The main difference between WAP and Juicy is that 357 was less dependent on the extreme sexual expression but Cardi(and most current female artists) have to keep pushing that narrative more and more no matter how great their lyrics are. I read she writes her songs , produces them , plays piano , has a perfect pitch . She was the youngest artist ever to write , produce and perform a number one song ( foolish beat ). I think she was maybe 15 with that number one hit. If you really think about she was super talented ( still is ) and I guess she dances too ! I’m thinking maybe she didn’t continue the success she had with her first two albums because her songs just weren’t that good. I think she should have gotten with a few writers and co write some songs . I kind of think she didn’t grow with the fans if that makes sense. Also , didn’t Mariah’s debut come out 1990 maybe around the same time Debbie would have her 3-4th album ? Mariah also writes all of her songs and produces etc. but Mariah’s voice is just out of this world. Mariah also had a ton of promotion with Sony records. Mariah was very covered up with her first 3-4 albums as well bc the label didn’t want to sexualize her. I do think R&B was becoming more popular when Mariah came out and pop kind of phased out if that makes sense. I do think if Debbie would have co wrote with Babyface and other writers she would have kept hitting it big. I think times changed and she didn’t
