Fire is rated around 1100° C (2012° F), well over the rated sprinkler head in this garage, and there are many different kinds of rated sprinkler heads. The amount of air is the amount of pressure that is in a sprinkler system, in a dry system like this one it is made up of both water and air. The alarm won’t kick in automatically, the loss of water pressure will activate either a loss of pressure supervisory on the fire alarm panel or will send a signal to the fire panel saying that the parking level is in alarm for the sprinklers. And tbh I don’t think this is testing at all, I think they were goofing around lmao
I don’t think that sprinkler system is to code. I can’t tell for sure but the beams look like they are space too far apart to be considered obstructed constructed. If so, these sprinklers need to be installed in every beam space with their deflectors no more than 12” down from the deck

Beams within 7 feet are considered obstructed construction. However, they can be further than 7 feet apart if the total square footage of the pocket is less than 900 sqft. That's in the US though.

It's an older system, nowadays it activates when there's substantial rise in heat, depending on what kind of heat rating. Heat detectors also help in finding hotspots or rise in heat at specific locations throughout a structure. But the fire command station is where all alarms would be coming in to and where to send out public address signals to people within the structure and its stairways.
And he's right, heat will travel up and set off all the alarms...and the sprinkler system isn't meant to actually fight the fire, but to bring down the levels of heat until the fire department can arrive. This is why these systems need to be tested periodically for performance. Draining the sprinkler system then refilling it and checking for leaks and pressure. Only certified people are allowed to do that, as well as basic maintenance and overseeing the testing of all its components.
Different systems use bulbs with vastly divergent heat tolerances, some ditching the bulbs entirely. This system is most likely used more of a way to supress a fire that would engulf the building and potentially damage surrounding buildings too. Hopefully they have smoke detectors put in to alert them of a fire before it gets to that point so they can try to extinguish it or gtfo.

That same system has a central station which also monitors incoming alarms and will contact you upon the signal of a real alarm, as well as the fire department. Close, but don't lock doors, take what's important, kets/ phone, and make sure everyone is gone from the floor by visually checking the floor in all areas or known areas of work/ occupancy. Once everyone is outta there, get a head count of all occupants. Give info to fire department chief.

In this case it seems it wasn’t a standard 155 degree head but more likely a 200 or higher. All these factors are engineered into the system design and the authority having jurisdiction has final say (usually local fire Marshall) here in the states. If a car fire were to happen the temps would be far higher than that flame and the heat would collect and set that off faster. I will say Though that because the size of those beams placing it under the beam was unnecessary and if they spaced the heads accordingly the ceiling would act as a better heat shield/collector leading to a quicker activation.
People saying there's a delay have no clue what they're talking about. You can clearly see once the sprinkler head activates there's water on the ground instantly as the installation/sprinkler pipe is charged with water. The sprinkler glass bulb is heat activated from a small bubble inside the glass bulb expanding and breaking the bulb once the head reaches its operating temperture. There's different temperature rated heads for all different enviroments. The only way there would be a delay would be if this was a pre action system which are typically used in high water sensitive areas. Also use the waste and test drain to test the sprinkler system ffs 😂
Dry and reaction systems would cause a delay in activation. And since they are in a parking garage I'd say it's a dry system because preaction will require 2 devices before water will flow

The air could simply be from the fact that code and regulations are never kept up to standard in other countries how we'd expect them to. Delayed response also tend to be cheaper, at least from what I've seen.

They are all single use. The sprinkler has a glass bulb that holds the water in and when the bulb gets hot enough the glass melts/shatters, releasing the water. After this they would close the supply valve, open the main drain to drain the system, then unscrew the head and screw a new one into place, then opening the supply valve until water comes out of main drain again, then close main drain and the system will fill back to full pressure.
If it’s a dry system it’s pulling fresh water in from the city like a shower or sink. If it’s a wet system like what you’re thinking of, that waters been sitting in that pipe for years.
