    One of the best tutorials I’ve seen…kudos! Also the Okuma Fly Rods at Trust Worthy are awesome and inexpensive. Was gonna buy 2 more this year (2024) but they had sold out by the 25th of July.

    I love this set up! Do you think this rig would work well with a 3-way swivel with the main line from the pole attaching at the top and a 2 pound cannon ball hanging from the bottom and your rig attached to the side of the swivel so the ball bounces off the bottom?

    started fishing this season, and got real tired of spending 4 bucks per lure just to lose two of them a day while learning to not be so terrible. Bought a kit to start making spinning lures from cabelas online, and it just showed up. Doesn't come with the wire forms. So i'm assuming that I can forego the wire form, and use fishing line like you state in the video. I have 8lb braided line, would that be sufficient? meanest things i'm grabbing around me have only been chain pickerel and bass

    You show braided line that's no longer available? What is the alternative? I checked several stores and the braid is too thin to get a bobbin threader in. Is there some special braid I'm not aware of? I tried pre maid braided loops for your technique but they just fell apart. Any suggestions.?

    Can't you do the same thing with a spinning outfit? What advantage do you have using a fly rod?

    • @DUKE_of_RAMBLE
      @DUKE_of_RAMBLE 3 месяца назад

      You can control the fish SO much better with a fly rod, thanks to the 9ft length! Which is also why they used a 9wt (aka 9#) rod, as it's beefier and a bit stiffer. (I don't recommend am 8wt) Personally I like 10wt rod, but 10wt are both not easy to find *and* their "Kenai Red" rod is only offered in 9wt. (it's a good rod though, and we have a few for our guests to use) However, the reels are, admittedly, less friendly, as the handle is directly on the spool... So if a fish takes off, that handle goes whipping around and will bash your knuckles if you aren't careful. So if you do get one, be sure to PALM THE REEL to slow it down, *_DO NOT_* grab for the line! The line will be moving out so fast that it *will* burn you from fiction on your skin! I can't speak to the quality of the Reddington reels or their drag, as I stick to Okuma reels. Regardless of brand, I suggest getting a "9/10" reel instead of an "8/9" _[the number corresponds to the rod "wt"]._ It's a much bigger reel, which not only balances the rod in your hand better, but makes it easier to palm and stop a fish if it decides to run.

      @@DUKE_of_RAMBLE 8:43 Kenai Red rod comes in 8 and 9wt. I’ve used the 8wt for 4+ years now and love it. Used to use high end Gloomis 9wts only to have them break. Fortunately Gloomis will replace them. No need for high end rods flipping for Reds.

    • @DUKE_of_RAMBLE
      @DUKE_of_RAMBLE 10 дней назад

      @@Randy_Savage_ohyeah The beauty of getting them at Trustworthy is they'll replace it if it breaks! They're the only place we shop for rods now, for at least 20 years (back when they used to be in a small building in the Safeway parking lot). 8wt is definitely fine for Reds, and even Silvers, but I still personally prefer a 10wt ☺️ I just like the control it affords me. Though I'll admit, I'm less in it for the sport these days, just wanting to hook them and get them in quickly. I did bring up an old Ugly Stick ice fishing rod, tossed a fly feel on it, and caught a Red that way... just to say I did (recorded it, if course lol). Granted, I WAS using the heavy line... The downside was the rod has a foam handle and the actual rod only goes a few inches inside it (not a "full tang").

    One trip a couple of years ago I would say, my group of fishing friends and I decided to stop there after eating at pizza boys, so I do believe the one in the video with a few others were all mad because we walked in just before closing. Now this would have never been an issue years ago when they were just around the corner from Godfather's pizza that is no longer there. Anyways, all these years, trustworthy is still the place to stop because they know how to keep things for fishing stocked and they sometimes have things that I cannot even find here in Alaska's biggest city, which a few places here seem to stock a small amount of things to never replenish stock once it is gone and goes on through the whole salmon season, so these places here should be ashamed that trustworthy outshines them in this dept, which I am sure trustworthy sees more people since a lot from all over visit to fish.

    Great demo, very professional. So many people I see in Alaska use zero ice and drag their fish in the dirt. I went on a charter one time for silvers. 36 fish in the boat, 75 degrees and sunny, zero ice in the above deck fish box. The meat was basically MUSH. Very disappointing.
