Yes. For me it's more dangerous than alcohol even though alcohol can trigger one. I actually had a terrifying horror seizure 5 years ago from a caffeine overdose. I remember going into the basement with my little zong and grinder after work and was bored of smoking in my room. then I remember being down their smoking for about 20 minutes listening to music trying to relax from a shit day then I see the lights appear on and I was woken up at 10pm lying on the ground in the dark in a small pool of blood. What's even weirder is I get up after I seize to experience the high of my brain restarting so I'm very confused trying to do things and talking gibberish. 4hrs is gone from my memory that day but i do remember fractions of things like weird dreams unconscious. There was evidence I smoked a cigarette, put it out on the floor, because I don't smoke inside. I smoked out of my broken bong I landed on because the next day I checked the bowl peice and it had new weed in jt and chunks of glass. I even placed the bong back on the ground amd laid righ back on it in the same position all while in the dark. I even placed my grinder and weed and hid them in weird places. I remember taking a lot of shrooms recently and thought about that some aftermath of some seizures over a decade and fr got a flashback of one image of that one night. I was lying on the ground n it was like I was laying infront of a mirror and I was looking at me staring into my own eyes and I can see i was sweating and it was so weird. Unfished basement too which made it creepier. I wasn't scared though but just purely confused and exhausted, I could care less if I was laying in dog shit tbh, that's how exhausted ypu get. I do consume caffeine still but in the tinestest amounts, some days I won't even get any. The caffeine I get is from things like soda.

I was recently diagnosed with Psychogenic Seizure activity, and at first, I thought they were saying that I faked these seizures which I wasn't. They explained that they were not accusing me of faking these seizures, and that these were seizures, but they weren't going to treat these seizures with Benzos like Versed, or Ativan, but they did give me some medications. I don't have any mental illnesses, however the last year, I've had many traumatic events. Including my health deteriorating, and that's what they think has caused these seizures. I'm very medically fragile, relying on a ventilator to breathe, a feeding tube to eat, and the little bit of vision that I have is going, as they can't treat what's happening with my eyes. Nobody has diagnosed me with a psychiatric illness, but we're working on the Psychogenic Seizures. I seriously thought they were telling me that I had Munchausen Syndrome, but when I told the neurologist all of this, he was shocked that I had been thinking that was what they were saying about me. I still hate telling people I'm having Psychogenic Seizures, but It's what I have, and I have to accept it, and then accept the help my therapist is giving me for it.

I have epilepsy and I can 100% confirm that high consumption of caffeine triggers seizures. Caffeine decreases GABA (the calming neurotransmitter) in the brain while increasing Glutamate (the excitatory neurotransmitter). This is the exact opposite of what antiepileptic drugs such as Lamotrigine and Benzodiazepines do. I've had 2 surgeries due to falls suffered on days when I drank 3-4 cups of coffee. Today I'm caffeine free and seizure free.

Caffeine is bad period! It’s highly addictive and disturbs sleep patterns. It stresses the body out causing it to go into fight or flight mode, that’s where the energy comes from. Now, combine caffeine with sugar, that’s even worse for the Brain! All these things are very likely to trigger Epileptic seizures

Thanks for the share. This is not a common way of looking at this episodes. I do think that the best is a conjuntion of psycotherapy and psychiatry. Do any of you have the light sensitivity? A strobe in your head sometimes when you are in bed? In my case it changes the way i feel the world, becomes frames of reality. And inside, yeah strobes. The breathing helps to keep control. This is not an emotional tandrum state, it can be triggered by emotions, or stress, or..just being tired. But its the way the brain reacts to those...

He needs to confront his anxiety through exposure therapy because he has pushed some things way deep down inside of himself. I suffer from both epileptic & nonepileptic . However I also have had a long history of opioid abuse disorder due to being prescribed opiates at age 11 and I also had repeated trauma of a specific sort in early childhood and again as an adult multiple times. Now whenever I get EEGs they say that they see some epileptiform waves in the brain but they wanna see more to prove that my recent "EPISODE" was epileptic or "PSEUDO" and by that they mean I think you're faking for drugs. I always disclose the info myself about all diagnosis and my addiction history as I am clean now but I have just as many seizures wjen I'm clean or if I rellapse. And I know the info n is in my chart and my seizure are Atypical so they present in different ways at times and I have long periods of post ictal sleep and Dr's and hospital staff assume I'm high and faking. I know that the addiction is related to the psychogenic seizures and anything that occurs in the brain wether it is electric or phyisio- chemical like emotions and such is physical . I say it all the time it doesn't matter that much whether it's a non or epileptic because mental health IS PHYSICAL HEALTH. THE BRAIN IS AN ORGAN AND NEEDS PHYSICAL ATTENTION. Be it through medication, neurofeedback, therapy of all sorts , asmr and so on. I am on SSDI for my seizure disorder which is recognized as both a general seizure disorder with epileptic and dissociative seizure which is technically a conversion disorder which is when a person suffers from a physical illness due to severe mental depression and or trauma amd conversion disorder is responsible for the most deaths WORLDWIDE. Depression turns to stress turns to cancer , heart disease, vascular disease, poor eating, diabetes, addiction,, suicide, The truth is 28-36% of all epileptic people have psychogenic non epileptic seizures (pnes) and it's real. I have literally been ABUSED AND ASSSAULTED in ambulances and hospitals by so called health care PROFESSIONALS trying to get me to come to or stop pretending my breaking smelling salts and amonial or amoylnitrate under my nose and eyes, punching my chest when sternum r I bring didn't work, pinching my nipple, slapping my face, piercing my toes with a needle tip, pinching fingers til they bled. All things witnessed by family members who nurses and doctors convinced momentarily that I was faking and times I've been fully aware but unable to respond. Idk why people are so mean to us and I even tell them please no benzodiazepines and I have a medically recalled license. What I'm saying is that it may start out as a no epileptic and because they're trying to smack the sense into you or yelling or pinching ,it causes you to go into am epileptic one especially while you're heart rate amd blood pressure are up from the previous seizure. Yo I aren't supposed to be loud or overly stimulating to someone who is post ictal and you definitely are never allowed to punch the chest of your patient when their stats are fine and they are stable and breathing and normal blood pressure but you just want them to wake up and leave your ER because they have a diagnosis that you don't like and a history of addiction even though their urinalysis is clean of all illicit substances. Especially if you know trauma Is at the root of both disorders. I wanna sue so bad. I don't ever wanna go to the hospitalno matter what because of this dr.

That's terrible. I relate to this too. Was in the ambulance with my FAMILY yet no one stopped the abuse. They all thought I was faking for no reason. Like it's not like I do drugs. I was 18 still in school and I have no reason to be faking a seizure. I was completely aware of my surrounding yet unable to move freely. It completely broke me. They mishandled me, pricked me painfully and kept telling me to talk. It was awful.

I can help you! You pushed your problems way deep down inside and it manifested into seizures kinda like how people die from grief. You need to deal in order to heal and mental suppression drugs only makes the PNES seizures worse. I developed new forms of exposure therapy that cures PNES completely. Sometimes I have to get people to testify or face their abuser in a safe environment but it cures the seizures every time!

I actually had seizure triggered by coffee... I went to sleep late so i ahd my treshold for siezures already lowered, but i'd be okay if i did not drink that coffee, that triggered generalized seizure. How do i know it was caffeine? Bcus like 2 weeks later i had normal sleep and in the work i drank a green tea in the morning and i got panic attack. Similar to what happend before the seizure that day i drank coffee. Sadly no more caffeine for me.

Yes same with me. I had my first seizure attack in 2013 and then took medication but when I started doing job I used to drink alot of coffee during working hours that triggered my seizure and I had one and medications started again. I somehow managed the caffeine intake habit however it started going bad again coz I started intake of caffeine and again had a sezuire but with very minor harm. Now I've sweared not to take caffeine as it is not made for us at all. I used to have some kind of mental confusion as well usually while having dinner

She needs exposure therapy from a psychologist and she needs to face whatever happened to her because she has pushed her problems way down deep inside. PNES is kinda similar to how grief effects people physically. I help girls testify against their abuser’s in court and it cures these seizures 100%! Psychiatrist’s will only give her mental suppression drugs and that only makes these seizures worse! I am a expert so please trust me!

I have this, and it sucks ass. I had a Frickin EMT accuse me of faking because after I became aware again and told them what must have happened, they said "it had the word psycho in it, so doesn't that mean it's just all in your head?" I really wanted to throw a Dumbledore quote at him and be like of course it's happening in your head, but that doesn't make it not real

I developed PNES after struggling with domestic sexual abuse at the hands of my ex fiance. I went to the hospital 2 days ago cuz I think my mom said 11 or more seizures. I overheard just before one of my full blown attacks that a male nurse called my seizures fake and called my condition "penis" and after that attack occured seconds after he did that, I freaked TF out and then they gaslit me, called me a bully, and told me I'm free to leave at any time. I demanded my mother, they called me a danger to her, I went to call her, cuz they used Covid as an excuse to isolate me and make me vulnerable this she was in the waiting room being screened, then they unplugged the phone. I fucking had enough and smashed it and one more thing, and now I'm gonna be billed. Too fucking bad. Smashed hospital property is MY reimbersement for making fun of me, isolating me from the one person who they would listen to, then gaslighting me and treating ME like the bad guy. They can send the bill, and I'm gonna burn it live on facebook. Troy/Albany/Schenectady tricity area in upstate new York, Ellis hospital. Do NOT go their emergency room if your problem is PNES. Next time I am gonna have one, I'm gonna make sure the next time I call 911 for this, I'll either be in Troy or Albany, otherwise I don't want nobody close to me calling 911.

@@skullrose29 I'm so sorry that all of that happened to you, that's awful! It's happened to me a few weeks ago after I had an allergic reaction to the first dose of my covid-19. After my seizure that he didn't believe, he went to go talk to the doctor out of my ear shot and then I had to be in a wheelchair in the hallway for 8 hours and excruciating pain before they finally treated me. And I'm pretty sure that had something to do with how long it took in my treatment which I've never experienced at that hospital before.

The EMT was rude, but not wrong. Psychogenic nonepileptic seizures, were previously known as pseudoseizures (fake seizures). psychogenic means in the mind. This means the cause is psychological or emotional factors. The problem is the understanding of what it means when something is “in your head”. Some people (unfortunately some EMTs too) interpret that as meaning you’re making it up, lying. But that’s not the case. Your brain’s faking it, you are not consciously doing it. But, in the defense of EMTs, people DO fake seizures often (on purpose) and it’s impossible to tell if it’s a true psychiatric issue or just an act. It’s my opinion that medical professionals just need to be less jaded and give people the benefit of the doubt. Depression is “in your mind” but that doesn’t make it less real. It is, however, a psychological issue, like your seizures. It is not a physical illness like epilepsy. The treatment for your seizures is psychological treatment and medication rather than, say, phenobarbital

I really don't believe that you can talk a person out of having one of these seizures. In the case, of someone that I know, his seizures may be a result of taking years of epilepsy medication and having a vagus nerve and sleep apnea problem. His problem may also have a gut bacterial component.

    • @Luke-pd7xj

I don’t think you can talk someone out of seizing, but I do believe if one is feeling anxious, that they can calm themselves and prevent a seizure from happening.

I was born with epilepsy and cerebral palsy. I have a twin brother, i was born first. My brother was born with no problems. I take phenytoin for my epilepsy, as a child I was on phenabarbatone, then at 14 i was put on Epilim 500mg. Which caused me to gain lots of weight. I went to live in Canada for a few years where I was taken off eperlim & switched to phenytoin. Which I still take today. As a child I had grand mal seizures, which doctors said I would grow out of. Which I did, but I now have petit mal. It' feels weird when I have it, i can hear all thats going on around me, but ppl and any noise, sound much louder, plus it feels like I'm floating on water. Before the seizure I get the smell like burnt toast. I can have a seizure at any time, night or day. Unpredictable. I feel a little confused when I come round, which lasts for a couple of minutes, then I'm back with you again. Usually a cup of tea helps me recover. I read a lot of blogs where people who shared their testimonies kept mentioning Anti-seizure Herbal medication. I searched for a website I just followed the email address of Doctor Patrick that was shared on these testimonies; I got lucky when I got a reply from Dr. Patrick. I followed his instruction, used Herbal Medicine in less than 2 months, I was already cure because of the changes I was seeing. Within a period of 5 months, I was cured totally forever. I went back to my neurologist, I was checked up and marked epilepsy free.
