Exploring Sapa and Reaching the Peak of Mount Fansipan Solo
Sapa Vietnam is the host to tallest peak in Indochina, Mount Fansipan. This makes Sapa a very popular tourist destination but, IS IT WORTH IT? In this video you will get my VERY HONEST opinion about both the town of Sapa, and Mount Fansipan alike. SPOILER ALERT, they are very different! One is a cheap knock off, and the other is a tasteful homage to the most popular religion in the area. HOT TAKE? Maybe, but its my honest opinion. Let me know in the comments if you agree, or disagree with my opinion. I'd love to hear what you think of Sapa and Mount Fansipan. I hope you enjoy this video, and find it valuable. Enjoy!

Solo on the Sky Walk Pass: Vietnam’s Most Thrilling Ride
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Come with me on a journey as I take on the incredible SKYWALK PASS. The SKYWALK PASS is the most epic part of the already intense HA GIANG LOOP. This dangerously narrow path is barely wide enough for a single tire in some points. The SKYWALK PASS was originally built to allow the local Hmong Tribe residents the ability to walk in between their crops and villages. However, it has now become a ra...

Great video! I was in Vietnam in 2020 and never made it to the Ha Gaing loop. I'm hading back in December 2024 and hope to tackle it solo. Your trip has helped confirm going solo. Awesome trip man. I am now subscribed
Thank you so much for the positive feedback! I hope you have a blast man! Be safe out there. ✌🏼
If you cross into Cambodia or Laos is it easy to get the bike back into Vietnam??
So I sold mine in Laos, so I didn’t personally cross back into Vietnam, but I’ve heard it’s no problem from other travelers.
How about 125cc dirt bike ?
Yeah I’m sure they have them, but not as common as the bigger ones. It would work though.
we crossed earlier this month and no issues! obtained the Laos visa from Da Nang Laos embassy prior to the run. no questions about the bike and very straight forward. the checkpoints now are quite obvious because they're fully developed. we also re-entered 2 days later and no issues! vietnam side was a bit harder to get into (there was a waiting line at the checkpoint) and we also had to put all of our luggage through x ray scanners (this didn't happen on the way out but only on the way back in). this guide has been so helpful so thank you so much!
Thank you son much for the update. I’m happy this is still possible! Enjoy your travels.
What type of passport did you have?
I crossed this boarder today. Still working! Nobody asked for motorbike-paperwork. You get the passportstamp aprox. 2 km after the boarder. Just stopp there and get it for free. Thsnks again!
Happy to hear it’s still possible! Enjoy it man!
Will you be able to take out the motorbike back to vietnam later on?
@user-nz8cg5kg3p You need to get the laos-visa ahead, no visa on arrival possible there! I got mine in hanoi for 1050000 dong. Got it in 4h, you need a passport-photo. I crossee with a vietnamese-plated-bike, no questions asked at all. They did not even asked for the bluecard. As far as i know you can easily enter vietnam again at any borderpoint with a vietnamese-plated-bike. There is a lady at the boarder-crossingpoint changing your dongs to laos-kip and selling simcards for 4$. Do that, you not gonna find a simcard for a few hours driving. Got 15gb and 15 min for 30days for 100k-kip.
Took your advice when entering the skywalk - sort of. Instead of going the way you did, I quickly rode right past 2 or 3 guys acting like security at the entry gate. I could hear them yelling no at me, as I zipped through with pillion and luggage on the ol workhorse. Happy to pay genuine entry fees anywhere but when it's just a tourist tax, it's disappointing being left feeling scammed
Happy to hear you were prepared for the tourist tax lol. Hope you enjoyed the skywalk!
I'm one with you regarding your aversion and sentiments for the exploitation of Hmong children. Yet funny food choice. Why have Indian Food in Vietnam? That alone made this video questionable🤣
I like Indian food lol. I like Vietnamese food as well, but as I was there for 3 months sometimes I like to switch it up 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching!
Sorry to confirm, does this mean there are two Laos offices you need to see? The one you showed on the video and then another one 3km down to get the entry stamp? We are crossing soon and want to be prepared, we will also let you know if any details have changed when we cross!
Yes, indeed there are 2 stops through this checkpoint and the second one is not as obvious as the first but it’s the crucial one to get the stamp.
amazing! i'll probably visit sapa soon - maybe i'll take your path :)
Enjoy it man! There’s a ton of good things about it, but imo not the best place in Vietnam. Still worth a visit though!
did you have to register your drone ?
I did not register my drone.
@@straywithgray24 I am considering as well to bring my drone to Thailand / Laos / Vietnam but I heard that it must be registered or you might end up in prison :o
@@lucas4019 I flew my drone in all of those countries without registering it. I had a DJI mini 2, so it was small and discreet. As discreet as a drone can be anyways lol. If you practice some common courtesy like not flying in cities, near temples or religious sites, you should be fine.
@@straywithgray24 I have the same drone and i am aware of where to not fly etc etc. I was wandering about the registration and if there are problems
I will do this same loop soon, is your Honda wave 110 or 125cc? seems like power enought for mountain roads?....it is my favorite bike in Asia too 😊
I had a 110cc Honda Wave. It was a BEAST!! I loved that bike, and it had plenty of power to make it through the mountains. Enjoy!
as a vietnamese i really want to go here. from my house to this cliff is just over 300km but going alone makes me quite tired, i tried once and i gave up after going 2/3 of the way. my ass can not handle that
Well you could always join a tour like Jasmine. You go with a group of other riders and you can even just ride on the back if you want. Sounds like a great way to see your beautiful country!
great video! i want to do the solo option but i dont have an international license, i hear there are police check points and depending on the person, they can either be bribed or they do their job completely right and take your bike away lol. what was your experience? do you have a license?
Hey thanks for your comment. I do have an international license myself. I can say that in my 3 months on a motorbike in Vietnam I wasn’t stopped, nor did I see a police checkpoint. When I was on the loop, I would come in and out of town either very early or very late. Maybe, it was before the checkpoints were setup for the day… I also carried a separate wallet with about 200k in case I would get stopped. Hope that helps, and enjoy it!
I'm surprised that the border crossing at Na Meo has gone to dark side. I crossed it twice earlier last year with no problems. Last December, I crossed the border at Bo Y-Ngoc Hi, which is the southernmost crossing point. Just remember to get a paper visa. I used the consulate in Da Nang early in the morning and made the border crossing that night. If you are going on to Cambodia, fill out the motorcycle import form before you get to the checkpoint to save on issues and bribes. It's online.
Was it easy to fill out the motorcyle import documentation? We applied using the website but then there was just a lot of errors and it wouldn't let us proceed..
This is super helpful thanks man
My pleasure! Enjoy the ride! 🤙🏼
Sorry to hear that Gray but honestly Vietnam is a great place for you to unwind and forget about everything so much to explore so much to see so much to try so many awesome Vietnamese food that would take a lifetime to try all of don’t give up your Moto bike travel to Vietnam stick with it
Yeah it is what it is I guess. These things happen and ultimately it was for the best. Vietnam was indeed, the perfect place for me to unwind and recenter myself after such a life change. Thank you for watching and I appreciate you reaching out in the comments. I hope you have a wonderful day! ✌🏼
Damn I’m so jealous of you guys you’re so lucky I wish I was there to be able to explore and do such a adventurous trip you guys are gonna have so much fun seeing and experiencing so many new things and new foods so envious of you guys hopefully you have a great time and I’m enjoying the blogs very much.🍻🍻👍👍
Thank you so much for the comment. Vietnam is a country I’ll never forget!
Seems like you are wearing quite a thick jacket, what month was this filmed in and what were the temperatures? I'm doing north Vietnam in October - want to do it before it gets cold in November - at least that's what I'm getting from the forecasts
Hey! Yeah I was wearing a super thick down jacket, insulated pants, and gloves the whole time in Ha Giang. I was there in the end of December, so well into the cold season. I would say leave your winter clothes at home for October. October is supposed to be the best month to see Ha Giang bcs of the rice fields turning gold. If you do end up needing warm clothes, Hanoi has plenty of super affordable and “decent” quality stuff. The whole outfit I described to you was $150 total. Hope this answers your question, and enjoy the ride! ✌🏼
@@straywithgray24 thanks!
Illegal. I hope u still in Vietnam to report to the police. That path is illegal to ride
I don’t believe that to be accurate as I saw many locals riding the very same trail. Thank you for watching regardless. ✌🏼
...⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bạn có nhiều lòng trắc ẩn cho vùng đất Sapa này 👍
It certainly wasn’t my favorite place in Vietnam, but I did enjoy my time at Mount Fancipan.
Amazing brother great video
Thanks man!
You make me so nervous and hold my breath to follow your journey. I have always whispered to myself and wished for the trip around the cliff to end quickly and safely for you. It was truly a trip of a lifetime with Ha Giang Loop, Vietnam.
Haha thank you so much for the concerns. I made it through unscathed!
This is very helpful! Do you have any idea if it's possible if you crossed back over into Vietnam from Laos with the same Vietnamese motorbike?
Thank you so much! I did not personally do it, as I sold the bike in Laos. However, I've heard that its not a problem as long as you have the proper documentation. Good luck and enjoy the ride!
It was incredible to witness in real life! The footage doesn’t even do it justice. I will definitely be back someday!
Another fabulous video Ryan which again captured the beauty of the landscape perfectly and brought back endless memories. Getting to Ban Gioc waterfalls was on my bucket list and I was reduced to tears when I got there , it was spectacular. I believe the mountain with the hole is called Angel Eye Mountain and not Heavens Gate which is another famous viewpoint on the Ha Giang loop in Quan Ba. Just in case any of your viewers are looking for it on Google.
Thank you so much for more kind words!
It looks amazing! I would like to go there next year, which time of the year you recommend? 😊
I went in December and had perfect visibility, but they say October is the best time to go bcs the rice fields are all golden color.
I like the idea “ RAVECAVE “ 😂 😂 😂
Ha thank you! It was fun to imagine it!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Thank you for visiting my country, VIETNAM. Enjoy and stay safe.
Thank you for your kind words.
I think u should buy a Honda winner or yamaha exciter instead of wave or blade, those motorbikes that have clutch are better than auto clutch one ( Sorry if my English was bad, im trying to improve it )
I’m not familiar with either of those, but I loved my wave. It was perfect for me.
Fam it here Gray! keep it up. i like your previous video about ha giang loop
Thank you so much!
Absolutely awesome footage. Who would not want to go there after seeing that!
I agree! It was such an amazing adventure and I hope it inspires others to visit.
Love love love your video. You have captured it perfectly. I did a 6 day tour taking inthe loop in November on a private tour, just me and my husband and our easy riders and it was the most incredible thing we have ever done. Your video brought back all our beautiful memories. My face literally ached from smiling so much when we were sat on the bikes. Every twist or turn in the road brought a new and spectacular view ❤️🇻🇳 (off to watch day 2)
Thank you so much for your kind words and I’m happy you got to enjoy it as much as I did!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Thank you for visiting my country, VIETNAM. Enjoy and stay safe.

Tuyệt vời tôi yêu những video của bạn
Thank you so much!
What landscape in Vietnam! Great video thanks for sharing
It’s an incredible country!
I agree completely. The Ha Giang Loop is a natural and untamed beauty. She’s wild and deserves to freedom to grow wild. May she never be tamed! ✌🏼
Absolutely mesmerizing, brother. I'm so happy you're able to experience this journey of self-discovery.. the footage you have shown is nothing short of phenomenal, but seeing it first hand is out of this world spectacular, something you will never ever forget.. I look forward to seeing where your adventures lead you.. thanks again, brother 🙏 😊
Thank you so much! I look forward to sharing all of my adventures from Vietnam!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. Thank you for visiting VIETNAM, my country. Enjoy your adventures and stay safe
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that and I greatly enjoyed your country 🇻🇳
shorten your life when you eat foods, fruits in VN..
Life is meant to be enjoyed with delicious foods!
@@straywithgray24There were some Vietnamese who betrayed their homeland during the war, and when the war ended, they left the country to live abroad. They harbor hatred toward Vietnam and constantly spread propaganda to defame the nation. Their descendants are influenced by these views and always think negatively about Vietnam. Therefore, if you want to know what Vietnam is truly like, you must experience it in person. The things they say are lies because they have not lived in Vietnam for decades after the war and only know about it through the news and media. Wishing you joy during your visit to Vietnam, and we hope you return.
Awesome video! The Ha Giang Loop is on my bucket list. I've never used a motorbike before so those tour groups do look appealing for a safer trip, but the solo trip does look much nicer.
I know I griped about them in the video, but honestly whatever gets you out there. Ha Giang Loop is a can’t miss!! One of the best experiences of my life. I hope you find the same.
If you don't want to commit to a full loop you could always do the Hai Van Pass. It's a day trip. I'd recommend not using the cheap motorbike companies because many of them will give you a terrible scooter and a $2 helmet. I recommend Tigit. I rented from them and did a trip HCM-Hanoi over three weeks. Headed back to do it all again in a few months.
@@CptFarlow Nice man! I personally thought the Hai Van Pass was overrated. It was too short and crowded. I mean don’t get me wrong it’s still amazing, but I think there are better options in Vietnam. I personally found the drive between Mui Ne and Quy Nhon to be the best COASTAL driving. ✌🏼
@straywithgray24 I still think the Ho Chi Minh road was the best driving in the entire country, but we hit the coast in Phan Rang and went north from there and boy it did not disappoint. We did not get to do the Hà Giang loop last time and I might skip it. I wouldn't get there until December at the earliest and it'll likely be chilly. I think instead I'll really take my time going from HCM-Hanoi. Great video, btw. I know what you mean about wanting to live there. I fell in love. The sector I work in is expected to expand there a lot in the next few years so I'm thinking about moving there to study the language either next year or the year after. Fingers crossed it all works out.
@@CptFarlowThat’s awesome man! I did the exact same thing, hit the coast in Phan Rang and went north from there. I agree that the Ho Chi Minh Trail is *some* of the best driving in the country. The only reason it’s not taking the top spot is it was the rain season when I was there so visibility was not great. I wouldn’t skip Ha Giang man. This video was shot in December. While it was definitely cold, it was nothing a nice heavy coat and insulated pants couldn’t handle. I picked both up plus some other cold weather gear in Hanoi for $150 at one of the North Face “outlets.” The visibility was PERFECT every single day, and not a drop of rain the whole time. Enjoy it, I know I’ll for sure be back myself as well!
Great video / story telling! Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words!
Amazing video, amazing content, amazing country. Very well done. Can’t wait to watch more travel videos created by you.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your kind words!
Amazing video. I love to see Vietnam through your eyes and it would be amazing to visit that country again!
Thank you. I love Vietnam and will definitely be back!
Thank you for loving Vietnam as much as I love there too.. I too have thought of living there, so magical places to experience and explore not to mention the food is absolutely phenomenal
Absolutely! The food is almost as incredible as the landscape!
Very cool
Thank you!
We want to go to Vietnam this year!! Really excited🤩this looks amazing! Thanks for some tips
Absolutely! Enjoy it, it’s an incredible country!
Thank you!!! Made it across yesterday/ May 29th
Awesome!! Happy to hear it’s still doable. Enjoy Laos!
By far the best video I've seen in the last couple of weeks researching about Vietnam, will definetly add all of these places to my itinerary when I'll visit in a couple of months
Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm new to this and this type of positive feedback is really nice to hear. Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment. Enjoy Vietnam!
