That opening of "Solid Gold" I think was their best ever. I think that the 1983-1984 season, of which Marilyn McCoo had been the solo host and that this clip is from, was during the peak of the 1980-1988 series. The following season seemed to lose ground with Rick Dees as host, then recovered with the return of Dionne Warwick as host for the 1985-1986 season. After that, the format changes that brought about "Solid Gold '87" and "Solid Gold In Concert" kind of helped end the series as the original format worked and worked well.

Do you have any information on its late beginning and why it was recently cancelled? The original American edition began in September 1981 with 3 co-hosts. Mary Hart had been added in 1982 after she had been part of a feature story on the program about her having been let go from a version of "P.M. Magazine" and it is through that she began her long period of association with "Entertainment Tonight" from 1982 through 2010, for a total of 28 years with the series. They have had others from her era who were longtimers, but the recent and current hosts and co-hosts are not as overall famous as the early hosts, co-hosts, and reporters as well.
