I live near here and didn't realise how big the site really was. It closed as a golf club before I moved from Blurton unfortunately.

Makes me very sad to see this. Learned to play golf properly here in 1988 thanks to one Mark Shyrane who was the assistant at the clubhouse back then. When Jack Barker Ltd took over from SOT they completely ruined the layout and the views and , like Keele (always a very fine municipal course but now a sort of neglected nature reserve like Goldenhill). Obviously, it will never be a golf course again but wouldn’t it be lovely if some philanthropist would buy it and donate it to the people as a nature reserve, with the necessary protection and facilities that that requires? Wishful thinking I’m afraid…

I lived at cloughall road 32 years ago. I loved a walk through the park it was so beautiful. So shocked and upset at seeing what a mess it is now. Granted the trees needed to be cut down for safety reasons but all the turf is ripped up so sad to see this. I was born and bred here and lived here for 42 years.

I lived in Elworth as a little girl so I know Sandbach it's very beautiful. Happy memories really enjoyed watching that. Live in Chester now it's all very beautiful.

Considering Hanley is suppost to be the highlight of Stoke on Trent it does not say much for the rest of the city. The Sentinel compared Stoke on Trent to Detroit in the US but personally i think Detroit is a descent busy metropolitan city compared to this dump. There is alot of lovely buildings and architecture around Hanley but our council wont spend any money to preserve them or even attract business to the centre to use them. 9:51 knowing our council they will most likely just leave them until they fall down themselves. 11:12 Stoke on Trent Councils version of the new public toilets in the centre of Hanley. Hanley used to be a great place to go to especially around the christmas period with all the high street shops we used to have, city centre used to be packed with people back in the day.

Harecastle tunnel is brilliant just make sure you wrap up warm as the fans in there blow and it's freezing. But it does that cause of the fuel from the canal boats. That little house is where canal and river trust is and if you get stuck in the tunnel by canal boat you have blast your horn 3 times. Glad you found the tow rope “scars” interesting, just imagine how many multiple decades it took for the rope to rub into the cast iron to create just one. That excess water flowing under that wooden footpath into the canal between Reginald Mitchell way and Harecastle is overspill from the old flooded Victorian coal mines. Just over that embankment is Goldendale pool where the pump house was sited to supply cooling water to the Goldendale iron foundry where the landmark statue now resides. The “quarry” as you put it used to be where the sewerage works was, now owned by Land Recovery and used for storage, there used to be several massive brick circular structures probably at least 30 feet in diameter with a central pipe and two arms that turned slowly and sprayed water into the vessel which had gravel in it, I assume this was the final clean up stage of the water and those two big overhead pipes with the fan shaped guards supplied the water. The mini “Niagara falls” is to control the canal level and is a spillway, the level can be raised or lowered accordingly. I think the water runs off into the Fowlea brook / river Trent but not 100% sure. The canal in the area is naturally that ochre/orange colour due to the high iron content of the local marl used by James Brindley in the mid 1700’s to line the canal during construction. We were residents of Unity Way from 1976 to 1985. Phil Sherman was a near neighbour, and a colleague for 8 years at GEC Kidsgrove from 1982 until we emigrated to Perth, Australia in 1990. Phil told me about the Butt Lane videos. We have since watched your other videos on Kidsgrove. Most of my extended family lives in the Kidsgrove area. If you meet a Coates, Kirkham or McGough, they are probably related. I grew up in Tunstall. I was there in June last year. I could have cried at the state of the High Street and town. I watched your video on the Mow Cop " Killer Mile" I ran it twice in the 80's. Best time 7.32 (22nd place). Good to see it has been revived. There are many nice areas of Kidsgrove. The small pottery workshop belonged to Abe Bancroft and it was( talk oth hill pottery). I spent many hours there in the mid to late 60s. I used to help in the workshop making slip for the casting of the tea pots, vases, tea caddys etc. At the upperside of the building was the was were the two kilns were,a large glaze kiln and a smaller biscuit kiln for first firing, many times sat at the side of the kilns watching and waiting for them to come up to temperature this done by viewing temperature bars that were visible through a small peep hole at the top of the front door. During school hols I spent many hours in the workshop, most of the products were taken to a warehouse at the back of Prices teapots middle port.

Foxholes as it's locally known is actually called Merelake Road. It links, Talke to Alsager on the Audley Road not far from Alsager golf club. The "Foxholes" is basically the part of the lane to the joinery, possibly nicknamed after one of the farms which was, called Foxholes Farm. Largely originally farms and farm cottages, but also a part of the Caldwell estate in the past I believe. .
