4 Track Cassette Tape - Butchie's Tune (A Lovin' Spoonful Cover)
Просмотров 7275 месяцев назад
#4track #cassette #TheLovinSpoonful #ButchiesTune And now something for a little different. I decided to record this great Lovin' Spoonful track using my Tascam Portastudio 424 to see if I could get close to that 60's analog sound. I came across this song when doing my last video and it had the requisite "4 track-iness" so it was the perfect candidate for this experiment! 0:00 - Intro 0:19 - Th...
You Didn't Have To Be So Nice - The Lovin' Spoonful (Cover)

Possibly my favorite Spoonful song. Random Musings: * My mom received an Autoharp as a birthday present in the mid 90's, which I promptly commandeered and have to this day :) * Don't be alarmed by the panning! I think the 60's aesthetic of hard panning things left and right is cool, so I kept that in this mix. * I love the "felt more than heard" guitar work of Zal Yanovsky on this track. Everyb...
Crimson And Clover - Tommy James & The Shondells (Cover)

#crimsonandclover #tommyjames #theshondells I continue on my pursuit of covering my favorite songs from my formative years as a 60's obsessed 7th grader in the 90's. It's been fun for me to relive these songs, forensically pick them apart, hear things I've never heard in them before, and try to reconstruct them. I hope you enjoy!

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer - Adam Mormolstein
Your voice is beautiful! It is perfect for this song. So glad you get it, like me.
sounds like a mix of george harrison and t rex with a sprinkle of wilco
Wow, I’ll take that comparison any time!
This is a very nice cover? is it about this song that makes the harmonies so distinctive? Sometimes it zigs when you would expect it to zag.
Oh I love this song! Great recording. All the elements sound fantastic. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Tom!
Really good! The bass playing is superb, almost as good as the vocals!
You’re too kind! Thank you for listening 😄
@@adammormolsteinmusic - I love this song. I actually got turned on to through the band Yes -- who did a very energetic cover of the song in 1970 or so.
Wow! Great job. Working in analog can be really stressful if you're used to a DAW. Just got a Fostex 4-track. Haven't used one of those in 35 years... 😅 Gonna be interesting...
Yeah, analog is a trip, ha! Happy recording to you :)
Oh man! The first video of yours i saw was the cover of Butchie’s Song…then i discovered this Emmitt Rhodes cover, wow! I’m a huge fan of his. Excellent job here! Wow. I am learning a lot about the capabilities of the 424mkii. It seems like if i plan well, I really can use just four tracks to make a full mix. What article are you referencing here? How exciting a master chef revealed his recipies!
Wow, well done! I have the same machine, my experiments sound lovely to me but I’d like to learn to get recordings to sound better. Do you usually record things in the +3 to +6 zone to eliminate hiss? If so, I think i am too conservative! Great job, thanks for sharing.
Thanks man! As far as hiss, I usually just follow what the manual suggests: "The average record level should be at 0, but occasional peaks up to +6 are acceptable" Other tips to eliminate hiss: * Make sure you're using High Bias Type II tape (as opposed to Type I) * Set the tape speed switch to "HIGH" * Set the Dolby Noise Reduction (DBX NR) switch on the back to "ON"
Great job! Love it!!
Thank you!!
Hey Adam, great video. n It sounds really authentic and warm. Well done. Paul.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@adammormolsteinmusic Adam, your an awesome musician, singer and arranger. Very well done dear friend. Love and light from Bonnie Scotland. Paul.
Fantastic brother!
Wow, simply WOW!
Thanks for listening!
Great job!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Mom

You're quick on the draw, haha! Thank you :)
This is nothing short of magnificent. Emitt is a lost gem of an artist, its truly staggering the amount of talent he had at such a young age and melodic fortuity. Really is a damn shame he died he wasnt old, he was older but really shouldve had a lot more time. I remember him saying something very heartbreaking while i was watching a trailer for Rainbow Ends album he released in 2016. He said "I hope this sells so i can afford health insurance, before I die" he laughed it off but still was very depressing.
Brilliant again.
Very nice. You're a talented musician, man.
Thank you so much 😀
10 out of 10. Superbly done.
Such fond memories of Emitt"s first album and being able to see you try to recreate an actual track and what it took for both you and Emitt initially to capture the song - simply amazing . . . no simply is not the right word, but amazing certainly fits! Thank you Adam for working through this. My first visit to your site.
Thanks James, that's nice of you to say!
My brother and I also have a Tascam 4 track cassette machine. Been making miles and miles of tape recordings for years. Your version of Emitt's best song was perfection. Of the first three lps his debut is my favorite. What a genius he was.
Emitt's first album is most definitely a masterpiece!
Thank you, enjoyed so much. You replicated my memory perfectly!
Glad you enjoyed it!
supercool
Wow! What a great cover of a great song! I love your whole production sound. The Tele sounds great! And your harmonies! Thank you!
Thanks requesting this one Tom. It was a really fun challenge to learn!
Great job, Adam!
Thanks for listening
Great cover! Sounds really good🎶🎶🎶🐒

Wonderfull Work you Made👍😉
Thank you!
¡ Excelente versión, la mejor que he visto y escuchado! Gracias por el aporte.
¡Gracias!
Great performance! As good as the original, one of my all favorite songs.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
very good , you should watch video of Nokie Edwards , used finger tip / nail for that sound you are missing
Is that a “Yes It Is” quote at the end? Always enjoy your covers!
Why yes it is, “Yes It Is”! Good ear. I figured one 60s song with volume swells deserved to be put with another.
Nicely done!
Thanks!
this is so good! love this song and this is a great cover
Yes, one of my favorite songs! Thanks for the kind words.
Love
Thanks Sundlof! Always good to hear from you 😊
Great cover!
Thanks for listening :)
Emitt Rhodes really was beyond talented, he was a pioneer and god of home-recording and his melodies were nothing short of genius and the way he structured the song its impossible not to get hooked, truly a forgotten and criminally under appreciated genius.
No question about it. His self-titled album is a pop masterpiece!
This is a Paul Simon song. He sold it for 100 bucks when he as at a pretty low spot in England. Was a pretty good size hit, and Paul learned not to sell his music.
I knew Paul Simon had written this with Bruce Woodley, but didn't realize he sold it for only $100. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent cover for an excellent song!
Hey, I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for listening!
wow this video is beautifully made. camera and lighting is great and of course the song is amazing too. thanks for uploading
Thank you 😊 Glad you enjoyed!
Great! Really clean and rhythmical
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Wow! This is incredible! You are a natural teacher! I love the flow and how well you've combined all the intricate pieces that make up the amazing final outcome!
Thanks Jacqui!!☺
Love it! You really captured the vibe of the original recording. I love the Ventures Live in Japan and Nokie Edwards is on fire!
Thank you sir! Live in Japan is a killer album
I love this cover and your production sound overall. Can’t wait for your next video. Would love you hear your take on You Were On My Mind by We Five someday.
Thanks Tom, that's a huge compliment coming from you! We Five's version of You Were On My Mind is excellent, I'll have to work it into the video pipeline.
So good. And so ‘close’ to the original! Fantastic ~ Emitt could only be impressed. 😊
You're too kind, thank you!
I absolutely love this video!! I’m a huge fan of Emitt’s work! And this video is everything! And very inspiring (: thank you for sharing!!
This is amazing! Emitt is one of my musical heroes, I remember finding that Tape Op interview a few years ago and it was like finding the holy grail for how Emitt recorded. Great work!
Thanks for kind words. That Tape Op article is definitely a treasure!
Nice Job! Emmit was a BIG influence on my studio work,
