I remember my parents decided to try small Japanese cars and they were ready to buy a 1970 Corolla that looked much like this car, but saw pictures of the up-coming 71 Corolla and bought one of those instead. It was a flimsily cheaply made car with a rough uncomfortable ride, and was very noisy and quite weak power-wise. It was hard to take off on San Francisco hills - it would easily stall. The clutch on that car, like many other Japanese car clutches, would only last about 50 - 60,000 miles. American car's clutches would usually last about 100,000 miles with no trouble if you knew how to drive and didn't abuse it.
